Reports: Eagles CB Jaire Alexander steps away from football

Philadelphia Eagles cornerback Jaire Alexander has stepped away from football to focus on his mental and physical health while still recovering from offseason knee surgery, multiple outlets reported.

Alexander did not travel with the team for Monday night’s game at Green Bay and informed the Eagles of his plans on Tuesday, per reports.

On Wednesday, Alexander was placed on the reserve/retired list. The Eagles activated cornerback Jakorian Bennett from injured reserve as well.

Alexander, 28, has appeared in just two games this season. He suited up for the Baltimore Ravens in Weeks 1 and 5 before being traded to the Eagles on Nov. 1.

A two-time Pro Bowl selection in 2020 and 2022, Alexander underwent surgery on his right knee in January.

A first-round pick (18th overall) by Green Bay in 2018, Alexander has 12 interceptions, 70 passes defensed and 292 tackles in 80 career games (76 starts) with the Packers (2018-24), Ravens and Eagles.

Eagles hold CB Jaire Alexander out of matchup with Packers

Newly acquired cornerback Jaire Alexander will not play when the Philadelphia Eagles face the Green Bay Packers on Monday night, with the Eagles opting to hold him out against his former team.

Alexander, 28, has appeared in only two games this season — both with Baltimore — after undergoing knee surgery in January. The Ravens traded him to Philadelphia shortly before last week’s deadline in a pick swap.

Although Alexander was not listed on the injury report and said in recent days that his knee felt the best it had all season, the Eagles said the former All-Pro will remain in Philadelphia to continue his rehabilitation rather than travel to Green Bay, where he spent his first seven NFL seasons.

Alexander’s official designation is knee/coach’s decision.

Eagles center Cam Jurgens (knee) will also miss the “Monday Night Football” contest. Cornerback Jakorian Bennett (pectoral), guard Willie Lampkin (knee/ankle) and linebacker Nolan Smith (triceps) have questionable tags.

Packers cornerback Nate Hobbs (knee) and defensive lineman Luke Van Ness (foot) are listed as out against Philadelphia. Offensive lineman Zach Tom (back) and receivers Matthew Golden (shoulder), Dontayvion Wicks (calf) and Savion Williams (foot) are questionable.

The Eagles (6-2) will face the Packers (5-2-1) on Monday night.

Ravens trade CB Jaire Alexander to Eagles

The Baltimore Ravens are trading cornerback Jaire Alexander and a 2027 seventh-round pick to the Philadelphia Eagles in exchange for a 2026 sixth-round pick.

Alexander played the first seven seasons of his career for the Green Bay Packers, where he was a two-time Pro Bowl selection.

During the 2025 offseason, the Packers released him, and he signed a one-year contract with the Ravens.

However, Alexander has only appeared in two games this season, logging 61 total defensive snaps.

Now, the 28-year-old will get another opportunity in Philadelphia. The Eagles have posted a 6-2 record, which is tied for the best mark in the NFC.

For his career, Alexander has 292 combined tackles, 12 tackles for loss, and 12 interceptions across 80 games.

Ravens sign CB Jaire Alexander to 1-year deal

The Baltimore Ravens added former Green Bay Packers cornerback Jaire Alexander to their roster.

Alexander signed his contract on Wednesday, but the Ravens didn’t share any details. According to ESPN, it’s a one-year deal with a base value of $4 million, plus $2 million in incentives.

Multiple outlets reported he turned down other opportunities for a chance to play with Ravens quarterback Lamar Jackson, his teammate in college at Louisville.

The Packers released the two-time All-Pro cornerback on June 9 amid a contentious relationship between the two parties. The Packers were seeking to restructure his contract, frustrated over his lack of availability. Alexander, 28, appeared in just 14 games over the past two seasons combined.

He had skipped the team’s in-person, voluntary workouts this offseason but was expected to be at the mandatory minicamp but the Packers opted to let him go before the start.

Last season, he didn’t play after Week 11, contending he was injured, though he did participate in some practices. In 2023, shoulder and knee injuries — along with a one-game team suspension — that limited his availability.

The team attempted to trade him this offseason to no avail.

The Packers selected Alexander in the first round of the 2018 NFL Draft. Alexander was a second-team All-Pro and a Pro Bowl selection in both 2020 and 2022. Over seven seasons, he appeared in 78 games (76 starts) with Green Bay.

He has 12 career interceptions with a high of five in 2022. He also recorded three picks in seven playoff appearances.

Reports: Packers to release CB Jaire Alexander

The Green Bay Packers have told cornerback Jaire Alexander that he will be released, multiple outlets reported Monday.

