Dolphins re-signing veteran OL Isaiah Wynn

The Miami Dolphins are re-signing offensive lineman Isaiah Wynn to a one-year deal, his agents confirmed Monday.

Financial terms were not disclosed by representatives Drew Rosenhaus and Shawn O’Dare.

Wynn, 28, has started 47 of his 50 games since being drafted in the first round by the New England Patriots in 2018.

He played on a one-year, $2.3 million deal with Miami in 2023 and made seven starts at left guard before sustaining a season-ending quad injury.

Dolphins place OL Isaiah Wynn on IR, activate CB Nik Needham

The Miami Dolphins placed starting left guard Isaiah Wynn on injured reserve Tuesday due to a quad injury sustained early in the loss Sunday night to the Philadelphia Eagles.

In a corresponding move, the Dolphins activated cornerback Nik Needham from the physically unable to perform list.

Wynn, 27, started all seven games at left guard in his first season with the Dolphins (5-2) after playing primarily left tackle for the New England Patriots (2018-22). He has started 47 of 50 games in his career since missing the entire 2018 campaign on IR (torn Achilles tendon in preseason) after the Patriots selected him 23rd overall in the 2018 NFL Draft out of Georgia.

He will miss a minimum of four weeks on IR.

“We are getting more information, but it does look like it will be weeks, as it wasn’t a bump or a bruise,” Dolphins coach Mike McDaniel told reporters Monday. “We’ll gather more for specificity, but it doesn’t look like we’ll be seeing him for weeks.”

Needham, 26, missed most of last season and all of this season to this point with a torn Achilles sustained in October 2022. He was designated to return to practice on Oct. 4, and the Dolphins had 21 days to activate him.

He joined the Dolphins as an undrafted free agent out of UTEP in May 2019 and has played in 51 games, starting 27. He has 192 career tackles, 25 passes defended, three sacks and six interceptions, returning one for a touchdown.

Report: OL Isaiah Wynn to sign 1-year deal with Dolphins

Free agent offensive lineman Isaiah Wynn is signing a one-year contract with the Miami Dolphins, NFL Network reported on Sunday.

Wynn, 27, has struggled to stay healthy since being selected by the New England Patriots with the 23rd overall pick of the 2018 NFL Draft out of Georgia. He missed his entire rookie season after sustaining a torn Achilles tendon in preseason.

Wynn has played in 43 games with the Patriots, including nine in 2022 before he was placed on season-ending injured reserve in December due to a foot injury.

Patriots rule out starting LT Isaiah Wynn vs. Bills

The New England Patriots on Friday downgraded starting left tackle Isaiah Wynn to out for Saturday’s playoff tilt at the AFC East champion Buffalo Bills.

Wynn (hip, ankle) did not practice Wednesday and Thursday, and was one of 13 Patriots players listed as questionable on Thursday’s injury report.

Wynn, 26, was a first-round pick in the 2018 draft. He played in 16 games in 2021, starting 15, as he was tasked with protecting rookie quarterback Mac Jones’ blind side.

He left the Patriots’ Week 18 loss to the Miami Dolphins in the first half with an ankle injury, having played only nine snaps.

Yodny Cajuste, who has two starts among seven career appearances, is listed as the Patriots’ second-string left tackle. But their options to replace Wynn also include veteran Trent Brown, who’s been starting at right tackle, and second-year lineman Michael Onwenu, who has played both guard and tackle.

Several other key New England players remain questionable for the game, including center David Andrews (shoulder), defensive lineman Christian Barmore (knee), linebacker Jamie Collins (ankle), kicker Nick Folk (knee in non-kicking leg), running back Damien Harris (hamstring) and linebacker Dont’a Hightower (knee).

Patriots place left side of O-line on COVID list

The New England Patriots placed two starting offensive linemen, left tackle Isaiah Wynn and left guard Michael Onwenu, on the COVID-19 list Tuesday.

If Wynn and Onwenu are vaccinated, they only need to return two negative tests 24 hours apart to return. The Patriots visit the Houston Texans Sunday for Week 5.

Wynn, 25, has played 22 career games (all starts) since the Patriots made him their first-round draft choice in 2018. Onwenu, 23, was a sixth-round pick in 2020 and has started all 20 of New England’s games since then, splitting time at right tackle and both guard spots.

Reports: Patriots pick up option on Isaiah Wynn, decline Sony Michel’s

The New England Patriots will pick up the fifth-year option on offensive tackle Isaiah Wynn, according to multiple reports Monday.

The Patriots selected Wynn with the No. 23 overall pick in the 2018 NFL Draft and he moved into the starting spot at left tackle the following season. A slew of injuries — a torn Achilles that cost him his rookie season, turf toe in 2019 and a knee injury in 2020 — have limited him to just 18 regular-season games in his first three seasons in the league.

The cost of the fifth-year option for Wynn, 25, is $10.41 million.

NFL Network reported that the Patriots are likely to decline the option on running back Sony Michel, Wynn’s teammate at Georgia who was selected No. 31 overall in 2018. His option is $4.52 million.

Like Wynn, Michel has faced a number of injuries since draft day.

During training camp in 2018, he had fluid drained from his knee, which forced him to miss the first game of the season, then missed two games later after twisting his knee in a game against the Chicago Bears.

In June 2019, he had a knee scope, and in 2020, he spent time on both the COVID-19 reserve list and injured reserve with a quadriceps injury.

Michel, 25, posted 900-plus rushing yards in his first two seasons but gained only 449 yards in nine games in 2020. In 38 career games, he has run for 2,292 yards and 14 touchdowns, adding 258 yards and one touchdown through the air.
