Seahawks WR DK Metcalf (knee) returns to practice

Seattle Seahawks wide receiver DK Metcalf, who hadn’t practiced since spraining his right knee in an Oct. 20 game against the Atlanta Falcons, was a full participant on Wednesday.

Metcalf hopes to return to action when Seattle (4-5) visits the San Francisco 49ers (5-4) on Sunday. He sustained a Grade 1 MCL sprain in the Seahawks’ 34-14 road victory against the Falcons. Seattle then lost home games to the Buffalo Bills and the Los Angeles Rams before a bye in Week 10.

Metcalf has 35 receptions on 61 targets for 568 yards and three touchdowns in seven games (six starts) this season.

Seattle selected him in the second round of the 2019 NFL Draft out of Ole Miss. A two-time Pro Bowl selection, Metcalf has 407 receptions for 5,900 yards and 46 touchdowns in 89 regular-season games (87 starts). He also has 26 receptions for 451 yards and five TDs in four playoff games, all starts.

The Seahawks activated right tackle Abraham Lucas off the physically unable to perform list on Wednesday, at the end of his 21-day practice window. If Lucas had not been activated, he would have stayed on the PUP list for the remainder of the season.

Lucas, 26, was a third-round pick of the Seahawks in 2022. He started all 22 games he played in 2022 and 2023 but was limited to six games last season because of a knee injury that required surgery, putting him on the PUP list.

To make room for Lucas on the 53-man roster, Seattle placed offensive tackle George Fant on injured reserve that will require he miss at least four games. Fant, 32, played two games, both starts, this season before leaving each contest with a knee injury.

Seahawks coach Mike Macdonald said he was uncertain if Fant would be able to play again this season.

Seahawks WR DK Metcalf, TE Noah Fant ruled out vs. Rams

Seattle Seahawks wide receiver DK Metcalf is out against the visiting Los Angeles Rams Sunday.

Metcalf, who sustained a Grade 1 strain of the medial collateral ligament in his knee in the Seahawks’ 34-14 victory over the Atlanta Falcons in Week 7, will miss his second straight game.

Seattle coach Mike Macdonald told reporters Friday that there was no particular setback this week.

“He just needs more time,” Macdonald said. “It’s nothing he could have done differently, we just need more time for him, so that’s what’s best for him and the team.”

Macdonald did not commit to a set return date when asked whether Metcalf will be ready after the Seahawks’ Week 10 bye.

“With these things, we said week-to-week from the get go. I think that’s where we’re at at this point, so I think it’s fair to say we’re taking it week by week at this point. I think that’s a fair assessment.”

Metcalf, 26, leads Seattle in receiving yards (568) and receiving touchdowns (three) to go along with his 35 catches in seven games this season.

The Seahawks (4-4) will also face the NFC West rival Rams (3-4) without tight end Noah Fant, who injured his groin in practice Wednesday. Nose tackle Cameron Young will miss his third straight game with a knee injury.

Macdonald said Fant will miss “some time” and may not be ready out of the bye week, but the team does not think he will land on injured reserve.

Meanwhile, Young has played in just one game this season, when he logged three snaps in a Week 6 win against San Francisco. He spent the first five weeks on the physically unable to perform list with an undisclosed injury.

Seahawks WR DK Metcalf (knee) doubtful vs. Bills

Seattle Seahawks wide receiver DK Metcalf is listed as doubtful to play against the visiting Buffalo Bills on Sunday.

Metcalf sustained a Grade 1 strain of the medial collateral ligament in his knee last Sunday in the Seahawks’ 34-14 victory over the Atlanta Falcons.

Seattle head coach Mike Macdonald told reporters on Friday that there’s a chance Metcalf can play against Buffalo despite failing to participate in practice all week.

“It’s doubtful right now for the game,” Macdonald said. “It’s not out of the question, 100 percent yet so we will take it to Sunday, and we’ll go from there.”

Metcalf, 26, leads the Seahawks in receiving yards (568) and receiving touchdowns (three) to go along with 35 catches in seven games this season. Jaxon Smith-Njigba, who has a club-best 37 receptions, and Tyler Lockett will be looked upon to pick up the slack should Metcalf sit out for Seattle (4-3).

Running back Kenneth Walker III does not carry an injury designation after returning to a full practice on Friday. He had been nursing an illness.

Nose tackle Cameron Young (knee) is doubtful to face Buffalo (5-2), while cornerbacks Tre Brown (ankle) and Nehemiah Pritchett (ankle) and defensive end Mike Morris (ankle) are questionable.

“Tre practiced today and is trending positively for the game,” Macdonald said. “Anything can happen between now and then but (we’re) optimistic with Tre.”

