Eagles, CB James Bradberry reach 1-year deal

Pro Bowl cornerback James Bradberry agreed to terms on a one-year contract with the Philadelphia Eagles on Wednesday.

The Eagles did not divulge financial terms of the deal, however multiple media outlets reported it was worth $10 million.

Bradberry was released in a cost-cutting move by the NFC East rival New York Giants on May 9. The Giants were unable to find a trade partner for Bradberry, who signed a three-year, $43.5 million deal with the Giants in March 2020.

Bradberry, 28, likely will be paired opposite four-time Pro Bowl selection Darius Slay in Philadelphia.

Bradberry recorded a career-high four interceptions in 17 games (16 starts) in 2021 for the Giants. He had also had 17 passes defensed to go with two fumble recoveries.

He made the Pro Bowl after the 2020 season.

Bradberry has 15 career interceptions and 82 passes defensed in 92 career games (91 starts) for the Carolina Panthers (2016-19) and Giants. The Panthers selected Bradberry in the second round of the 2016 NFL Draft.

Eagles CB Slay (concussion) ruled out vs. Cardinals

Philadelphia Eagles cornerback Darius Slay has been ruled out of Sunday’s game against the Arizona Cardinals with a concussion, the team announced.

Slay, who was listed as questionable on Friday’s injury report, will miss his first game of the season because of the concussion he sustained in Philadelphia’s 24-21 victory over the New Orleans Saints last week. Per the Eagles, Slay joined reserve Grayland Arnold (hamstring) and running back Jason Huntley (illness) in not traveling with the team to Glendale, Ariz.

A three-time Pro Bowl selection, Slay has recorded 55 tackles in 13 games this season. He has collected 402 tackles, 19 interceptions and two fumble recoveries in 116 career games with the Detroit Lions and Eagles.

The absence of the 29-year-old Slay is a major loss for the Eagles (4-8-1), who are without starting defensive backs Avonte Maddox and Rodney McLeod. The latter two players have knee injuries and were placed on season-ending injured reserve.

“It’s certainly not an ideal situation. But injuries happen in the NFL. Particularly at defensive back. Not only are there muscle pulls but they are generally smaller guys that take a lot of contact and things like that. So we’ve seen that firsthand,” Eagles defensive coordinator Jim Schwartz said earlier in the week.

“I think the biggest thing is you have to balance your game plan versus the skill set of the guys that you have. Every player has strengths. Every player has weaknesses. Whether you’re up from the practice squad or you’re a six-time Pro Bowl player, every player has strengths and weaknesses, and you have to balance what you need to do in the game plan versus what your matchups are and what the skill set of the players are.”

On Saturday, the Eagles elevated safety Blake Countess and cornerback Jameson Houston from the practice squad to the active roster.

Eagles CB Slay (concussion) cleared to play Sunday

Philadelphia Eagles cornerback Darius Slay will be available for Sunday’s game against the Baltimore Ravens after clearing the concussion protocol, coach Doug Pederson said Friday.

Slay left Sunday’s loss to the Pittsburgh Steelers with a head injury and was placed in the protocol on Monday.

The three-time Pro Bowl selection has 27 tackles, three passes defensed and two tackles for loss in five starts this season, his first with the Eagles.

Slay, 29, started 94 of his 103 games with the Detroit Lions from 2013-19, registering 19 interceptions and 104 passes defensed. He was a second-round pick in the 2013 NFL Draft.

Eagles CB Slay limited at practice; T Johnson sits again

The injury-riddled Philadelphia Eagles received some good news Thursday, as three-time Pro Bowl cornerback Darius Slay returned to practice amid his recovery from a concussion suffered Sunday.

Slay was sidelined during the Eagles’ 38-29 road loss against the Pittsburgh Steelers as he was able to walk off the field on his own power late in the defeat.

After sitting out practice until Wednesday, Slay was listed as a limited participant a day later with the team already missing opposite cornerback starter Avonte Maddox (ankle), who practiced in a limited capacity Wednesday and Thursday.

Fellow three-time Pro Bowl player Lane Johnson has not practiced all week after missing Thursday’s session as he continues to evaluate second-opinion options for the tackle’s surgically repaired ankle. The injury has given him discomfort all season and forced him to sit out the season-opening loss at Washington.

Johnson was carted off the field during the Steelers loss Sunday and played 39 offensive snaps, a recurring issue for an offensive line that has seen only one starter (center Jason Kelce) avoid prominent injury this season.

Guard/tackle Matt Pryor also was absent from the field with what the team termed an illness.

The Eagles’ other problem position health-wise this season has been wide receiver, but the team could get either Alshon Jeffery (foot) or DeSean Jackson (hamstring) back in the lineup as soon as this week. Both were limited in practice activity again Thursday. Jeffery has not played since Week 14 last December because of a Lisfranc injury, while Jackson’s nagging hamstring problems have caused him to miss 15 of the team’s 21 games since the start of last season.

Also limited on Thursday was reserve tight end Richard Rodgers (neck), while starting linebacker Duke Riley and safety Marcus Epps both sat out workouts while nursing rib injuries.

Eagles’ Slay in protocol, Johnson to get second opinion on ankle

Philadelphia cornerback Darius Slay is in concussion protocol and right tackle Lane Johnson is seeking a second opinion on his surgically repaired ankle, Eagles coach Doug Pederson said Monday.

Both players left Sunday’s loss to the Pittsburgh Steelers – Johnson had to be carted off the field. Slay walked off on his own power late in the fourth quarter.

Johnson, 30, underwent surgery on the ankle in August and missed some action last week in a win over the San Francisco 49ers with a cyst in the ankle that needed to be drained after the game.

Johnson left Sunday’s game in Pittsburgh after 39 offensive snaps and did not return.

“In the case of Lane Johnson, I am waiting,” Pederson said Monday. “Medically, we’re waiting on the second opinion. There’s some reports still coming in on Lane so I don’t have any update yet on him.”

Rookie Jake Driscoll replaced Johnson on Sunday and would be in line to start if Johnson is out. Driscoll also started Week 1 in place of the Pro Bowl right tackle.

Pederson said linebacker Duke Riley, who left Sunday’s game against the Steelers, is fine.

Pederson is also “hopeful” that wide receivers DeSean Jackson (hamstring) and Alshon Jeffery (foot) are able to practice this week. Jeffery has yet to play this season while Jackson has missed the past two games.
