Frank Gore joins 49ers’ front office in advisory role

The San Francisco 49ers hired five-time Pro Bowl running back Frank Gore to their front office staff in an advisory role.

Gore, the franchise’s all-time leading rusher and third-leading rusher in NFL history, posted a picture of the contract being signed on Instagram.

He is expected to work with 49ers general manager John Lynch and assistant GM Adam Peters on player evaluation.

A third-round draft pick by the 49ers in 2005, Gore played the first 10 seasons of his 16-year NFL career in San Francisco. He earned all five of his Pro Bowl selections and posted eight of his nine 1,000-yard seasons there.

Gore, 40, is the 49ers’ career leader in rushing attempts (2,442) and yards (11,073) and ranks second with 64 rushing touchdowns to Hall of Famer Joe Perry (68).

Gore rushed for 653 yards in 15 games with the New York Jets in 2020, finishing his career with 19,985 yards from scrimmage and 99 total touchdowns in 241 games (218 starts) with the 49ers (2005-14), Indianapolis Colts (2015-17), Miami Dolphins (2018), Buffalo Bills (2019) and Jets.

Only Emmitt Smith (18,355) and Walter Payton (16,726) rushed for more yards than Gore.

Ex-NFL RB Frank Gore charged with simple assault

Former NFL running back Frank Gore is facing a simple assault charge linked to an alleged incident of domestic violence in Atlantic City, N.J.

Police there said Tuesday that officers responded to a call at the Tropicana Atlantic City and found a 28-year-old Miami woman speaking with hotel security. According to a police department news release, the alleged victim “did not exhibit signs of injury” and no complaint was filed at the time.

A police investigation that followed, however, resulted in charges against Gore, the NFL’s No. 3 all-time rusher with 16,000 yards.

Gore, 39, was issued a police summons to answer the charge at a date in the future.

While the police news release didn’t offer any specifics about the alleged assault, TMZ reported Wednesday that court documents said Gore grabbed the woman by the hair and then began “violently dragging her nude person” in a hallway on the 59th floor.

In June, Gore signed a one-day contract with the San Francisco 49ers to retire as a member of the franchise.

Only Pro Football Hall of Famers Emmitt Smith (18,355) and Walter Payton (16,726) have rushed for more yards than Gore.

Gore’s agent, Drew Rosenhaus, confirmed the move Thursday on Twitter.

A third-round draft pick by the 49ers in 2005, Gore played the first 10 seasons of his 16-year NFL career in San Francisco. He earned all five of his Pro Bowl selections and posted eight of his nine 1,000-yard seasons there.

Frank Gore says he’s retiring as a 49er after 16K yards

Running back Frank Gore said he will sign a one-day contract and retire as a member of the San Francisco 49ers.

The 38-year-old Gore, who did not play in the NFL last season, ranks third all-time with 16,000 rushing yards.

“We still trying to figure out when I’m going through my one-day contract, to sign, do my retirement,” Gore told TheSFNiners.com in a video shared on YouTube on Saturday. “I told (team owner) Jed York I always want to be a Niner. So we working on that right now.”

A third-round draft pick by the 49ers in 2005, Gore played the first 10 seasons of his 16-year NFL career in San Francisco. He earned all five of his Pro Bowl selections and posted eight of his nine 1,000-yard seasons there.

Gore is the 49ers’ career leader in rushing attempts (2,442) and yards (11,073) and ranks second with 64 rushing touchdowns to Hall of Famer Joe Perry (68).

He rushed for 653 yards in 15 games with the New York Jets in 2000, finishing his career with 19,985 yards from scrimmage and 99 total touchdowns in 241 games (218 starts) with the 49ers (2005-14), Indianapolis Colts (2015-17), Miami Dolphins (2018), Buffalo Bills (2019) and Jets.

Only Emmitt Smith (18,355) and Walter Payton (16,726) have rushed for more yards than Gore, who hinted about a future role with San Francisco’s front office.

“I love looking at talent and I love evaluating talent and I love ball,” he said. “(The 49ers) know that I know football players, what it’s supposed to take to be a football player.”

