WR Chris Hogan, two-time Super Bowl champ, retires

The New Orleans Saints placed wide receiver Chris Hogan on the reserve/retired list Saturday, one day shy of his 33rd birthday.

Hogan, who won two Super Bowl championships with the New England Patriots, left the NFL behind earlier this year to pursue a career in professional lacrosse.

He decided to return for a 10th season, signing with the Saints on Sept. 6 and appearing in each of the first five games. He caught four passes for 41 yards and a touchdown.

Undrafted in 2011, Hogan finishes his career with 220 receptions for 2,836 yards and 19 touchdowns with the Buffalo Bills (2012-15), Patriots (2016-18), Carolina Panthers (2019), New York Jets (2020) and Saints.

Playing in nine postseason games, Hogan added 34 catches for 542 yards and four touchdowns and won rings in Super Bowls LI and LIII. He caught six passes for 128 yards and a touchdown in New England’s 41-33 loss against the Philadelphia Eagles in Super Bowl LII.

Report: Saints re-sign Chris Hogan, Trevor Siemian

The New Orleans Saints re-signed wide receiver Chris Hogan and quarterback Trevor Siemian on Monday after releasing them last week, NFL Network reported.

Hogan, 33, signed with the Saints in July after it was announced that star wideout Michael Thomas underwent ankle surgery and was likely to miss the start of the season.

Hogan played in five games with the New York Jets last season, making 14 catches for 118 yards. He has 216 career catches for 2,795 yards and 18 touchdowns in 100 games (39 starts) with four teams.

Siemian, 29, was signed from the Tennessee Titans’ practice squad last November after an injury to Drew Brees. He stayed on the active roster for the next month before being released and re-signed to the practice squad.

He did not play in a game last season.

Siemian is 13-12 in 25 starts with the Denver Broncos (2015-17) and Jets (2019). He has completed 59.2 percent of his passes for 5,689 yards with 30 touchdowns and 24 interceptions.

Report: WR Chris Hogan to work out for Saints

Wide receiver Chris Hogan will work out for the New Orleans Saints on Monday, NFL Network reported.

The Saints are looking to address their receiving corps with three-time Pro Bowl selection Michael Thomas nursing an ankle injury that could sideline him weeks into the season.

Tre’Quan Smith, Marquez Callaway and Deonte Harris are behind Thomas on New Orleans’ wide receiver depth chart.

Hogan, 33, is a two-time Super Bowl champion and currently competes with the Premier Lacrosse League’s Whipsnakes Lacrosse Club. That season concludes on Aug. 15.

Hogan recorded 14 catches for 118 yards in five games last season with the New York Jets. He had 216 receptions for 2,795 yards and 18 touchdowns in 100 career games with the Buffalo Bills (2012-15), New England Patriots (2016-18), Carolina Panthers (2019) and Jets (2020).

Playing in nine postseason games, Hogan added 34 catches for 542 yards and four touchdowns.

Super Bowl winner Chris Hogan set for pro lacrosse debut

Chris Hogan, who won two Super Bowl championships with the New England Patriots, is expected to make his pro lacrosse debut Saturday.

In February, two months after the New York Jets released him, the wide receiver said he was switching sports.

The 33-year-old Hogan played lacrosse at Penn State and now is a member of the Cannons Lacrosse Club of the Premier Lacrosse League. The Cannons meet the Whipsnakes Lacrosse Club at noon Saturday in Atlanta.

Hogan, a midfielder, was inactive for the Cannons (0-1) in their first game last weekend, and tweeted earlier this week that he’d be active against the Whipsnakes.

“Turning dreams into reality, I am beyond excited that I have been given the opportunity to dress for my first @PremierLacrosse game,” he posted. “Can’t wait to take the field with my team and compete with the best lacrosse players in the world!”

The Cannons are led by Lyle Thompson, who is considered to be one of the top lacrosse players in the world.

At Penn State in 2009, Hogan was a first-team All-ECAC selection when he scored 34 points on 29 goals and five assists. He finished his career with 71 points on 57 goals and 14 assists.

