Giants to release WR Kenny Golladay

Wide receiver Kenny Golladay was informed he will be released by the New York Giants on Tuesday, ending the failed free agency experiment after two seasons and 43 total receptions.

Golladay, 29, won’t be cut until the new league year begins on March 15, which saves the Giants nearly $7 million.

Golladay received a $4.5 million bonus in February and cost the Giants a total of $40.4 million for two seasons.

He posted six receptions for 81 yards and a touchdown in 12 games in 2022, the second season of a four-year, $72 million deal he signed when former general manager Dave Gettleman was building the roster in 2021.

But Golladay fought knee issues and never found a consistent role under coach Brian Daboll and general manager Joe Schoen.

Also inactive for the Giants (7-4) are cornerbacks Adoree’ Jackson and Darnay Holmes, guards Shane Lemieux and Joshua Ezedu, tight end Lawrence Cager and linebacker Elerson Smith.

Also sitting this one out for the Commanders (7-5) are wide receiver Dax Milne, cornerback Benjamin St-Juste, linebacker De’Jon Harris and guards Chris Paul and Trai Turner.

Giants add Mark Glowinski, Kenny Golladay to injury report

New York Giants starting right guard Mark Glowinski and wide receiver Kenny Golladay have been added to the injury report ahead of Sunday’s game against the visiting Washington Commanders.

Glowinski (back) and Golladay (illness) are both listed as questionable for Sunday’s game in East Rutherford, N.J. Neither player was on Friday’s report.

Glowinski, 30, has started all 11 games for the Giants this season. He has played in 106 career games (85 starts) with the Seattle Seahawks (2014-17), Indianapolis Colts (2018-21) and Giants.

Golladay, 29, has four catches for 51 yards in seven games this season — his second with New York.

Giants defensive back Adoree’ Jackson (knee) and offensive linemen Josh Ezeudu (neck) and Shane Lemieux (toe) have been ruled out for the game. New York lists 11 players as questionable, including wide receivers Darius Slayton (illness) and Richie James (knee).

Giants get WR back, lose two for season during bye week

The bye week was painful for the New York Giants.

Safety Xavier McKinney is out for weeks with a hand injury suffered while on an ATV tour during the week off and the Giants also lost defensive tackle Nick Williams in a more traditional method; he suffered a torn biceps at Seattle before the bye week.

“I feel bad for Xavier. Disappointed that he got injured. And he’ll do everything he can do to get back and be ready to go,” Giants head coach Brian Daboll said. “I feel bad for him. I feel bad for us. I know he’s disappointed. But we can’t do anything about that now.”

Daboll said Tuesday the Giants also confirmed cornerback Aaron Robinson (knee) would be out for the season. He was injured in the Week 4 win over the Chicago Bears.

McKinney, the team’s defensive co-captain and on-field play caller, was placed on the non-football injury list and cannot return before Dec. 11. Daboll said he would miss at least the mandatory four games but wouldn’t disclose the nature of the injury incurred while riding an ATV in Mexico.

The Giants did get some potential good news with wide receiver Kenny Golladay back at practice. Golladay, the purported lead receiver for the Giants, last practiced two days before New York beat the Bears (Week 4) due to a sprained knee.

Offensive guard Shane Lemieux, the starter on the left side, has been out with a foot injury since Aug. 11 but was able to practice Tuesday. The Giants are likely to take their time with Lemieux, who started in 2020 as a rookie and suffered a knee injury in 2021.

Giants WRs Kenny Golladay, Kadarius Toney out vs. Ravens

The New York Giants ruled out wide receivers Kenny Golladay and Kadarius Toney and three defensive backs for Sunday’s game against the visiting Baltimore Ravens.

The team confirmed Friday that Golladay (knee) and Toney (hamstring) will sit out, as will safeties Tony Jefferson (foot) and Jason Pinnock (ankle) and cornerback Cor’Dale Flott (calf).

Linebacker Azeez Ojulari (calf) is doubtful, while tight end Tanner Hudson (illness), wideout Wan’Dale Robinson (knee) and defensive lineman Leonard Williams (knee) are all questionable.

Neither Golladay nor Toney has caught a pass since the season opener, yet the Giants are 4-1 heading into their Week 6 contest against the Ravens (3-2).

Giants WR Kenny Golladay (MCL) to miss London trip

New York Giants wide receiver Kenny Golladay is not expected to travel to London this week, leaving the team short on options at the position against the Green Bay Packers.

The Week 5 matchup on Sunday comes with plenty of question marks for the Giants (3-1), who finished their win last week with quarterback Daniel Jones limited to handoffs and running back Saquon Barkley lining up as the Wildcat QB due to injuries.

Golladay is in the midst of a disappointing season with two receptions for 22 yards, stats he collected in Week 1. The Giants are playing without Sterling Shepard (torn ACL) and Barkley and Richie James share the team lead with 15 receptions.

NFL Network reported Golladay could be hindered by the knee sprain for multiple weeks.

New York managed a 20-12 win over the Bears last week with nine total pass completions and 82 yards through the air.

The status for both Jones (ankle) and backup Tyrod Taylor (concussion) remains up in the air.

New York held free agent workouts involving multiple positions on Tuesday.

Giants WR Kenny Golladay laments dropping ball

New York Giants wide receiver Kenny Golladay decried first-year head coach Brian Daboll’s decision to focus on wideouts Richie James and David Sills in the first two weeks of the season.

