Report: Tennessee still without top two corners vs. Georgia

No. 15 Tennessee will be missing both starting cornerbacks for Saturday’s SEC showdown with No. 6 Georgia in Knoxville, ESPN reported Monday.

Preseason All-American Jermod McCoy and fellow junior Rickey Gibson III will miss the matchup of 2-0 teams.

McCoy is still recovering from a torn ACL sustained while training in January, while Gibson injured his left arm in the Aug. 30 opener against Syracuse.

Neither player was available for last Saturday’s 72-17 home win against East Tennessee State, with head coach Josh Heupel telling reporters Gibson is out for an “extended time.”

Colorado transfer Colton Hood has taken advantage of his starting role, earning SEC co-defensive player of the week honors after returning a fumble for a touchdown against Syracuse.

Freshman Ty Redmond made his first start against ETSU and tallied two tackles and a pass breakup.

Tennessee has lost eight straight meetings with Georgia. The Volunteers’ last home win over the Bulldogs came in 2015.