When he graduated, he had one season of NCAA eligibility remaining and used it playing wide receiver and defensive back at Monmouth.

In the NFL, Hogan played with the Buffalo Bills (2012-15), Patriots (2016-18), Carolina Panthers (2019) and Jets. In 100 regular-season games (39 starts), he caught 216 passes for 2,795 yards and 18 touchdowns.

Playing in nine postseason games, he added 34 catches for 542 yards and four touchdowns.

Report: WR Chris Hogan declares for lacrosse draft

Wide receiver Chris Hogan, who was released by the New York Jets in December, declared for the Premier Lacrosse League Entry Draft, ESPN reported Saturday.

Hogan, 33, won two Super Bowl rings with the New England Patriots and spent nine seasons in the NFL. Before that, he played lacrosse at Penn State from 2007-10.

In 2009, he was a first-team All-ECAC selection when he scored 34 points on 29 goals and five assists. He finished his career with 71 points on 57 goals and 14 assists.

When he graduated from Penn State, he had one season of eligibility remaining and used it playing wide receiver and defensive back at Monmouth.

In the NFL, Hogan played with the Buffalo Bills (2012-15), Patriots (2016-18), Carolina Panthers (2019) and Jets. In 100 regular-season games (39 starts), he caught 216 passes for 2,795 yards and 18 touchdowns,

Playing in nine postseason games, he added 34 catches for 542 yards and four touchdowns.

In a 2019 interview with US Lacrosse, he said he’d like to compete in lacrosse again if the opportunity came up.

The three-round PLL Entry Draft is scheduled for March 25. Players who never have played in the league will be eligible, and the draft pool largely will be made up of players from Major League Lacrosse. The two leagues merged in December.

The PLL is made up of eight teams.

Jets’ top WR duo likely out Sunday vs. Colts

New York Jets coach Adam Gase is looking to “whoever’s got a pulse” to play wide receiver in Sunday’s game against the Indianapolis Colts.

Top wideout Jamison Crowder (hamstring) is expected to miss his second consecutive game, Breshad Perriman (ankle) didn’t practice Thursday and likely will miss at least two games, and Chris Hogan (ribs) was limited in practice, but is expected to play Sunday. Perriman was injured last week against the San Francisco 49ers.

Rookie wide receiver Denzel Mims is already on injured reserve with a hamstring injury.

“Whoever’s got a pulse right now, we’re ready to go,” Gase said Thursday.

Hogan, Braxton Berrios and Josh Malone are expected to be the starting WRs Sunday. Lawrence Cager could get a call-up from the practice squad.

Le’Veon Bell is on injured reserve, with veteran Frank Gore getting elevated at running back.

Further, right tackle George Fant is in the concussion protocol after a collision in Wednesday’s practice and center Connor McGovern (hamstring) has not practiced. Tackle Mekhi Becton (shoulder) has been limited. All three starters are questionable for the game.

As it is, the Jets enter Week 3 with the second-worst passing offense in the NFL at 394 total passing yards after two games.

Report: Jets agree to terms with WR Hogan

The New York Jets reportedly agreed to terms with Chris Hogan, completing the wide receiver’s tour of employment with each team in the AFC East.

The NFL Network on Sunday was the first to report the news on Hogan, who won two Super Bowl titles during his three seasons with the New England Patriots (2016-18).

Hogan spent time on the Miami Dolphins’ practice squad in 2011-12 — but did not play in a game — before suiting up with the Buffalo Bills from 2012-15. He had eight catches for 67 yards in seven games (one start) with the Carolina Panthers last season.

Hogan has collected 202 receptions for 2,677 yards and 18 touchdowns in 95 career games.

The 32-year-old New Jersey native could see playing time with the Jets, considering the team is young and thin at wide receiver.

Rookie Denzel Mims missed the first two days of training camp with a hamstring injury while fellow wideout Vyncint Smith sat out Sunday with an undisclosed injury.

The Jets also saw top receiver Robby Anderson depart in free agency, while the team released the injured Quincy Enunwa and didn’t re-sign Demaryius Thomas.