Golladay, the team’s highest-paid receiver in the second year of a four-year, $72 million contract, was irate after not being targeted by quarterback Daniel Jones in Week 2. “I should be playing regardless. That’s a fact,” Golladay said.

When the opportunity came against the Dallas Cowboys on “Monday Night Football,” Golladay dropped it. Quite literally.

On third down in the fourth quarter, Jones targeted Golladay for the third time in the game on an in-cutting route with room to run. Jones put the ball on Golladay’s hands but the third-and-13 pass was dropped.

“Me just trying to make a play for the team and get up the field. I was running before I really secured the ball,” Golladay said after the game. “That’s pretty much all that that was. That’s stuff that can’t happen, especially when 8 is pretty much doing everything to get us the ball and to get us in position to win the football game. I want to be a guy that can make that play, so I definitely put that on myself. It was third down and that can’t happen.

“It’s very difficult. I’m beating myself up about it. I definitely wish I could have it back.”

Daboll never went back to Golladay, who didn’t play another snap in Monday’s 23-16 home loss to the Cowboys. But with Sterling Shepard (knee) expected to miss the rest of the season, the Giants might need to ignore Golladay’s desire to be traded. He was signed by previous general manager Dave Gettleman to provide big plays down the field.

But the Giants have only one pass play this season over 25 yards; Shepard scored on a 65-yard connection with Jones in Week 1.

James leads the Giants with 14 receptions (17 targets) and Sills has five receptions for 57 yards (eight targets). Golladay hasn’t caught a pass since Week 1 and stands at two receptions (five targets) in three games.

Giants WR Kenny Golladay snaps over snap counts

One man’s treasure when he signed a $72 million contract with the New York Giants, wide receiver Kenny Golladay spent the past few days wondering if he might be ticketed for the recycle bin.

Golladay played two offensive snaps in the Giants’ win over the Carolina Panthers on Sunday and exited the locker room during the 15-minute “cooling off” period afforded players before media gain access to the area.

“I didn’t agree with it,” Golladay said Wednesday of first-year coach Brian Daboll’s decision to keep him off the field. “I should be playing regardless. That’s a fact.”

Targeted twice in Week 1, Golladay caught two passes for 22 yards at Tennessee but led the wide receiver group with 46 snaps. He wasn’t targeted in Week 2, when Sterling Shepard had six receptions and 10 targets. Richie James leads the Giants in receptions with 10 for 110 yards.

“Little confusing,” Golladay said. “I came here to play.”

Golladay has a $21.2 million cap hit in 2022 but injuries, including a hip problem that derailed his 2020 season and lower-body ailments last year, might be limiting him from returning to the version that caught 11 touchdowns with 1,190 yards for the Detroit Lions in 2019.

Daboll said he continues to stress to Golladay and all of his players that playing time will be based on “continual competition,” adding that David Sills V earned his playing time against the Panthers. He led all receivers in the game with 67 offensive snaps.

Entering the second year of a four-year deal with $40 million guaranteed, Golladay was signed to be the No. 1 receiver by former general manager Dave Gettleman.

New Giants general manager Joe Schoen and Golladay were seen chatting before Wednesday’s practice and the conversation ended with a fist bump.

Asked at his locker after practice if he intends to request a trade, Golladay said, “We’ll see how it goes.”

Giants RB Saquon Barkley, WR Kenny Golladay out vs. Chiefs

The New York Giants officially ruled out running back Saquon Barkley, receiver Kenny Golladay and three others for Monday night’s game at Kansas City.

Barkley (ankle), Golladay (knee), linebackers Lorenzo Carter (ankle) and Carter Coughlin (ankle) and defensive back Nate Ebner (ankle) will not be in action for the Giants (2-5) against the Chiefs (3-4).

Wide receivers Sterling Shepard (hamstring) and Kadarius Toney (ankle) and tight end Kaden Smith (knee) are all listed as questionable.

Barkley and Golladay haven’t played since Week 5. Barkley, 24, has rushed for 195 yards and two touchdowns and caught 14 passes for 130 yards and one score in five starts this season.

Golladay, 27, has 17 receptions for 282 yards and no touchdowns in five starts.

Carter, 25, has 20 tackles, one interception and one fumble recovery in seven starts.

Coughlin, 24, plays primarily on special teams and has six tackles in seven games.

Ebner, 32, has only played on special teams this season and has two tackles in six games.

Giants RB Saquon Barkley, two WRs ruled out vs. Panthers

New York Giants star running back Saquon Barkley and wide receivers Kadarius Toney and Kenny Golladay have been ruled out of Sunday’s game against the visiting Carolina Panthers.

Barkley (ankle) and Golladay (knee) will both miss a second straight game with their respective injuries. Toney, who leads the team with 317 receiving yards, aggravated an ankle injury in New York’s 38-11 setback to the Los Angeles Rams last Sunday.

Wide receivers Sterling Shepard, Darius Slayton and John Ross are questionable with hamstring injuries, while tight end Evan Engram also received that designation as he deals with an ailing calf.

Shepard was able to play last week against the Rams and finished with 10 catches for 76 yards. Slayton did not play last week, while Ross was held without a catch and Engram had just three receptions for 24 yards.

The injury-riddled Giants (1-5) will look for more production from Devontae Booker, who paced the ground attack with 12 carries for 41 yards last week.
