Bucs coach: WR Emeka Egbuka game-time decision vs. Lions

Tampa Bay Buccaneers rookie wide receiver Emeka Egbuka was limited in practice on Saturday and is considered a game-time decision to play in Monday’s game against the host Detroit Lions, head coach Todd Bowles said.

Egbuka missed the previous two practices this week due to a hamstring injury he sustained in Tampa Bay’s 30-19 victory over the San Francisco 49ers last Sunday.

“It’s possible (that he could play versus the Lions). I mean, it’s not definite,” Bowles said on Saturday of Egbuka, who leads the team in catches (27), receiving yards (469) and receiving touchdowns (five).

“Again, it will go all the way to game time. He wants to play, but it depends on how he feels and how he looks.”

Fellow wide receiver Mike Evans (hamstring) also participated in practice on Saturday for the Buccaneers (5-1) and is expected to be a game-time decision, too.

Evans missed Tampa Bay’s games against the Philadelphia Eagles (Sept. 28), the Seattle Seahawks (Oct. 5) and the 49ers. He was injured in the fourth quarter of the Buccaneers’ 29-27 triumph over the New York Jets on Sept. 21.

Bowles, however, ruled out wide receiver Chris Godwin (fibula), running backs Bucky Irving (foot, shoulder) and Josh Williams (concussion) as well as guard Luke Haggard (shoulder) versus the Lions (4-2).

Bucs’ Emeka Egbuka (hamstring) leaves 49ers game, ruled out

Tampa Bay Buccaneers rookie star receiver Emeka Egbuka exited Sunday’s game against the San Francisco 49ers due to a hamstring injury.

Egbuka was injured during the second quarter. The team announced he was doubtful to return during the third quarter and ruled him out early in the fourth quarter.

Egbuka, a first-round pick from Ohio State, had two catches for 24 yards before exiting.

Egbuka has been an immediate force and was the first player in NFL history with 25 catches, 400 yards (he entered Sunday with 445) and five touchdowns in his first five career games.

The injury was another blow to a Tampa Bay receiving unit missing stars Mike Evans (hamstring) and Chris Godwin (fibula).

Bucs list WR Emeka Egbuka questionable; Chris Godwin, Tristan Wirfs out vs. Jets

Rookie wide receiver Emeka Egbuka practiced with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers for the first time this week on Friday and is ready to suit up for Sunday’s game against the New York Jets.

Head coach Todd Bowles said Egbuka officially will be listed as questionable. Left tackle Tristan Wirfs and wide receiver Chris Godwin are out but both circled Week 4 as a targeted return date.

Egbuka was listed as a non-participant due to hip and groin injuries in the team’s first two practices of the week. The Bucs improved to 2-0 at Houston on Monday night.

The 19th overall pick in April, Egbuka has made an immediate impact for the Buccaneers. He hauled in two touchdown passes in his Week 1 debut and snagged another in Monday’s win. He has eight catches for 96 yards in his first two games.

The Buccaneers receiver room already is thinned. Godwin practiced Friday but he’s working his way back from the dislocated ankle that ended his 2024 season last October. Second-year wide receiver Jalen McMillan is on short-term injured reserve after exploding for 24 receptions and seven TD catches in the final five games last season.

Bucs WR Emeka Egbuka (hip, groin) misses Wednesday practice

Two days after a Monday night win in Houston, standout Tampa Bay rookie receiver Emeka Egbuka did not practice on Wednesday.

Egbuka, who had not previously been on the injury report, was listed as a non-participant due to hip and groin injuries in the team’s first practice after improving to 2-0.

The 19th overall pick in this year’s draft, Egbuka has made an immediate impact for the Buccaneers. After catching two touchdown passes in his Week 1 debut, he snagged another in Monday’s win. He has eight catches for 96 yards in his first two games.

The Buccaneers receiver room is already a bit thin, with Chris Godwin still working his way back from the dislocated ankle that ended his 2024 season last October.

In better news for Tampa, quarterback Baker Mayfield was listed as a full participant in Wednesday’s practice despite foot/toe issues. There had been reports that Mayfield may miss some practice time this week after getting beat up a bit in Monday’s game.

Tampa Bay looks to improve to 3-0 at home Sunday vs. the New York Jets (0-2).

Ohio State running back TreVeyon Henderson watches warmups before the Buckeyes game against Maryland at Ohio Stadium on Oct. 7, 2023.

Ohio St. RB TreVeyon Henderson to return from 3-game injury absence

Ohio State running back TreVeyon Henderson will play Saturday at Wisconsin after a three-game injury absence, coach Ryan Day said Thursday on his radio show.

Henderson suited up and went through warmups for the No. 3 Buckeyes in each of their last two games, including last week’s showdown with Penn State, but did not see game action due to an undisclosed injury.

Henderson last appeared Sept. 23 against Notre Dame and ran for 104 yards and a touchdown on 14 carries. After a bye, Henderson was a late scratch for Ohio State’s Oct. 7 win over Maryland.

“Trey’s had a really good week of practice,” Day said on the radio show. “He’s full-go, so excited to get him back out there.”

Henderson leads Ohio State in rushing this season with 295 yards and five touchdowns on 44 attempts.

Day said “other guys will get opportunities as well” against the Badgers. Chip Trayanum started the past three games and Miyan Williams had a season-high 62 yards and a touchdown against Penn State.

Day didn’t specify whether wide receiver Emeka Egbuka or cornerback Denzel Burke would return from their respective, undisclosed injuries against Wisconsin.
