QB Jaden Rashada transferring to Georgia

Former Arizona State quarterback Jaden Rashada has decided to transfer to Georgia.

He announced his transfer Thursday on Instagram with a photo of himself in a Georgia uniform and the message, “Compete with the BEST.”

Rashada, from Pittsburg, Calif., will have four years of eligibility remaining. 247Sports ranked him as the No. 6 quarterback in the 2023 class.

He initially was set to enroll at Florida in 2023 but when his $13 million name, image and likeness deal with the school’s collective went awry, he landed at Arizona State. His father, Harlen, played for the Sun Devils from 1992-94.

The younger Rashada announced plans to transfer last week.

As a freshman, he appeared in three games, passing for 485 yards, four touchdowns and three interceptions. He missed spring practice at Arizona State because of thumb surgery.

At Georgia, Rashada will join a quarterback room that includes incumbent starter Carson Beck, who led the Bulldogs to a 13-1 finish in 2023, and Gunner Stockton, ranked by 247Sports as the No. 7 QB in the 2022 class.

Arizona State QB Jaden Rashada entering transfer portal

Arizona State quarterback Jaden Rashada will enter the transfer portal, he announced Thursday.

Rashada posted a message on Instagram thanking his teammates, coaches, strength staff and other support staff at Arizona State.

“With that being said I’ll be entering my name in the transfer portal seeking the best fit for my career!” Rashada wrote.

Rashada is a former four-star quarterback prospect in the Class of 2023 best known for flipping his commitment from Miami to Florida — then requesting release from his national letter of intent when an NIL deal with Florida’s collective worth a reported $13 million fell through.

Rashada wound up at Arizona State and got into three games as a freshman, passing for 485 yards, four touchdowns and three interceptions. He has been out most of the spring after needing thumb surgery.

Georgia is expected to pursue Rashada, On3 and 247Sports reported.

True freshman Jaden Rashada will start at quarterback for Arizona State when the Sun Devils open their season Aug. 31 against Southern Utah, several reports said Tuesday.

Rashada beat out Notre Dame transfer QB Drew Pyne, who suffered a hamstring injury earlier this month, and Trenton Bourguet for the starting gig.

The 247Sports composite rankings rated Rashada the No. 81 overall prospect and the No. 7 quarterback in the Class of 2023, a group that included five-stars Arch Manning (Texas) and Nico Iamaleava (Tennessee).

The California native originally committed to Miami and switched his pledge to Florida, but he requested and was granted a release from his national letter of intent — reportedly after a Florida collective failed to come up with a $13 million name, image and likeness deal that Rashada was promised.

Rashada follows in the footsteps of Jayden Daniels, who also started at quarterback for Arizona State as a freshman in 2019. Daniels has since transferred to LSU and is considered a Heisman Trophy contender in 2023.

Arizona State is entering its first season under coach Kenny Dillingham. He is the full-time replacement for Herman Edwards, who was fired three games into the 2022 season.

Pyne transferred to Arizona State after three years at Notre Dame. He was the primary starter in South Bend, Ind., last season, throwing for 2,021 yards, 22 touchdowns and six interceptions.

4-star QB Jaden Rashada commits to Arizona State

Quarterback Jaden Rashada will play at Arizona State, he said Wednesday, selecting his new school after plans to play at Florida ended when a reported $13 million name, image and likeness deal didn’t materialize.

Rashada asked for, and received, his release in mid-January. It wasn’t clear Wednesday what type of NIL deal he struck at Arizona State.

He originally committed to Miami before flipping to Florida. He took official visits to those schools, as well as LSU, Texas A&M and Ole Miss, according to 247Sports. But it was believed he’d wind up at Arizona State, where his father, Harlen, played defensive back for the Sun Devils in the early 1990s.

In a tweet announcing his destination, he called Arizona State his “childhood dream school.”

Rashada is a four-star prospect from Pittsburg, Calif., had offers from programs across the country, including from 11 Pac-12 schools.

At Arizona State, he will join a packed quarterback room that includes transfers Drew Pyne from Notre Dame and Jacob Conover from Brigham Young as well as Trenton Bourguet, who started the final five games of the 2022 season.

