Browns release OT Jack Conklin, re-sign P Corey Bojorquez

The Cleveland Browns on Thursday released offensive tackle Jack Conklin, an All-Pro in 2016 and 2020 who frequently was sidelined by injuries the past three seasons.

The Browns also re-signed punter Corey Bojorquez, who led the NFL in punts and punting yards last season.

Conklin, 31, started all 114 regular-season games and seven playoff games in which he played in the league, but played in only eight last season, missing the last two due to a pair of concussions.

He missed 44 of a possible 101 games since signing with Cleveland to a one-year contract as a free agent in 2020. He signed a four-year, $60 million extension in December 2020 that was revised last offseason to expire after the 2025 campaign.

Conklin was voted first-team All-Pro in 2016, when he also made the NFL All-Rookie team, as well as in 2020.

Tennessee selected Conklin with the eighth overall pick of the 2016 NFL Draft out of Michigan State. He started all 57 games that he played with the Titans before signing with the Browns.

Bojorquez, 29, led the NFL last season with 91 punts and 4,165 yards, resulting in a 45.8-yard average. He also topped the league in 2024 with 89 punts, 4,387 yards and a long of 84 yards.

He owns the Browns’ single-season records for punt average (49.4 yards), net punt average (42.5), both in 2023, as well as punts inside the 20-yard line (36 in 2024).

Bojorquez has punted 546 times in his career for 25,695 yards, a 47.1 yard average and 205 punts inside the 20-yard line in 124 games for the Buffalo Bills (2018-20), Green Bay Packers (2021) and Browns.

Packers TE Tucker Kraft active; Browns RT Jack Conklin inactive

Green Bay Packers tight end Tucker Kraft and right tackle Zach Tom are expected to play in Sunday’s game against the host Cleveland Browns.

Both starters were deemed active by the Packers (2-0) after being listed as questionable on Friday’s injury report. Kraft tweaked his knee during practice on Thursday, and Tom was nursing an oblique injury after sitting out Green Bay’s 27-18 victory over the Washington Commanders on Sept. 11.

As for the Browns (0-2), right tackle Jack Conklin was deemed inactive due to an elbow injury that limited him throughout the week. Cornelius Lucas will start in place of Conklin, who was considered questionable on the Friday injury report.

Left guard Joel Bitonio, however, is expected to play despite sitting out practice all week because of a back injury.

Kraft leads the team in catches (eight), receiving yards (140) and receiving touchdowns (two). He notched his first 100-yard game with six catches for 124 yards and a score against the Commanders.

Tom has started all 35 games in which he has played over the past three seasons.

While Kraft and Tom are active, the Packers listed cornerback Kamal Hadden, offensive lineman Donovan Jennings and defensive lineman Warren Brinson as inactive.

Cleveland listed quarterback Shedeur Sanders, safety Damontae Kazee, running back Raheim Sanders, cornerback Cameron Mitchell, defensive tackle Mike Hall Jr. and guard Zak Zinter as inactive.

Browns RB Nick Chubb ruled out vs. Eagles

Cleveland Browns running back Nick Chubb has been ruled out for Sunday’s game against the host Philadelphia Eagles as he continues to work his way back from reconstructive knee surgery.

“I think he’s just building on every single day,” coach Kevin Stefanski said of Chubb, who returned to practice last week after beginning the season on the physically unable to perform list.

“I think he’s doing a nice job in the scout team. He’s doing a nice job when he gets some reps with the offense. So, he just continues to build on every single day.”

The Browns (1-4) have until Oct. 22 to activate Chubb to the 53-man roster. He is returning from multiple torn ligaments and two surgeries on his left knee, which he injured in Week 2 of last season.

Stefanski said right tackle Jack Conklin will be active for the first time this season for Cleveland’s game against Philadelphia (2-2). Conklin has been sidelined since sustaining a knee injury in the opener of the 2023 season.

Rookie defensive tackle Mike Hall Jr. will be activated after serving a five-game suspension for violating the NFL’s personal conduct policy, Stefanski said.

The Browns listed cornerback Denzel Ward (hamstring), linebackers Jordan Hicks (ankle) and Mohamoud Diabate (hip) and defensive tackle Maurice Hurst II (elbow, triceps) as questionable against the Eagles.

“I thought (Ward) looked like himself, but really need to get through the next 24-48 hours before you make a final determination there,” Stefanski said.

The Browns also ruled out safeties Grant Delpit (concussion) and Ronnie Hickman (ankle), running back Nyheim Hines (knee), tackle James Hudson III (shoulder) and center Ethan Pocic (knee).

