Cardinals to be featured on in-season ‘Hard Knocks’

The Arizona Cardinals will be featured on the second installment of HBO’s “Hard Knocks In Season.”

It’s the first appearance for the Cardinals on “Hard Knocks.”

The series will debut in November in the second half of the 2022 season. The in-season series debuted in 2021 with the Indianapolis Colts.

“We can’t wait to get to work in Arizona, and we thank (owner) Michael Bidwill, (general manager) Steve Keim, coach (Kliff) Kingsbury and the entire Cardinals organization for this opportunity,” said Keith Cossrow, NFL Films senior coordinating producer in the announcement.

The Detroit Lions will be featured in the preseason edition of “Hard Knocks” in August.

“Hard Knocks” premiered on HBO in 2001. Except for 2011, when the league had an offseason lockout, the show has followed at least one team every preseason since 2007.

Lions to be featured team in 2022 ‘Hard Knocks’

The Detroit Lions will be featured in this year’s documentary series “Hard Knocks,” HBO and NFL Films announced Monday at the annual league meetings.

The five-part series will return to chronicling the Lions during training camp. The debut is set for Aug. 9 on HBO. Last season featured the Indianapolis Colts during the regular season, a first for the documentary.

The Lions are coming off a 3-13-1 season, the first for head coach Dan Campbell.

“We are excited about the opportunity to showcase the City of Detroit and the amazing culture we are building at the Lions. HBO Sports and NFL Films are the best of the best, and we know they will be excellent partners in sharing our story with football fans around the world,” Lions CEO Rod Wood said.

The Lions were one of three teams that could not turn down an invitation from HBO, per NFL rules stipulating cooperation. The other two were the Carolina Panthers and New York Jets.

The Lions are the 15th team to be in the spotlight. The Dallas Cowboys have appeared a league-leading three times.

“Hard Knocks” premiered on HBO in 2001. Except for 2011, when the league had an offseason lockout, the show has followed at least one team every preseason since 2007.

Colts will be focus of ‘Hard Knocks’ in-season episodes

The Indianapolis Colts will feature in the first in-season episodes of HBO’s “Hard Knocks” this year, the NFL announced Thursday.

“Hard Knocks In Season: The Indianapolis Colts” will premiere Wednesday, Nov. 17, and run every Wednesday for the remainder of the season.

The Colts are coming off a playoff run in 2020 but started the season with a 28-16 loss to the Seattle Seahawks.

Indianapolis has plenty of storylines for the show. These include Carson Wentz trying to revive his career after falling out of favor in Philadelphia, the relationship between Wentz and coach Frank Reich, the play of star linebacker Darius Leonard and the ongoing pandemic.

“We could not be more thrilled to bring ‘Hard Knocks’ and the remarkable behind-the-scenes access it provides for the entirety of an NFL season,” NFL Films senior executive Ross Ketover said in a statement. “Thanks to HBO, along with the incredible cooperation from the Colts, we are able to deliver a groundbreaking new edition of the series.”

“Hard Knocks” first premiered on HBO in 2001. Except for 2011, when the league had an offseason lockout, the show has followed at least one team every preseason since 2007.

The Dallas Cowboys were the stars of this summer’s season. It was their third time being featured.

The Colts have never been featured on the show.

Cowboys to be featured on ‘Hard Knocks’ for third time

The Dallas Cowboys will appear on the HBO series “Hard Knocks” starting Aug. 10.

“Love them or hate them, when you see them, it’s hard to look away,” read a video message posted by the team on Twitter on Friday.

The long-running documentary series will chronicle the Cowboys’ 2021 training camp at Oxnard, Calif.

This is the third time Dallas has been featured on the program (2002, 2008), more than any other NFL franchise. The Cincinnati Bengals and Los Angeles Rams have each appeared twice.

“The Cowboys are one of the most storied franchises in NFL history and a team that elicits strong reactions from fans around the world,” Ken Rodgers, vice president and senior coordinating producer at NFL Films, said in a statement. “Tens of millions of fans love them, but just as many people love to hate them. Either way, when the Cowboys show up people watch, which makes them perfect for ‘Hard Knocks.’

“This year, their high-profile status as ‘America’s Team’ is paired with uniquely interesting storylines. We can’t thank (owner Jerry) Jones and (head coach Mike) McCarthy enough for letting us tell the story behind what we hope is the beginning of an exciting year in Dallas.”

The finale of the five-episode series will air on Sept. 7, two days before the Cowboys’ 2021 season opener against the defending Super Bowl champion Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
