Ravens TE Isaiah Likely questionable to make debut vs. Chiefs

Baltimore Ravens tight end Isaiah Likely was a full participant in practice on Friday and is questionable to make his season debut versus the host Kansas City Chiefs on Sunday.

Likely is working his way back from foot surgery, a result of a non-contact injury sustained during position drills on July 29.

Ravens head coach John Harbaugh told reporters on Friday that he hasn’t made up his mind on whether Likely will be on the field in Kansas City.

“It depends on what’s best for us and the team in terms of, we’ll watch the tape, see how his numbers look,” Harbaugh said. “It’s going to be a tough environment. He has practiced one week, but he looked really good. So is he ready to go in there, in this game against those guys and play at the top, top level and help us win the game? Or is somebody else more well-suited?

“But he could do it, looks good to me. We’ll just have to see if it’s the best thing for us on Sunday. We haven’t really decided that yet.”

Veteran tight end Mark Andrews reeled in six catches for 91 yards and two touchdowns in Baltimore’s 38-30 setback to the Detroit Lions on Monday.

Likely, 25, had 42 receptions for 477 yards and six touchdowns in 16 games (nine starts) last season for the Ravens.

He has 108 catches for 1,261 yards and 14 TDs in 49 career games (19 starts) since being selected by Baltimore in the fourth round of the 2022 NFL Draft out of Coastal Carolina.

Also on Friday, the Ravens (1-2) listed left tackle Ronnie Stanley (ankle), linebacker Kyle Van Noy (hamstring) and defensive tackle Travis Jones (knee) as questionable to face the Chiefs (1-2). All three of those players were limited in practice on Friday.

Defensive tackle Nnamdi Madubuike (neck), fullback Patrick Ricard (calf) and defensive tackle Broderick Washington (ankle) did not practice for the third straight day on Friday and have been ruled out against Kansas City.

Report: Ravens TE Isaiah Likely (foot) expected out vs. Bills

Baltimore Ravens tight end Isaiah Likely is expected to miss the season-opening game at the Buffalo Bills on Sunday night as he recovers from a broken bone in his foot, NFL Network reported on Wednesday.

Likely was injured on July 29, underwent surgery and did not practice for the rest of training camp. He was injured in a non-contact play during position drills while going one-on-one against safety Sanoussi Kane.

Ravens coach John Harbaugh had said the next day that he expected Likely to miss a few weeks of camp. The first full injury report of the season will be issued by 5 p.m. Wednesday.

Mark Andrews is listed as the starter on the depth chart, followed by Likely and Charlie Kolar.

Likely played in 16 regular-season games (nine starts) last season and caught 42 of 58 targets for 477 yards and six touchdowns. He also had seven receptions on nine targets for 126 yards and one TD in two playoff games.

He has 108 career receptions for 1,261 yards and 14 TDs in 49 regular-season games (19 starts), and another 11 catches for 176 yards and two scores in five postseason games (one start).

The Ravens selected Likely in the fourth round of the 2022 NFL Draft out of Coastal Carolina.

Ravens TE Isaiah Likely has small fracture in foot

Baltimore Ravens tight end Isaiah Likely could be ready for Week 1 if he recovers as expected from a small fracture in his foot, according to reports.

Likely was injured in a non-contact play during position drills on Tuesday while going one-on-one against safety Sanoussi Kane. He was taken off the field on a cart.

The 25-year-old is expected to miss “a few weeks,” coach John Harbaugh said.

Tests on Likely’s foot and ankle were done Tuesday and Harbaugh said the team would wait until Wednesday for full results to know “exactly what needs to be done. But it’ll be a few weeks. It’s good that it’s this early in camp.”

Likely is in the final year of his rookie contract and No. 1 tight end Mark Andrews, who also signed a contract in 2021, would also be a free agent at the end of the 2025 season if his deal isn’t extended by the Ravens.

