Chargers star WR Keenan Allen (heel) ruled out vs. Bills

Star receiver Keenan Allen will miss his second straight game with a heel injury when the Los Angeles Chargers host the Buffalo Bills on Saturday.

Allen didn’t practice all week and the team formally ruled him out on Thursday.

Allen also missed the club’s humiliating 63-21 loss to the Las Vegas Raiders on Dec. 14.

The 31-year-old has enjoyed a big season in his 11th NFL campaign. Allen has a league-high 108 receptions while accumulating 1,243 yards and seven touchdowns.

Cornerback Deane Leonard (heel) is doubtful for the Chargers.

For Buffalo, safety Micah Hyde (neck stinger) was ruled out. He is missing his second straight contest.

Bills rule S Micah Hyde, two others out for Sunday

Buffalo won’t have safety Micah Hyde or defensive tackle Jordan Phillips for Sunday’s game at Miami, Bills coach Sean McDermott confirmed Friday.

As expected, cornerback Dane Jackson also was ruled out with a neck injury sustained in a scary collision during Monday night’s win over the Tennessee Titans.

Hyde (neck) and Phillips (hamstring) also were injured in Monday’s victory and have been unable to practice this week.

Hyde, 31, has seven tackles through two games this season, his sixth campaign with Buffalo and 10th in the NFL.

Phillips, 30, has six tackles, four QB hits and 1.5 sacks through two games. He began his career as a second-round pick of the Dolphins in 2015.

McDermott said other players listed on this week’s injury report were expected to participate in Friday’s practice, including wide receiver Gabe Davis (ankle), tight end Dawson Knox (foot) and defensive tackles Ed Oliver (ankle) and Tim Settle (calf).

Seahawks RBs Carson, Hyde to miss third straight games

The Seattle Seahawks ruled out running backs Chris Carson and Carlos Hyde for Sunday’s road game against the Los Angeles Rams.

The Seahawks downgraded both players on Saturday after listing them as questionable a day earlier. Carson has a foot injury, and Hyde is dealing with a hamstring injury.

It will be the third straight game that both players sit out.

Carson, 26, has 323 rushing yards and three touchdowns in six games, and also has three more scores as a receiver. Hyde, 30, has rushed for 125 yards and two touchdowns in four games.

Seattle elevated Alex Collins from the practice squad to help deal with their absences. Collins also was elevated last week and carried twice for 5 yards during a 44-34 loss to the Buffalo Bills.

The Seahawks had just 57 rushing yards against the Bills with DeeJay Dallas (31) and Travis Homer (16) leading the way. But Dallas (arm/wrist) and Homer (knee) sustained injuries during the contest as well, though both are cleared to play against the Rams.

Seattle also activated defensive tackle Damon “Snacks” Harrison from the practice squad and defensive back/special teams ace Neiko Thorpe (hip) off injured reserve. The club also put defensive tackle Bryan Mone (ankle) on injured reserve.

Harrison, 31, is a nine-year veteran who was a Pro Bowl selection for the New York Giants in 2016. He has played for the New York Jets (2012-15), Giants (2016-18) and Detroit Lions (2018-19).

“I am really excited to see him play,” coach Pete Carroll said of Harrison. “He’s been a unique player for a long time. He’s worked really hard to get ready to go.”

Thorpe, 30, has missed six straight games since being injured in Week 2.

“We’re really excited about getting him back,” Carroll said of Thorpe. “He’s been a real centerpiece on special teams, and we’ve really missed him.”

Adams back for Seahawks, six others ruled out vs. Bills

Seattle standout safety Jamal Adams will return from a four-game injury absence when the Seahawks visit the Buffalo Bills on Sunday.

Adams hasn’t played since sustaining a groin injury in Week 3. The two-time Pro Bowler was acquired from the New York Jets prior to the season and has 23 tackles and two sacks.

While the news was good regarding Adams, six other players were ruled out of Sunday’s game.

Running backs Chris Carson (foot) and Carlos Hyde (hamstring) will both miss their second straight games. Travis Homer (72 yards) and DeeJay Dallas (49) are the only other backs on the 53-man roster but Seattle will likely promote Alex Collins from the practice squad to be the third back.

Seahawks coach Pete Carroll was hopeful Carson would test the foot on Friday but that didn’t occur.

“He couldn’t make it today,” Seattle coach Pete Carroll said. “Today was going to be the day we tried to decide where he was and they didn’t feel like it was right to bring him out there today, so we’ve got to leave him home, take care of him and get him ready for next week (against the Los Angeles Rams).”

The Seahawks also ruled out guard Mike Iupati (back), defensive end Benson Mayowa (ankle), cornerback Shaquill Griffin (concussion/hamstring) and safety Ugo Amadi (hamstring).

Carson ‘week to week’ amid Seahawks’ banged-up backfield

The Seattle Seahawks’ perfect 5-0 record took a hit Sunday night. So did their offensive backfield.

In losing to the Arizona Cardinals 37-34 in overtime, Seattle’s top three running backs all went down with injuries, leaving the team with question marks heading into their Week 8 meeting with the visiting San Francisco 49ers.

Leading rusher Chris Carson, who has piled up 323 yards and has three touchdowns on the ground and three more as a receiver, sustained his injury in the first half Sunday and did not return. An MRI on Monday confirmed a mid-foot sprain, his second sprain this month after he hurt his knee in early October.

“There’s something there that we could see,” coach Pete Carroll said. “It’s just week-to-week, so we’ll see what happens. We don’t know. He was real determined to say, ‘I can go with it,’ but we won’t know until the end of the week, for sure.”

Top backup Carlos Hyde replaced Carson in the second quarter and gained 68 yards on 15 carries, but his status is unclear due to tightness in his hamstring. Carroll said the team was “hoping” he could play Sunday against San Francisco, where his career began.

Third-down back Travis Homer also got banged up against the Cardinals, suffering a bruised knee in the fourth quarter. An MRI showed no structural damage, so “that’s something he has a chance to recover (quickly) from,” said Carroll.

With those three injuries, the Seahawks may have to rely on rookie fourth-rounder DeeJay Dallas, who has played just two games this season, as they have no other running backs on their roster or practice squad. Rashaad Penny, their 2018 first-round pick, is not ready to return from his knee injury and is still on the physically unable to perform list.
