Falcons activate RB Cordarrelle Patterson off IR

The Atlanta Falcons activated running back Cordarrelle Patterson off injured reserve on Saturday.

Patterson was placed on injured reserve on Oct. 3 with a knee injury before being designated to return on Wednesday. He is now eligible to play in Sunday’s game against the visiting Los Angeles Chargers.

The Falcons also placed starting left guard Elijah Wilkinson on injured reserve Saturday and released edge rusher Quinton Bell. Defensive lineman Jalen Dalton was signed to the 53-man roster off the practice squad, while safety Jovante Moffatt and offensive lineman Ryan Neuzil were designated as practice-squad elevations.

Patterson, 31, has 340 rushing yards and three touchdowns on 58 carries this season. In 2021, in his first season in Atlanta, Patterson had 1,166 yards from scrimmage and 11 touchdowns.

A four-time All-Pro as a kick returner, Patterson is with his fifth team. In 147 career games (52 starts), he has 4,638 yards from scrimmage and 32 scores. He also has gained 7,579 yards as a kick returner, with eight touchdowns, for the Minnesota Vikings (2013-16), then-Oakland Raiders (2017), New England Patriots (2018), Chicago Bears (2019-20) and Falcons.

Wilkinson, 27, is sidelined with a knee injury despite playing in every snap of last Sunday’s 37-34 overtime victory over the Carolina Panthers. Backup center Matt Hennessy and Colby Gossett are candidates to receive the start against the Chargers in his absence.

Bell, 26, recorded two tackles in three games this season with the Falcons.

Falcons TE Kyle Pitts (hamstring) questionable vs. 49ers

Atlanta Falcons tight end Kyle Pitts is listed as questionable to play in Sunday’s game against the visiting San Francisco 49ers.

Pitts was a limited participant in practice on Wednesday and Thursday while nursing a hamstring injury. He sat out the first game of his career in Atlanta’s 21-15 loss to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers last Sunday.

Pitts, 22, has 10 catches for 150 yards for the Falcons (2-3), who will turn to Parker Hesse and Anthony Firkser should he be unable to play against the 49ers (3-2).

Pitts has 78 receptions for 1,176 yards and one touchdown in 21 career games since being selected by Atlanta with the fourth overall pick of the 2021 NFL Draft.

Falcons left guard Elijah Wilkinson (knee) and edge rusher Ade Ogundeji (shoulder) are questionable for Sunday’s game, while linebacker Mykal Walker (groin) has been ruled out.

Broncos to put starting RT Wilkinson (leg) on IR

Denver Broncos starting right tackle Elijah Wilkinson is expected to be placed on injured reserve with a fractured shinbone, adding to the team’s injuy woes.

The team put Jurrell Casey (biceps) and linebacker Austin Calitro (hamstring) on IR Monday following their loss Sunday to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. Also on the list are cornerback A.J. Bouye, linebacker Mark Barron, defensive lineman Dre’Mont Jones, linebacker Von Miller and wide receiver Courtland Sutton.

This season, a trip to injured reserve means a player must miss at least three games before he can return to play. Wilkinson started all three games for Denver (0-3) and didn’t miss a snap.

Demar Dotson is Wilkinson’s backup on the depth chart.

Wilkinson, 25, has played in 39 games (22 starts) over three seasons in Denver.

Coach Vic Fangio did have some good news on the injury front on Tuesday. He said running back Phillip Lindsay (toe) is “close” to returning and that starting quarterback Drew Lock (shoulder) is “doing good in his rehab” but definitely will miss Thursday night’s game against the New York Jets.