Ravens TE Isaiah Likely (ankle) out ‘a few weeks’

Baltimore Ravens tight end Isaiah Likely injured his ankle near the end of practice on Tuesday and will be out “a few weeks,” coach John Harbaugh said.

“We’ll know more tomorrow. It’s going to be a few weeks, though,” Harbaugh said. “(Likely) rolled his ankle, foot area. We’ll get an MRI tomorrow and see exactly what needs to be done. But it’ll be a few weeks. It’s good that it’s this early in camp.”

Likely, 25, played in 16 regular-season games (nine starts) last season and caught 42 of 58 targets for 477 yards and six touchdowns. He also had seven receptions on nine targets for 126 yards and one TD in two playoff games last season.

GM non-committal on Mark Andrews’ future with Ravens

Although Baltimore Ravens general manager Eric DeCosta spoke glowingly about Mark Andrews on Tuesday, he wasn’t ready to commit to having the veteran tight end on the roster this season.

Andrews, 29, is entering the final season of his four-year, $56 million contract, however the Ravens could save $11 million against the cap by releasing or trading him.

“I never know what’s going to happen, and I would never want to say this or that, but I can tell you this: Mark Andrews is a warrior, and he’s played his butt off for us, and his competitiveness, his talent, his attitude, his leadership is so valued here,” DeCosta said. “He’s a great player, and we’re in the business of keeping as many great players as we can, so there’s always a lot of unpredictability with the draft. You just never know.”

Andrews has spent his entire career with the Ravens, however his last game was a crushing one. He dropped a pass on a two-point conversion with 1:33 remaining in the fourth quarter that would have tied the AFC divisional round game against the Buffalo Bills.

Andrews, an All-Pro who has spent seven seasons with the Ravens, finished the game with five receptions on seven targets for 61 yards. He also lost a fumble in the fourth quarter that the Bills recovered and turned into three points. That was just his second career lost fumble.

Andrews recorded 55 catches for 673 yards with a team-high 11 touchdowns in 17 games last season.

Fellow tight end Isaiah Likely, 24, set career highs last season in receptions (42), receiving yards (477) and touchdowns (six).

Ravens TE Isaiah Likely talks the talk, could draw fine

Baltimore Ravens tight end Isaiah Likely flashed star power in the season-opening loss at Kansas City, a 27-20 setback that ended with Likely’s would-be second TD catch being waved off when the toes of his black cleat landed out of the end zone.

Likely caught nine passes for 111 yards but his 10th catch was nullified when he landed out of bounds. The NFL’s leading receiver when he woke up on Friday, Likely warned the Chiefs that their collective best is yet to come.

“This is the worst we are going to play, so if this is the best they got, good luck in the postseason,” Lively said to the Ravens’ AFC rivals.

Likely, 24, might be hearing from the NFL during the extended break before the Sept. 15 home opener against the Las Vegas Raiders. When he exited the field at Arrowhead Stadium and entered the covered tunnel on Thursday night, cameras and microphones picked up Likely screaming a few choice expletives at a fan.

According to NFL Operations, fines can be levied if players fail to “conduct themselves in a way that honors the sport and respects the game, themselves, their fellow players, the fans and the league.”

Buffalo Bills defensive end Shaq Lawson was fined by the team last November for shoving an Eagles’ fan during a loss at Philadelphia despite claiming he was subject to a “life-threatening” remark.

Likely was expected to play second fiddle to Mark Andrews but after playing a larger role in the latter’s absence due to injury in 2023, he led the team with 12 targets as a receiver and delivered a highlight-worthy pancake block that drew a smile from coach John Harbaugh.

“I thought it was a touchdown,” quarterback Lamar Jackson said. “I still think it’s a touchdown.”

NFL replay is automatic after touchdowns and multiple replays caught Likely landing on the white paint separating the end zone from out of bounds.

Likely said he has to “live with the call” and took responsibility for not getting his feet down.

He also caught some unsolicited footwear advice from Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes.

“(You) just have to wear white cleats next time. That’s my advice for him,” Mahomes said.
