Report: Vikings reach two-year deal with CB Isaiah Rodgers

Cornerback Isaiah Rodgers is leaving the reigning Super Bowl champion Philadelphia Eagles, agreeing to a two-year, $15 million contract with the Minnesota Vikings, ESPN reported on Monday.

Per the report, Rodgers’ deal includes a guaranteed $8 million.

Rodgers, 27, finished his lone season in Philadelphia with 26 tackles, four passes defended and a forced fumble in 15 games (three starts).

Vikings No. 1 cornerback Byron Murphy is expected to explore free agency.

In four postseason games, he notched six tackles, four passes defended and a fumble recovery, which came in the NFC divisional-round win over the Los Angeles Rams.

A sixth-round pick of the Indianapolis Colts in the 2020 draft, Rodgers played three seasons with the Colts before sitting out the 2023 season for a violation of the NFL’s gambling policy.

In 60 games (13) over four seasons, Rodgers has 116 tackles, three interceptions, 14 passes defended, two forced fumbles and four fumble recoveries.

NFL reinstates Eagles’ Isaiah Rodgers after gambling ban

The NFL reinstated Philadelphia Eagles cornerback and kick returner Isaiah Rodgers on Tuesday after a one-year gambling suspension.

Rodgers, 26, has been cleared to participate in all team activities, effective immediately.

The Indianapolis Colts cut Rodgers following his suspension last June and he signed with the Eagles in August.

A sixth-round pick in 2020, Rodgers averaged 27.0 yards on 61 kickoff returns in 45 games with the Colts from 2020-22. He returned a kick 101 yards for a touchdown at Cleveland in Week 5 of 2020.

Following his suspension for violating the league’s gambling policy, Rodgers issued a statement acknowledging his mistakes.

“Addressing the current reports, I want to take full responsibility for my actions. I know I have made mistakes, and I am willing to do whatever it takes to repair the situation,” he posted on social media.

“The last thing I ever wanted to do was to be a distraction to the Colts organization, my coaches and my teammates. I’ve let people down that I care about. I made an error in judgment and I am going to work hard to make sure that those mistakes are rectified through this process. It’s an honor to play in the NFL and I have never taken that lightly. I am very sorry for all of this.”

Report: Gambling bans coming for multiple NFL players

Indianapolis Colts cornerback and return specialist Isaiah Rodgers is among a “handful” of NFL players expected to receive season-long suspensions for gambling, ESPN reported Wednesday.

The Colts confirmed earlier this month that one of their players was being investigated by the league for his betting activity.

“We are aware of the NFL’s investigation, and we will have no further comment at this time,” the Colts said in a statement on June 6.

SportsHandle.com reported that a Colts player was the subject of an investigation for placing “hundreds” of bets, a “considerable” number coming from inside the team’s practice facility. The player placed some bets on his own team, according to the report.

Rodgers, 25, was a sixth-round pick by the Colts in 2020. He has appeared in 45 games (10 starts) and has recorded 90 tackles, 10 passes defensed and three interceptions. He has returned 61 kickoffs, averaging 27.0 yards per return with one touchdown.

Wide receiver Calvin Ridley, then of the Atlanta Falcons, was suspended for the entire 2022 season for betting on NFL games while he was away from the team. He was traded to the Jacksonville Jaguars last fall and reinstated by the league last March.

In April, the NFL suspended five more players for violating its gambling policy. Detroit Lions receiver Quintez Cephus and safety C.J. Moore and Washington Commanders defensive end Shaka Toney were handed indefinite bans for betting on NFL games. Detroit receivers Jameson Williams and Stanley Berryhill were given six-game suspensions for betting on non-NFL events from inside an NFL facility.

Detroit has since released Cephus, Moore and Berryhill.
