Chiefs S Deon Bush tears Achilles, out for season

Kansas City Chiefs safety Deon Bush is expected to miss the upcoming season after sustaining a torn left Achilles during the team’s preseason game against the Arizona Cardinals on Saturday.

Bush suffered a non-contact injury while attempting to shift directions on the field during the second quarter of Kansas City’s 20-17 loss to Arizona.

“Bush is an Achilles, yes,” Chiefs head coach Andy Reid told reporters. “So he’s got to have surgery on it; he’ll get double checked here. But, I mean, I think we’re looking at surgery there. It’s too bad because he’s really been playing well. He’s a great kid, too.”

Bush, 31, played in 95 games during his first seven seasons with the Chicago Bears and Kansas City. He has been limited to eight games over his past two seasons with the Chiefs.

A two-time Super Bowl champion, Bush has totaled 110 tackles and three interceptions since being selected by the Bears in the fourth round of the 2016 NFL Draft.

Bears rule out CB Johnson (shoulder), S Bush (foot)

The Chicago Bears ruled out a pair of key defensive backs for Sunday’s road game against the Minnesota Vikings.

Starting cornerback Jaylon Johnson was downgraded because of a shoulder injury, while safety Deon Bush was ruled out because of a foot injury. Johnson has started all 13 games during his rookie season, while Bush has appeared in 10 games in a reserve role.

Chicago promoted defensive back Xavier Crawford from the practice squad to help fill the void. The Bears also restored linebacker Manti Te’o from the Reserve/COVID-19 list to the team’s practice squad.

The Bears (6-7) and Vikings (6-7) each are fighting for a chance to climb back to .500.

Bears reserve S Bush goes on reserve/COVID list

Chicago Bears safety Deon Bush has been moved to the team’s reserve/COVID-19 list and won’t be available for Sunday night’s game against the Tennessee Titans in Nashville, Tenn.

ESPN reported Saturday that Bush, who has appeared in six of the eight Bears’ games this season, all as a reserve, has not tested positive for the coronavirus. However, he had close contact with someone who is being kept away from the team and facility.

Bush is under quarantine away from the team in Nashville, ESPN reported.

Bush, a fourth-round pick of the Bears in 2016, has played in 60 games (eight starts) over five seasons. He has one interception and four tackles this season.
