Report: NFL investigating case of free agent WR Isaiah Bond

The NFL is looking into the now-closed criminal case against former Texas wide receiver Isaiah Bond, who announced on social media that he expects to sign with the Cleveland Browns as an undrafted free agent.

NFL spokesperson Brian McCarthy told Cleveland.com Friday that the case was under review, despite a grand jury in Collin County, Texas, deciding Thursday not to indict Bond on a sexual account charge following his arrest in April.

He still could face punishment under the league’s personal conduct policy once he signs with a team. He posted to X on Thursday that would be the Browns, although the team’s front office has not confirmed that.

“First and foremost, I want to express my deepest gratitude to the Cleveland Browns for believing in me and allowing me the opportunity to continue my career in the NFL,” Bond said. “Football has been my passion since I was six years old, and playing at this level is a blessing I will never take for granted. I understand that playing in the NFL is a privilege, and I’m thankful every day to live my childhood dream.

“I know there have been questions and reports about the recent allegations. I am grateful for the decision of the prosecutor and the courts not to pursue charges. I will learn from this experience as I grow in wisdom, character, and faith. On the advice of my attorney, I will not discuss the details of this case, but I want to be clear: from the very beginning I have refuted these allegations and maintained my innocence. I stand firm by that today.”

At Texas, Bond played just one season after transferring from Alabama. The Georgia native caught 34 catches for 540 yards, reeling in five touchdowns over 14 games.

Bond ran a 4.39 40-yard-dash at the NFL Scouting Combine. And while he was expected to be a Day 2 draft pick — ESPN draft guru Mel Kiper Jr. had pegged him as a late second-round pick — he was not selected, reportedly over character concerns as well as his size (5-foot-11, 180 pounds).

Lawyers for NFL draft prospect Isaiah Bond file lawsuit against woman

Less than a week after turning himself into authorities on a sexual assault warrant, NFL draft prospect Isaiah Bond has filed a lawsuit against the woman who made the initial claims.

Lawyers for Bond filed the suit in United States District Court in Northern Texas on Tuesday, saying the woman made false statements to police in Frisco, Texas.

Bond, a standout wide receiver for the Texas Longhorns last season, turned himself into police on April 10, although he denied the allegations on Instagram after posting a $25,000 bond.

“Regarding the accusation made against me, I would appreciate the time and opportunity to defend myself and prove the claims made, patently false,” Bond wrote. “I am in full cooperation with the authorities and will remain a willing and active participant in the investigation. Unfortunately, claims like these prove to be harmful to all involved, absent full review. I kindly request that all reserve judgement until the authorities provide a complete report based on truth and evidence.”

Bond’s lawyers say that the wideout did engage in a sexual encounter with the unnamed woman, calling the affair consensual. The lawsuit, which includes a defamation claim, asks for economic damages and a civil trial.

After spending two years at Alabama, Bond transferred to Texas for the 2024 season, during which he recorded 34 receptions for 540 yards and five touchdowns. He also had four carries for 98 yards and a score. For his career, Bond had 99 catches for 1,428 yards and 10 TDs, leading some NFL draft experts to slot him as a second- or third-round pick in next week’s draft.

NFL draft prospect Isaiah Bond surrenders on sexual assault warrant

Wide receiver Isaiah Bond, a prospect in this month’s NFL draft, turned himself in to police in Frisco, Texas, on a sexual assault warrant on Thursday.

Bond posted bail and was released. He posted a statement to Instagram to deny that he committed the act.

I kindly request that all reserve judgement until the authorities provide a complete report based on truth and evidence. Humbly, Isaiah Bond.”

Details of the accusation against Bond were not yet known.

Bond transferred to Texas in 2024 after spending two seasons at Alabama. He had 34 receptions for 540 yards and five touchdowns and added four carries for 98 yards and a rushing touchdown in 14 games this past season.

Bond tallied 99 receptions for 1,428 yards and 10 touchdowns in his three-year college career. Several outlets project him as a second- or third-round draft pick.

Ex-Texas WR Isaiah Bond targets 40 record: ‘Might run a 4.1’

INDIANAPOLIS — Isaiah Bond is ready to run down records and fly past another former Texas Longhorns wide receiver at the NFL Scouting Combine.

Bond said Friday morning at the Indianapolis Convention Center he is ready to make headlines when wide receiver workouts begin across the street at Lucas Oil Stadium on Saturday.

“I’m going to break the record tomorrow, for sure,” Bond said. “I anticipate running 4.20 or possibly, if I’m feeling great, I might run a 4.1.”

The standing mark of 4.21 seconds was set last year by Kansas City Chiefs first-round pick Xavier Worthy, another Texas wide receiver.

Bond, 20, transferred to Texas before the 2024 season after starting his college career at Alabama. His track background long has been evident on the field, but his hands aren’t always as reliable as Worthy’s. In 2024, he caught 34 passes for 540 yards with five touchdowns and touched 22 mph on a 51-yard TD catch against Texas-San Antonio. Two of his five touchdowns last season came against UTSA.

“I’ve been running my whole life,” Bond said. “I’ve been one of the fastest my whole life so I’m going to go out there and when practice meets preparation, greatness is achieved. So I’m just going to trust my training and put on a show.”

Bond was a track star and high school All-American wide receiver in Georgia. He won the Georgia 6A 100-meter (10.51) and 200-meter (21.19) state titles as a junior and has personal bests of 10.48 (100 meters) and 21.05 (200 meters).

Bond started 12 games and played in 27 at Alabama. He led the Crimson Tide with 48 receptions for 668 yards in 2023.

Alabama’s Isaiah Bond makes ‘business decision,’ transfers to Texas

Alabama wide receiver Isaiah Bond said Sunday that he made a “business decision” by committing to Texas.

Bond’s decision to leave Tuscaloosa comes on the heels of Crimson Tide coach Nick Saban announcing his retirement on Wednesday. Alabama settled on former Washington coach Kalen DeBoer as Saban’s replacement on Friday.

“Just like the business world, you make the best decision for your company,” Bond told ESPN in a phone interview. “My company right now is my draft stock. I feel like I’m putting myself in position to increase that and have better draft stock.”

Bond was the first Alabama player to enter the transfer portal upon Saban’s announcement. He visited Texas this weekend and committed to the staff during the visit.

“It was really a business decision,” Bond said. “I’m not taking any hatred in my heart. Nothing personal. I’m going to do what’s best for me and my family.”

Bond will always be remembered in Tuscaloosa for one of the great plays in the history of the Iron Bowl rivalry with Auburn.

On fourth-and-goal from the Auburn 31-yard line in the last minute, Bond caught a touchdown pass from Jalen Milroe in the corner of the end zone to give the Crimson Tide a stunning 27-24 win on Nov. 25.

The victory gave Alabama momentum entering the Southeastern Conference championship game, which it won by the same 27-24 score against then-No. 1 Georgia. The Crimson Tide subsequently lost to Michigan in a College Football Playoff semifinal at the Rose Bowl.

Bond, a sophomore, finished the season with 48 catches for 688 yards and four touchdowns. He had 17 receptions for 220 yards and one score as a freshman.

The Crimson Tide now have multiple vacancies in their receiving corps, as Malik Benson transferred to Florida State and Jermaine Burton declared for the NFL draft.