Report: Browns RT Jack Conklin (knee) out for season

Cleveland Browns starting right tackle Jack Conklin will miss the rest of the season with a torn ACL and MCL in his right knee, ESPN reported Monday.

The two-time All-Pro was injured midway though the second quarter of Sunday’s season-opening 24-3 victory over the visiting Cincinnati Bengals.

Conklin, 29, was pass blocking and Cincinnati edge rusher Trey Hendrickson was in pursuit of quarterback Deshaun Watson when Hendrickson fell and rolled up on Conklin. He was carted off and ruled out moments later.

Conklin was replaced by 2023 fourth-round draft pick Dawand Jones out of Ohio State.

A first-round pick (eighth overall) by Tennessee in 2016, Conklin has played in 94 games (all starts) with the Titans (2016-19) and Browns.

Browns DE Myles Garrett (neck) expected to play vs. Steelers

The Cleveland Browns expect defensive end Myles Garrett and two other key contributors to play Thursday night against Pittsburgh.

Garrett (neck), right tackle Jack Conklin (knee) and guard Joel Bitonio (biceps) are all expected to play when the Browns and Steelers square off.

Garrett, an All-Pro, sat out of practice Tuesday with a neck injury and the Browns had already ruled out Jadeveon Clowney (ankle) for Week 3.

Garrett and Bitonio were hurt Sunday in the Browns’ loss to the New York Jets but finished the game.

Bitonio also missed practice on Tuesday. Conklin, another All-Pro, has yet to make his season debut as he continued to recover from a season-ending knee injury.

The Browns will be at full strength at both tackle positions for the first time this season.

Browns activate All-Pro Jack Conklin off PUP list

The Cleveland Browns activated All-Pro right tackle Jack Conklin off the physically unable to perform list Monday after recovering from a knee injury that ended his 2021 season.

Conklin played in just seven of 17 games last season due to three injuries. He missed two games with a knee injury and three more due to a dislocated elbow prior to the right patella tendon injury he sustained on Nov. 28.

Conklin, 27, has started all 79 games he’s played in since being taken No. 8 overall by the Tennessee Titans in the 2016 draft. He made All-Pro for the Titans in his rookie season and again for the Browns in 2020.

The Browns and Conklin agreed to a restructured contract in February. Conklin was slated to make $12 million in base salary in 2022, but the money was non-guaranteed. Instead, Conklin will receive $8 million fully guaranteed with $4 million in incentives based on playing time.

Also Monday, the Browns waived Isaiah Weston with an injury designation and signed fellow wide receiver Derrick Dillon.

Report: Browns restructure contract of RT Jack Conklin

Two-time All-Pro right tackle Jack Conklin and the Cleveland Browns have agreed to restructure his contract for the 2022 season, multiple outlets reported Saturday.

Conklin was slated to make $12 in base salary in 2022, but the money was non-guaranteed. Instead, Conklin will receive $8 million fully guaranteed with $4 million in incentives based on playing time.

The incentives could come into play as Conklin is recovering from a ruptured right patella tendon sustained in a Nov. 28 game against the Baltimore Ravens. He hopes to be ready for the start of the 2022 season.

The restructuring saves the Browns $4 million in salary-cap space, but it also assures that they won’t cut Conklin after June 1 and owe him nothing.

Conklin played in just seven of 17 games last season due to three injuries. He missed two games with a knee injury and three more due to a dislocated elbow prior to the patella tendon injury.

The 27-year-old has started all 79 games he’s played during six NFL seasons with the Tennessee Titans (2016-19) and Browns (2020-21). He agreed to a three-year, $42 million contract with Cleveland on March 16, 2020.

Report: Browns RT Jack Conklin (knee) out for season

Tests confirmed Monday that Cleveland Browns right tackle Jack Conklin has a torn patella tendon and will miss the rest of the season, ESPN reported.

The two-time All-Pro injured his right knee while pass blocking midway through the first quarter of Sunday night’s loss in Baltimore.

He initially attempted to walk off the field with the help of trainers, but the knee buckled and he almost fell to the turf. After being helped to the sidelines, he was carted back to the locker room.

Conklin, 27, had missed Cleveland’s previous three games while on injured reserve with a dislocated elbow.

The six-year veteran is in his second season with the Browns. He played his first four seasons with Tennessee and has started all 79 of his games in the NFL since being drafted No. 8 overall by the Titans in 2016.

Blake Hance replaced Conklin at right tackle for the Browns (6-6) during the 16-10 loss to the Ravens.