Reports: Florida releases QB Jaden Rashada after NIL deal nixed

Jaden Rashada is free to sign with another team after he was released from his national letter of intent by Florida, multiple media outlets reported Friday.

A four-star quarterback prospect, Rashada asked for his release after a reported $13 million name, image and likeness deal fell through.

Universities in Florida are prohibited by state law from providing or arranging NIL competition, with deals instead made through third parties called collectives.

The Gator Collective terminated its agreement with Rashada on Dec. 7, The Athletic reported, adding the group hoped to sign him to a lesser deal.

Rashada, who is rated as the No. 7 quarterback in the 2023 class by the 247Sports composite, never enrolled in classes this month as planned and asked to be released earlier this week.

National Signing Day is Feb. 1. He signed with the Gators during the early signing period in December.

A California native, Rashada originally committed to Miami before flipping to Florida. He took official visits to those schools, as well as LSU, Texas A&M and Ole Miss, according to 247Sports.

With Rashada out of the picture, the Gators’ quarterback situation is muddled. Anthony Richardson started the 2022 season then declared for the NFL draft, and his backup, Jalen Kitna, was dismissed from the program after being arrested on child pornography charges.

A pair of Big Ten transfers, Graham Mertz from Wisconsin and Jack Miller III from Ohio State, are expected to compete for the starting QB job.

As for Rashada, 247Sports reported that he is scheduled to make an unofficial visit to Arizona State this weekend. His father, Harlen, played defensive back for the Sun Devils in the early 1990s.

Reports: QB Jaden Rashada asks for Florida release over NIL miss

Quarterback Jaden Rashada wants out of a commitment to Florida due to a failed Name, Image and Likeness agreement worth a reported $13 million.

Rashada originally committed to Miami in June 2022 but changed his plans to sign with Florida four days before Christmas. When an expected NIL deal with Gator Collective wasn’t formalized, per reports, Rashada didn’t enroll at the university last week.

Florida coach Billy Napier visited transfer portal option Walker Howard last week. The four-star Louisiana product left LSU after playing only two games in 2022, but he committed to Ole Miss on Wednesday.

Napier said at the Under Armour All-American Game on Jan. 3 that he expected Rashada to enroll early to join the team in January.

Rashada said on Nov. 11 before attending the Florida-South Carolina game that he was committing to Napier based on what the Gators were building.

“I have watched this season and Coach Napier and his team are building something very special in The Swamp and I want to be a part of it,” Rashada said via Twitter.

On the heels of 2022 starter Anthony Richardson declaring for the NFL draft and the dismissal of Jalen Kitna due to child pornography charges, the Gators might be left with Wisconsin transfer Graham Mertz and Jack Miller III competing this spring. Miller, a redshirt freshman, started for Florida in the Las Vegas Bowl.

Gator Collective had a binding agreement with Rashada that AP reported was worth $13 million over four years before it was canceled.

Rashada was the top recruit in Florida’s incoming class, ranked in the top 50 by most recruiting services — No. 27 at ESPN — and a top-10 quarterback.

Rashada left Gainesville to return to his home near San Francisco after opting not to register at the Jan. 13 spring deadline, his mother told 247 Sports.

Recruit Jaden Rashada flips from Miami to Florida

Four-star quarterback prospect Jaden Rashada called an audible over social media on Friday morning by agreeing to join Florida, four-plus months after committing to Miami.

Rashada is listed by 247Sports’ composite rankings as the No. 7-rated quarterback in the 2023 class. He initially selected the Hurricanes over the Gators as well as LSU, Mississippi and Texas A&M in June.

“After a lot of prayer, conversations with my family and those close to me, I have decided to change my commitment and play for the University of Florida,” Rashada wrote early Friday morning on Twitter.

“I have tremendous respect for Miami and what they are going to accomplish there, but I have watched this season and Coach (Billy) Napier and his team are building something very special in The Swamp and I want to be a part of it.”

Per Sports Illustrated, Rashada has thrown for 4,883 yards and 63 touchdowns and added 420 yards and five scores during his four-year high school career at Pittsburg (Calif.) High School.

The addition of Rashada gives Florida the No. 8 overall recruiting class for 2023, per the 247Sports rankings.
