Buccaneers acquire ex-Giants CB Rodarius Williams

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers acquired cornerback Rodarius Williams off waivers from the New York Giants on Monday.

The Bucs also officially placed wide receiver Russell Gage on injured reserve with a ruptured patellar tendon.

Williams, 26, was released by the Giants on Saturday, the same day younger brother and fellow cornerback Greedy Williams was cut by the Philadelphia Eagles.

Rodarius Williams was a sixth-round pick by the Giants in 2021. He has played in only eight games (one start), registering 16 tackles and one interception.

Gage sustained the season-ending injury to his right knee during a joint practice session with the New York Jets last week in Florham Park, N.J.

Gage, 27, caught 51 passes for 426 yards and a career-high five touchdowns in 13 games (four starts) in his first season with the Buccaneers in 2022.

He has 244 receptions for 2,491 yards and 14 scores in 74 games (25 starts) with the Bucs and Atlanta Falcons, who drafted him in the sixth round in 2018.

Bucs WR Russell Gage ruptured patellar tendon

Buccaneers receiver Russell Gage will have season-ending surgery this week to repair a ruptured patellar tendon, the Tampa Bay Times reported Thursday.

He was carted off the field Wednesday after sustaining the knee injury during a joint practice session with the New York Jets in Florham Park, N.J.

Gage had been listed as a starter on the Bucs’ depth chart, along with Mike Evans and Chris Godwin. His absence opens the door for Trey Palmer, Deven Thompkins and David Moore, among other wide receivers on the roster.

Bucs WR Russell Gage gets carted off due to injury

Tampa Bay receiver Russell Gage was carted off the field on a backboard due to an apparent neck injury with 2:55 left in the Buccaneers’ NFC wild-card game against the Dallas Cowboys on Monday.

Gage was unable to get up on multiple occasions after an incomplete pass was thrown his way by Tom Brady. Cowboys safety Donovan Wilson’s right arm smacked into the side of Gage’s helmet on the play.

Gage departed the Buccaneers’ regular-season finale against the Atlanta Falcons on Jan. 8 with a lower back injury.

The 26-year-old LSU product caught two passes for 10 yards in Monday’s game. Gage had 51 catches for 426 yards and five touchdowns in the 2022 regular season, his first year in Tampa Bay after he opened his NFL career by playing four seasons for the Falcons.

In 74 career regular-season games (25 starts), Gage has 244 receptions for 2,491 yards and 14 touchdowns.

The Cowboys beat the Buccaneers 31-14 on Monday to advance to a Sunday matchup against the San Francisco 49ers.

Bucs S Antoine Winfield Jr. (concussion) likely out for ‘TNF’

Tampa Bay Buccaneers safety Antoine Winfield Jr. is likely out for Thursday night’s game with a concussion and wide receiver Russell Gage is having an MRI on Monday on his injured hamstring.

Bucs coach Todd Bowles said Monday that Winfield is in the protocol with not enough time to get cleared on a short week.

The Bucs (3-4) host the Baltimore Ravens (4-3) to kick off Week 8 on “Thursday Night Football.” The Bucs have lost two straight and four of five.

Winfield was injured in Sunday’s loss to the Carolina Panthers and Gage has been battling hamstring issues all season.

Gage caught four passes for 39 yards on five targets against Carolina. Winfield had two tackles, including one for a loss. Winfield had played every snap this season before leaving Sunday’s game after 28 plays on defense.

Winfield, coming off a Pro Bowl season in 2021, has 39 tackles, three sacks, an interception and a forced fumble in seven starts this season. The 24-year-old has eight sacks and four INTs in 36 games (all starts) since the Bucs selected him in the second round of the 2020 draft.

Gage, 26, is in his first season with the Bucs and has 29 catches for 231 yards and a touchdown in seven games (four starts). He has 10 career TD receptions.

Bucs WR Julio Jones inactive vs. Falcons

Tampa Bay Buccaneers wide receiver Julio Jones was ruled inactive for Sunday’s game against the visiting Atlanta Falcons.

Jones, who is nursing a knee injury, is the Falcons’ franchise leader in in catches (848) and receiving yards (12,896). He also ranks second in club history with 60 receiving touchdowns.

While Jones and fellow wideout Breshad Perriman (knee, hamstring) are out for Sunday’s game, Russell Gage is active against his former team despite being limited in practice all week with a back injury. Gage is set to join Mike Evans and Chris Godwin in Tom Brady’s passing attack for the Buccaneers (2-2), who have lost two in a row.

Tampa Bay also listed wide receiver Deven Thompkins and quarterback Kyle Trask as inactive on Sunday.

Tight end Cameron Brate (concussion), safety Logan Ryan (foot) and defensive tackle Akiem Hicks (foot) had been ruled out for the game on Friday.

Also on Friday, the Falcons announced tight end Kyle Pitts would miss the first game of his NFL career on Sunday.

Pitts, a former first-round pick, did not participate in practice all week while dealing with a hamstring injury.

On Sunday, the Falcons listed linebackers DeAngelo Malone and Nick Kwiatkoski, offensive lineman Chuma Edoga and wide receiver Jared Bernhardt as inactive.

Bucs WR Russell Gage exits practice with apparent injury

Tampa Bay Buccaneers wide receiver Russell Gage sustained an apparent left leg injury during Wednesday’s joint practice with the Miami Dolphins.

Gage walked off the field with trainers. The severity of the injury was not immediately known.

The Bucs have already seen fellow wideout Mike Evans sustain a hamstring injury during practice last Friday. He is considered day-to-day with the injury by coach Todd Bowles.

Wideout Chris Godwin is working his way back from surgery in January to repair a torn ACL and MCL in his right knee.

Gage, 26, signed a three-year, $30 million contract with the Buccaneers after spending his first four seasons with the NFC South-rival Atlanta Falcons.

Gage had 66 catches for 770 yards and four touchdowns in 14 games last season. He has 193 receptions for 2,065 yards and nine scores in 61 career games since being selected by the Falcons in the sixth round of the 2018 NFL Draft.
