Giants WR Darius Slayton (core surgery) to miss offseason program

Giants wide receiver Darius Slayton underwent core muscle surgery after the 2025 season and won’t participate in the majority of the offseason program.

The Giants expect him to be fully cleared for training camp and could still have interest in signing veteran free agent Odell Beckham Jr., the New York Post reported Thursday.

Slayton and fellow wide receiver Malik Nabers (knee) are both recovering from surgeries. Nabers went down with a season-ending right knee injury. He had surgery to repair his torn ACL in a September win over the Los Angeles Chargers.

Free agent Wan’Dale Robinson signed with the Tennessee Titans. He led the Giants with 92 receptions for 1,014 yards, more than double the next closest wide receiver’s production (Slayton) in 2025 with Nabers on injured reserve most of the season.

The Giants drafted jumbo wide receiver Malachi Fields (6-foor-4, 200 pounds) in the third round of the 2026 draft, signed free agents Darnell Mooney (Falcons, Bears) and Calvin Austin III (Steelers) and currently list 13 wide receivers on their 90-man offseason roster.

Slayton, 29, had 37 receptions for 538 yards and one touchdown in 2025. He was a fifth-round pick of the Giants in 2019 and has 296 career receptions for 4,435 yards with 22 touchdowns.

Giants QB Jaxson Dart out vs. Packers; Jameis Winston to start

New York Giants rookie quarterback Jaxson Dart has been ruled out for Sunday’s game against the visiting Green Bay Packers, the team announced Friday.

Dart sustained a concussion during New York’s 24-20 setback to the Chicago Bears.

Although Russell Wilson replaced Dart in that game, veteran Jameis Winston was announced on Wednesday to be Giants’ starter versus Green Bay (5-3-1) if the rookie was unable to play.

Also on Friday, the Giants (2-8) ruled out wide receiver Darius Slayton (hamstring) and linebacker Kayvon Thibodeaux (shoulder). Neither player participated in practice throughout the week.

New York listed safety Tyler Nubin (neck) and defensive lineman Rakeem Nunez-Roches (toe) as doubtful after both players failed to participate in practice this week. Linebacker Bobby Okereke (shoulder) was limited in practice Friday and is questionable to face the Packers.

Winston, 31, inked a two-year, $8 million deal with New York in the offseason. He has yet to see action this season.

Drafted No. 1 overall in 2015 by Tampa Bay, Winston made the Pro Bowl as a rookie and topped the NFL with 5,109 passing yards for the Buccaneers in 2019.

Winston is 36-51 as a starter, completing 61.2% of his passes for 24,225 yards, 154 touchdowns and 111 interceptions in 105 games (87 starts) with the Bucs (2015-19), New Orleans Saints (2020-23) and Cleveland Browns (2024).

His last appearance came in Cleveland’s 21-7 loss to the Kansas City Chiefs in Week 15 of last season.

Wilson, who turns 37 on Nov. 29, replaced Dart in the second half against the Bears and completed 3 of 7 passes for 45 yards while being sacked twice.

Slayton, 28, has 23 catches for 343 yards in eight games this season.

Giants WR Darius Slayton downgraded to out vs. Broncos

New York Giants wide receiver Darius Slayton and defensive lineman Chauncey Golston were downgraded from doubtful to out for Sunday’s game against the host Denver Broncos.

Also on Saturday, the Giants announced that offensive line coach Carmen Bricillo will not travel for the game. ESPN reported that Bricillo is dealing with a personal matter.

Assistant offensive line coach James Ferentz will handle the responsibilities of Bricillo on Sunday, the team announced.

Slayton, 28, sat out New York’s 34-17 victory over the Philadelphia Eagles on Oct. 9 with a hamstring injury and did not participate in practice this week.

He has 12 catches for 166 yards in five games this season for the Giants (2-4).

Slayton and Golston, who is nursing a neck injury, join linebacker Demetrius Flannigan-Fowles (hamstring), linebacker Swayze Bozeman (ankle) and center John Michael Schmitz (concussion) in being ruled out versus the Broncos (4-2). All five players will not make the trip to Denver.

WR Slayton (foot), DT Lawrence (knee) limited for Giants

New York Giants wide receiver Darius Slayton and starting defensive tackle Dexter Lawrence were limited in practice Wednesday.

Slayton, coming off a monster game, is dealing with a foot injury. Lawrence has a knee injury.

Slayton had eight catches for 129 yards and had a touchdown reception nullified by an offensive pass interference call as the Giants fell to 0-5 with a 37-34 loss the Dallas Cowboys on Sunday.

Slayton has two touchdown catches and leads the Giants in receptions (23) and yards (365) while Sterling Shepard continues to sit with a toe injury. Shepard has been on short-term injured reserve and the team did not designate him for return Wednesday.

Lawrence had four tackles last week vs. the Cowboys, giving him 23 in his five games (four starts) this season. He also has a sack to go with three quarterback hits and two tackles for loss.

Giants linebacker Kyler Fackrell (ankle) and safety Jabrill Peppers (ankle) were also limited on Wednesday.

New York hosts the Washington Football Team (1-4) on Sunday.