Gore’s most recent athletic endeavor was a boxing match against former NBA All-Star Deron Williams on Dec. 18, 2021. Gore lost the four-round bout in a split decision.

Report: Frank Gore more interested in boxing than return to football

Free agent Frank Gore is telling teams looking for a running back that he isn’t interested in playing because he has found a new passion.

And that, according to NFL Network, is boxing.

“I’ve always loved boxing, so that’s what I’ve been doing,” he told the outlet. “And we’re trying to make a fight happen. If we do that, you’ll see me in the ring.”

Gore, 38, has 16,000 career rushing yards, good for third all-time behind NFL legends Emmitt Smith (18,355) and Walter Payton (16,726). He’s played 16 NFL seasons with five teams since the San Francisco 49ers selected him in the third round of the 2005 draft.

Per the report, Gore hired fight agent Malki Kawa, and a “high-profile fight” is under discussion.

Gore has been training for football, too, but at this point isn’t ready to say yes to any interested teams.

“I just fell in love with how hard it is,” Gore said of the obstacles boxing presents. “I felt like, ‘Man, I couldn’t fight.’ And I always like a challenge. So I kept doing it and doing it and I saw myself getting better and better.”

Gore spent the 2020 season with the New York Jets. In 15 games (14 starts), he carried the ball 187 times for 653 yards and scored two rushing touchdowns. He added three more scores as a receiver.

Jets place veteran RB Gore on IR

The New York Jets placed running back Frank Gore on injured reserve Wednesday because of a long contusion, possibly marking the end of a storied career for a player known for toughness and durability.

Gore, 37, sustained the injury last week in the Jets’ win against the Cleveland Browns. He will miss the season finale against the New England Patriots.

In 15 games this season, Gore led the Jets with 653 rushing yards and a pair of touchdowns. It marked his first season in New York after spending 10 seasons with the San Francisco 49ers (2005-14), three seasons with the Indianapolis Colts (2015-17), one season with the Miami Dolphins (2018) and one season with the Buffalo Bills (2019).

If this marks the end of his career for Gore, he would leave as the No. 3 rusher in NFL history. He has rushed for an even 16,000 yards in his career, which trails only Emmitt Smith (18,355) and Walter Payton (16,726).

Gore’s 81 rushing touchdowns rank 19th all-time and third among active players. He is a five-time Pro Bowl selection who also has amassed 668 rushing yards and five touchdowns in nine career playoff games.

Jets RB Gore (lung) will miss what could be final game

Running back Frank Gore won’t play Sunday in the New York Jets’ season finale, meaning his likely Hall of Fame career could be over.

Coach Adam Gase said Monday that Gore sustained a lung contusion in the Jets’ Week 16 win over the Cleveland Browns, ending the season for the 37-year-old.

The Jets (2-13) are scheduled to play the New England Patriots (6-8) in Foxborough, Mass., on Sunday.

Gore, 37, hasn’t said whether he intends to return for the 2021 season, but last month — before the Jets got their first win — he acknowledged his career could end after this season.

“We’ve got to get one. You don’t want to go 0-16, especially since this might be my last year,” Gore said at the time.” I can’t go out like that.”

Gore carried the ball 14 times for a team-leading 48 yards on Sunday, giving him 16,000 rushing yards for his career. He trails only Hall of Fame members Emmitt Smith (18,355 yards) and Walter Payton (16,726) on the NFL’s all-time list.

Gore leads the Jets with 653 rushing yards on 187 carries with two touchdowns. He played in all 15 games — the 11th time he’s appeared in at least that many games.

Gore, who played collegiately at Miami (Fla.), was picked by the San Francisco 49ers in the third round of the 2005 NFL Draft. The Jets are his fifth franchise, following the 49ers (2005-14), Indianapolis Colts (2015-17), Miami Dolphins (2018) and Buffalo Bills (2019).

A five-time Pro Bowl selection, Gore rushed for more than 1,000 yards nine times in his career.
