Bills sign CB Cameron Dantzler to one-year contract

The Bills signed Cameron Dantzler to a one-year deal Wednesday and cut fellow cornerback Kyler McMichael.

Dantzler, 24, was a third-round pick by Minnesota in 2020 and played in 35 games (26 starts) for the Vikings.

The Washington Commanders claimed him off waivers from the Vikings in March but released him last week.

Dantzler tallied 149 tackles, 17 passes defensed, three interceptions and three forced fumbles for Minnesota.

McMichael, 23, was signed to Buffalo’s practice squad in September 2022 and signed a reserve/future contract in January.

Undrafted out of North Carolina, McMichael has not appeared in an NFL game.

Vikings release Elflein, remove Cutting from COVID-19 list

The Minnesota Vikings released offensive lineman Pat Elflein on Saturday, one day after activating him off injured reserve.

Elflein sustained a thumb injury in practice during Week 2 and was placed on IR on Sept. 17. He started at right guard in the season-opening loss to the Green Bay Packers.

Minnesota also activated long snapper Austin Cutting from the reserve/COVID-19 list. Cutting was placed on the list on Tuesday and is now expected to play in Monday night’s road game against the Chicago Bears.

Cutting, 24, in his second season as the Vikings’ long snapper.

Elflein, 26, started 42 of 43 games played over the previous three seasons — the first two at center and 2019 at left guard.

Second-round pick Ezra Cleveland, who played left tackle in college at Boise State, will be counted on at right guard. He will be making his fourth straight start at the position.

“We just felt like we had some better options,” Minnesota coach Mike Zimmer said of the transaction. “… These guys come in and compete and work real hard. There are times when you have to make those decisions.”

Minnesota also ruled out tight end Irv Smith Jr. (groin) for Monday. Cornerback Cameron Dantzler (concussion) is questionable.

Zimmer said Pro Bowl linebacker Eric Kendricks is the team’s backup long snapper.

Vikings rule out top two CBs Hughes, Dantzler vs. Titans

The Minnesota Vikings will be without starting cornerbacks Mike Hughes and rookie Cameron Dantzler against the Tennessee Titans on Sunday, the team announced Friday.

Further, CB Kris Boyd (hamstring) is listed as questionable on the final injury report.

Dantzler missed Week 2 after injuring a rib against the Green Bay Packers in Week 1. Hughes, out with an injured neck, had his 2019 season cut short with a cracked vertebra.

The Vikings will turn to Holton Hill, rookie Jeff Gladney and Boyd, if he’s cleared to play. The Vikings also have Mark Fields and Harrison Hand.

“We’ve got a lot of corners on this team,” Vikings coach Mike Zimmer said Friday. “That’s part of the plan all along, to have some extra guys. We’ll be all right.”

The injuries come amid the loss of linebacker Anthony Barr for the season. Barr (torn pec) underwent surgery this week. The Vikings signed former Denver Broncos LB Todd Davis earlier this week but how much he plays Sunday is unclear.

The Vikings selected Dantzler in the third round of this year’s draft. He registered three tackles in Week 1.

Hughes registered 11 tackles in the first two games of the season. The third-year pro has two career interceptions in 22 games (seven starts).
