49ers RB Elijah Mitchell inactive vs. Eagles

San Francisco 49ers running back Elijah Mitchell has been ruled inactive for Sunday’s NFC Championship Game against the Eagles in Philadelphia.

Mitchell (groin) was listed as questionable for the game after failing to participate in practice throughout the week.

Mitchell, 24, was limited to five regular-season games due to two knee injuries — one to each knee — and had 279 yards and two touchdowns. He had a touchdown catch in San Francisco’s 41-23 wild-card win over the Seattle Seahawks on Jan. 14 and 14 carries for 51 yards in a 19-12 victory over the Dallas Cowboys last Sunday.

While Mitchell is inactive, star running back Christian McCaffrey and hybrid wide receiver Deebo Samuel will suit up for Sunday’s game.

McCaffrey (calf) did not participate and Samuel (ankle) was limited in practice on Wednesday and Thursday due to their respective injuries before turning in a full session on Friday.

In addition to Mitchell, the 49ers listed the following players as inactive: quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo, cornerback Ambry Thomas, offensive lineman Nick Zakelj, defensive end Drake Jackson, tight end Ross Dwelley and running back Tyrion Davis-Price.

The Eagles listed quarterback Ian Book, cornerback Josiah Scott, running back Trey Sermon, safety Anthony Harris, linebacker Kyron Johnson and offensive lineman Josh Sills as inactive.

49ers tab RB Elijah Mitchell for return to practice

The San Francisco 49ers designated three players for return from injured reserve Monday, including second-year running back Elijah Mitchell.

Also returning to practice were linebacker Azeez Al-Shaair and offensive lineman Colton McKivitz.

Mitchell was injured in the first game of the season, missing two months with a sprained right MCL in his knee. Mitchell was hurt after being tackled by Bears safety Eddie Jackson, whose shoulder collided with Mitchell’s knee. He finished the game with six carries for 41 yards.

Mitchell was nearly a 1,000-yard rusher for the Niners as a rookie, leading the team with 963. Since landing on IR, the team has traded for Christian McCaffrey and traded away Jeff Wilson.

Al-Shaair also landed on IR with a knee sprain after three games. Al-Shaair had 11 tackles in three games (two starts). He has 166 tackles in 47 career games (24 starts), all with the Niners. He’s not expected to return this week.

McKivitz played in four games (one start) before landing on IR, also with a knee sprain.

The team has 21 days to add the players to the active roster.

The team also signed WR Tajae Sharpe to the team’s practice squad and released TE Troy Fumagalli.

The Niners (4-4) are coming off their bye and preparing to host the Los Angeles Chargers (5-3) in Week 10.

49ers put Elijah Mitchell on IR, sign Marlon Mack

The San Francisco 49ers officially placed running back Elijah Mitchell on injured reserve Tuesday and signed Marlon Mack to their practice squad.

Mitchell will miss two months with a sprained right MCL he sustained during the team’s Week 1 loss to the Chicago Bears on Sunday. He won’t require surgery.

Mitchell left Sunday’s 19-10 loss after being tackled by Bears safety Eddie Jackson, whose shoulder collided with Mitchell’s right knee. He finished the game with six carries for 41 yards.

Jeff Wilson Jr. is now atop the 49ers’ depth chart at running back. Jordan Mason and rookie Tyrion Davis-Price are the backups. Wilson rushed nine times for 22 yards in Week 1 and caught two passes for eight yards.

Mack, 26, was released by the Houston Texans last week.

Mack ran for a career-best 1,091 yards with eight touchdowns in 2019 with the Indianapolis Colts. He has rushed for 2,484 career yards and 20 touchdowns in 47 games (23 starts) for the Colts. He also has 57 career receptions for 448 yards and two scores.

The 49ers on Tuesday also promoted safety Tashaun Gipson Sr. from the practice squad to the active roster.

The team also signed offensive lineman Keith Ismael to the practice squad, and released offensive lineman Keaton Sutherland and receiver Connor Wedington from the 16-man squad.

The Niners (0-1) host Seattle (1-0) in Week 2.

San Francisco 49ers running back Elijah Mitchell exited Sunday’s game at Chicago with a knee injury.

Mitchell went to the locker room in the second quarter and the 49ers ruled him out for the remainder of the game.

Playing in slippery conditions at rain-drenched Soldier Field, Mitchell rushed six times for 41 yards.

A sixth-round draft pick in 2021, Mitchell rushed for 963 yards and five touchdowns in 11 games as a rookie.

49ers’ Deebo Samuel, George Kittle off injury report

San Francisco 49ers hybrid wide receiver Deebo Samuel and tight end George Kittle were not listed on the team’s injury report Wednesday.

That is promising news for quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo and the 49ers ahead of Sunday’s NFC Championship Game against the host Los Angeles Rams. Garoppolo is still nursing an ailing thumb, however coach Kyle Shanahan said the quarterback’s right shoulder injury is no long as an issue.

Samuel and Kittle were seen hobbling toward the end of sixth-seeded San Francisco’s 13-10 road victory over the top-seeded Green Bay Packers on Saturday in an NFC divisional-round clash.

Samuel, 26, was the 49ers’ most dangerous weapon on offense this season. He led the team in receiving during the regular season with 1,405 yards on 77 catches with six touchdowns, and added 365 yards and eight scores on the ground.

Kittle, 28, had 71 catches for 910 yards and six touchdowns in 14 games during the regular season.

Offensive tackle Trent Williams (ankle) and rookie running back Elijah Mitchell (knee) did not practice on Wednesday.

“In Trent’s mind, there’s no way he’s not playing,” Shanahan told reporters. “I know he believes he’s playing and so do I. … If he can, he will.”

49ers rookie RB Elijah Mitchell inactive vs. Jaguars

San Francisco 49ers rookie running back Elijah Mitchell was ruled inactive for Sunday’s game against the host Jacksonville Jaguars due to a broken finger.

Mitchell’s availability had been in question all week after he sustained a broken finger in San Francisco’s 31-10 victory over the Los Angeles Rams on Monday. Mitchell had a career-high 27 carries for 91 yards against the Rams.

Jeffery Wilson Jr. is expected to take on a larger workload on Sunday in the absence of Mitchell, who has recorded team-leading totals in carries (116) and rushing yards (560) this season. His three rushing touchdowns are tied with quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo for the club lead.

Mitchell was selected by the 49ers with a sixth-round pick of the 2021 NFL Draft.

Fellow running back JaMycal Hasty, defensive lineman Maurice Hurst and offensive lineman Colton McKivitz were also listed as inactive for the 49ers.
