Reports: TE Hayden Hurst to sign with Chargers

Tight end Hayden Hurst plans to sign with the Los Angeles Chargers, multiple outlets reported Thursday.

The Carolina Panthers released the 30-year-old veteran this month, avoiding a $1.85 million roster bonus.

Hurst finished the 2023 season on injured reserve following complications after sustaining a concussion.

He caught 18 passes for 184 yards and one touchdown in nine games (eight starts) prior to the injury on Nov. 9.

Hurst reportedly was diagnosed with post-traumatic amnesia and went through a slow recovery before clearing concussion protocol in early January.

Hurst spent his first two seasons with the Baltimore Ravens, who selected him No. 25 overall in the 2018 NFL Draft, followed by two seasons with the Atlanta Falcons and one with the Cincinnati Bengals. He has 195 catches for 1,902 yards and 15 touchdowns in 79 games (39 starts).

Reports: Panthers planning to release TE Hayden Hurst

The Carolina Panthers plan to veteran tight end Hayden Hurst, multiple outlets reported Tuesday.

The 30-year-old veteran is due a $1.85 million roster bonus on March 16.

Hurst finished the 2023 season on injured reserve following complications after sustaining a concussion.

“It’s starting fresh,” Hurst said on Jan. 8 of his viewpoint entering the offseason. “It’s another prove-it year for everyone in this locker room. It’s actually, for me and my mindset, it’s a great thing. I get to go back to work. Tear it all down and start fresh this offseason.”

Reports: Panthers reach agreement with TE Hayden Hurst

The Carolina Panthers are in agreement on a three-year deal with free agent tight end Hayden Hurst, ESPN and NFL Network reported Wednesday.

Financial terms were not reported. The new league year begins Wednesday at 4 p.m. ET.

Hurst, 29, gives the Panthers a No. 1 tight end. Ian Thomas and Tommy Tremble are also on the roster.

Hurst caught 52 passes for 414 yards and two touchdowns in 13 games (all starts) for the Cincinnati Bengals in 2022. He missed time with a calf injury.

Hurst has 177 catches for 1,718 yards and 14 TDs in 70 career games (31 starts) for Baltimore (2018-19), Atlanta (2020-21) and the Bengals. He was selected No. 25 overall by the Ravens in the 2018 draft.

Bengals TE Hayden Hurst (calf) ruled out vs. Patriots

Cincinnati Bengals tight end Hayden Hurst was downgraded from questionable to out for Saturday’s game against the host New England Patriots in Foxborough, Mass.

The Bengals announced the news on Friday for Hurst, who was a limited participant in all three practices this week. He is attempting to work his way back from a right calf injury he sustained in the Bengals’ 27-24 victory over the Kansas City Chiefs on Dec. 4.

Fellow tight end Mitchell Wilcox will continue to see more playing time in place of Hurst. Wilcox, 26, had three receptions for 34 yards and a touchdown in Cincinnati’s 34-23 victory over the Tampa Bay Buccaneers on Sunday.

Hurst, 29, has 48 receptions for 400 yards and two touchdowns in 12 games this season.

He has 173 catches for 1,704 yards and 14 touchdowns in 69 career games with the Baltimore Ravens (2018-19), Atlanta Falcons (2020-21) and Bengals.

Reports: Falcons won’t pick up TE Hayden Hurst’s option

The Atlanta Falcons won’t pick up the fifth-year option of tight end Hayden Hurst, multiple outlets reported Monday.

Hurst, the No. 25 overall pick of the 2018 NFL Draft by the Baltimore Ravens, will become a free agent after the season. The Falcons acquired Hurst and a fourth-round pick in a trade last March, sending 2020 second- and fifth-round draft picks to the Ravens.

The Falcons selected Florida tight end Kyle Pitts with the No. 4 overall pick in the 2021 draft last week.

Hurst, 27, played in 16 games (nine starts) last season and recorded career highs in receptions (56), yards (571) and touchdowns (six).

In 44 games over three NFL seasons, Hurst has 99 catches for 1,083 yards and nine scores.

Hurst would have earned nearly $5.5 million in 2022 had his option been picked up, per Over the Cap.