Report: Seahawks WR DK Metcalf has sprained MCL

Seattle Seahawks wide receiver DK Metcalf is week-to-week with a Grade 1 MCL sprain, ESPN reported Monday.

Metcalf departed Sunday’s 34-14 win over the Atlanta Falcons with a knee injury in the fourth quarter after catching four passes for 99 yards and a touchdown.

He was seen briefly attempting to jog on the Seattle sideline but later was taken by cart to the locker room.

After the game, coach Mike Macdonald said Metcalf “banged his knee a little bit” and “it doesn’t look too bad.”

Metcalf, 26, has 35 receptions on 61 targets for 568 yards and three touchdowns in seven games (six starts) this year for the Seahawks (4-3).

The two-time Pro Bowl selection has 407 catches for 5,900 yards and 46 scores in 89 games (87 starts) since being drafted in the second round by Seattle in 2019 out of Mississippi.

Seahawks WR DK Metcalf hurts knee, but ‘doesn’t look too bad’

Seattle Seahawks fans got a scare when star wide receiver DK Metcalf was carted to the locker room late in Sunday’s 34-14 win over the Atlanta Falcons with a knee injury.

However, coach Mike Macdonald said in his postgame press conference that Metcalf merely “banged his knee a little bit” and “it doesn’t look too bad” to Seahawks trainers.

Metcalf had four catches for 99 yards and a touchdown before leaving the game during the second half. He was seen attempting to jog on the Seattle sideline but later was taken by cart to the locker room.

The two-time Pro Bowler has 35 receptions for 568 yards and three touchdowns in seven games (six starts) this year for the Seahawks (4-3).

Seahawks’ DK Metcalf to miss first game of career, out vs. Cards

Seattle Seahawks wide receiver DK Metcalf will miss his first career NFL game on Sunday after being listed as inactive against the visiting Arizona Cardinals.

Metcalf had been listed as questionable with hip and rib injuries.

Metcalf, 25, has 22 catches for 337 yards and two touchdowns in five games this season.

In addition to Metcalf, the Seahawks (3-2) also ruled linebacker Devin Bush, cornerback Artie Burns, running back Zach Charbonnet, guard Phil Haynes, center Evan Brown and tackle Raiqwon O’Neal as inactive.

For the Cardinals (1-5), the following players were listed as inactive: wide receiver Zach Pascal, cornerback Antonio Hamilton, linebacker Jesse Luketa, safeties Qwuantrezz Knight and Jalen Thompson and offensive linemen Elijah Wilkinson and Carter O’Donnell.

Seahawks’ DK Metcalf falls short in U.S. Track sprint

Seattle Seahawks wide receiver DK Metcalf showed his attempt to qualify for next month’s U.S. Olympic Trials was no joke, but it still wasn’t good enough.

At the USA Track and Field Golden Games and Distance Open on Sunday, Metcalf finished in 10.37 seconds in the 100 meters in his semifinal heat. The time was the slowest of the nine-man race but better than two of the 17 overall runners in the event at Walnut, Calif.

Metcalf gained viral fame after he chased down Arizona Cardinals safety Budda Baker last October in a nationally televised NFL game.

He had run 4.33 at the 2019 NFL Combine in the 40-yard dash.

John Ross holds the combine record at 4.22.

To automatically qualify for the Olympic Trials, Metcalf would have needed a 10.05 or faster with a legal tailwind of no more than two meters per second. The qualifying group of 32 for the Trials include those who meet that standard along with the next fastest men who failed to surpass the automatic qualifying mark.

In 2019, it took a qualifying time of 10.26 seconds.

Seahawks’ DK Metcalf set for USA Track event

Seattle Seahawks wide receiver DK Metcalf, who is certainly fast by NFL standards, is set to run in the USA Track and Field Golden Games and Distance Open on Sunday in Walnut, Calif.

Metcalf famously chased down Arizona Cardinals safety Budda Baker in a nationally televised game in 2020, and on Monday referenced the track meet in a post to his 278,000 Twitter followers.

The USATF site for the event has Metcalf’s name among the runners entered in the 100-meter dash.

Metcalf’s agent Adam Schmenk told Yahoo Sports that a joking tweet sent by the USA Track and Field account after the Baker play last season sparked an interest in his client to test himself in hopes of one day competing in the Olympics.

“DK’s agent told us that he really wants to try to make the Olympics and asked what steps he needs to take,” Schmenk said. “We walked him through what the auto qualifying time was that he would have to run in a sanctioned USATF event and told him that we would help him find a lane if and when he wanted to do this.”

Metcalf ran a 4.33-second 40-yard dash at the 2019 scouting combine and ran track in high school, competing in the hurdles and long jump. He caught 83 passes for 1,303 yards and 10 touchdowns in making the Pro Bowl last season.
