Report: Chiefs keep DE Charles Omenihu on $7M deal

The Kansas City Chiefs are re-signing defensive end Charles Omenihu to a one-year, $7 million deal, ESPN reported.

Omenihu, 27, tallied one sack in six games (one start) during the 2024 regular season and added one sack and one forced fumble during the Chiefs’ three-game postseason run.

He missed the first 11 games last season while rehabbing from a torn ACL suffered in the AFC Championship Game victory at Baltimore on Jan. 28, 2024.

During his first season with Kansas City in 2023, Omenihu missed the first six games while serving a suspension for violating the NFL’s personal conduct policy. He was arrested in January 2023 on suspicion of misdemeanor domestic assault.

A fifth-round draft pick by Houston in 2019, Omenihu has 19.5 sacks, 53 quarterback hits, 101 tackles and six forced fumbles in 78 games (12 starts) with the Texans (2019-21), San Francisco 49ers (2021-22) and Chiefs.

Chiefs activate RB Isiah Pacheco, DE Charles Omenihu from IR

The Kansas City Chiefs activated running back Isiah Pacheco and defensive end Charles Omenihu off injured reserve on Thursday ahead of Friday’s game against the Las Vegas Raiders.

Pacheco, Kansas City’s starting running back, sustained a broken fibula is his team’s victory over the Cincinnati Bengals in Week 2.

Omenihu, a defensive lineman, has yet to make his season debut. He has been recovering from a torn ACL sustained in last season’s AFC Championship Game victory against the Baltimore Ravens.

The Chiefs (10-1) also ruled out rookie kicker Spencer Shrader (right hamstring) and listed linebacker Cam Jones (illness) as questionable after he missed practice Tuesday and Wednesday but was a full participant Thursday.

Game-day elevations were kicker Matthew Wright and tight end Anthony Firkser.

Pacheco, 25, rushed for 135 yards with a touchdown and caught seven passes for 54 yards in two games before the injury. He has accumulated 2,328 yards from scrimmage with 15 touchdowns in 33 games (26 starts) since Kansas City drafted him in the seventh round in 2022.

Omenihu, 27, had seven sacks in 11 games (one start) in his first season with the Chiefs in 2023. He has 18.5 sacks in 72 career games (11 starts) with the Houston Texans (2019-21), San Francisco 49ers (2021-22) and Kansas City. He was a fifth-round pick by Houston in 2019.

Shrader, 25, did not practice this week. Formerly with the Indianapolis Colts and New York Jets this season, he has played in two games for the Chiefs as a replacement for injured starter Harrison Butker (knee), who is on IR, and was 3-for-3 on field-goal attempts and 6-for-6 on extra-point attempts.

49ers DL Charles Omenihu arrested after alleged domestic incident

San Francisco 49ers defensive lineman Charles Omenihu was arrested on suspicion of misdemeanor domestic violence after police were called to his San Jose, Calif., home.

Omenihu, 25, was booked at the Santa Clara County jail and released after posting bail. He also was served with a restraining order.

San Jose Police officers were summoned to Omenihu’s home on Monday afternoon for a report of domestic violence. A woman then told the responding officers that Omenihu is her boyfriend, and that he “pushed her to the ground during an argument.”

The woman complained of arm pain, however officers stated in the police release that they “did not observe any visible physical injuries.” She declined medical attention.

“We are aware of the matter involving Charles Omenihu and are in the process of gathering further information,” the 49ers said in a statement on Tuesday morning.

The second-seeded 49ers are preparing to play the top-seeded Eagles in Philadelphia in the NFC Championship Game on Sunday.

Omenihu has recorded career-best totals in tackles (20) and sacks (4.5) in 17 games (three starts) this season. He also had two sacks and a forced fumble in San Francisco’s 41-23 win over the Seattle Seahawks in the wild-card round.

Omenihu has totaled 67 tackles, 11.5 sacks and three forced fumbles in 61 career games (10 starts) with the Houston Texans and 49ers. He was selected by the Texans in the fifth round of the 2019 NFL Draft.

Report: Texans trade DE Charles Omenihu to 49ers

The Houston Texans traded defensive end Charlies Omenihu to the San Francisco 49ers for a future late-round pick, NFL Network reported Tuesday.

Omenihu had drawn interest from several teams, including the Kansas City Chiefs, who traded for Melvin Ingram III earlier Tuesday.

Omenihu, 24, recorded 11 tackles and three quarterback hits in six games (two starts) this season. He has seven sacks in 35 games (seven starts) for the Texans in two-plus seasons. The Texans selected him in the fifth round of the 2019 draft.