Alexander, 28, skipped the in-person, voluntary workouts this offseason but was expected to be at the mandatory minicamp, which opens Tuesday.

A contentious relationship between the two parties continued this offseason, with the Packers seeking to restructure his contract amid frustration over his lack of availability; Alexander appeared in just 14 games over the past two seasons combined.

Last season, he didn’t play in a game after Week 11, contending he was injured, though he did participate in some practices. In 2023, it was shoulder and knee injuries — along with a one-game team suspension — that limited his availability.

The team has tried to trade him this offseason but to no avail.

“We invested a lot in Jaire and want to make sure, if he’s not gonna be on our football team helping us win games, that we get something back for that investment,” Green Bay general manager Brian Gutekunst said earlier this offseason. “So we’ll see where it goes, but again, working with (Alexander’s agent) weekly and trying to figure out what’s best for both Jaire and the Packers.”

The team selected Alexander in the first round of the 2018 NFL Draft. He has two years left on the four-year extension he signed in 2022 with a base salary of $16.15 million in 2025 and $18.15 million in 2026.

A post-June 1 release will cost the Packers more than $7.5 million in dead money but with around $17.1 million in cap savings, according to Over The Cap.

Alexander was a second-team All-Pro and a Pro Bowl selection in both 2020 and 2022. Over seven seasons, he has appeared in 78 games (76 starts).

He has 12 career interceptions with a high of five in 2022. He also has three picks in seven playoff appearances.

Report: Packers offer CB Jaire Alexander restructured deal

In an effort to resolve Jaire Alexander’s contract situation, the Green Bay Packers have proposed a restructured deal to the two-time All-Pro cornerback, The Athletic reported.

The Packers’ offer comes after the team discussed possibly trading the 28-year-old before the opening of free agency and the 2025 NFL Draft but couldn’t come to an agreement with any potential trade partner. Per the report, Alexander and his agent have yet to agree to the proposed offer.

Alexander has not attended in-person voluntary offseason work, but The Athletic reported that he plans to attend mandatory minicamp on June 10 whether or not his contract situation has been resolved. Green Bay still has the option to trade or release him before minicamp if the sides can’t come to an agreement.

Alexander has two years left on the four-year extension he signed in 2022. His base salary is $16.15 million in 2025 and $18.15 million in 2026.

If Green Bay cuts or trades Alexander with a post-June 1 designation, it would cost more than $7.5 million in dead money but with around $17.1 million in cap savings, according to Over The Cap. A pre-June 1 cut or trade would mean more than $17 million in dead money and roughly $7.6 million in savings.

Alexander was a second-team All-Pro and made the Pro Bowl in both 2020 and 2022 but injuries have forced him to miss most of three of the previous four seasons. He appeared in only four games in 2021 and seven in both 2023 and 2024.

The 18th overall pick by the Packers in 2018, Alexander has 12 career interceptions with a high of five in 2022. He also has three picks in seven playoff appearances.

Report: CB Jaire Alexander might stick with Packers

After it appeared for months that the Green Bay Packers would trade or release cornerback Jaire Alexander, ESPN reported on Tuesday that while those options still remain, the team might also keep the two-time All-Pro.

Packers general manager Brian Gutekunst said after last weekend’s draft, which saw the team select Tulane cornerback Micah Robinson in the seventh round, that Alexander’s status remains fluid.

“We’ll work through that as we go,” Gutekunst said. “But no updates there, and he is on our roster right now and that’s how we’ll proceed. But we’ll figure that out as we go along.”

Gutekunst was non-committal over whether Alexander will be in a Packers uniform this fall.

“No, I’m just saying nothing’s changed,” Gutekunst said. “No updates. We’ll proceed as we go for right now, and we’ll see how it goes.”

Alexander has two years left on the four-year extension he signed in 2022. His base salary for 2025 is $16.15 million, and in 2026 it’s $18.15 million.

If Green Bay cuts or trades Alexander with a post-June 1 designation it would cost more than $7.5 million in dead money but with around $17.1 million in cap savings, according to Over The Cap. Alexander was a second-team All-Pro and made the Pro Bowl in both 2020 and 2022 but injuries have forced him to miss most of three of the previous four seasons. He appeared in only four games in 2021 and seven in both 2023 and ‘24.

The 18th overall pick by the Packers in 2018, Alexander has 12 career interceptions with a high of five in 2022. He also has three picks in seven playoff appearances.

Report: Packers CB Jaire Alexander not close to being dealt

It’s becoming clear that cornerback Jaire Alexander won’t be on the Green Bay Packers in the 2025 season.

But whether Alexander is traded or released is still in question.

The Milwaukee Journal Sentinel reported Tuesday that Alexander isn’t close to being dealt, although Green Bay nearly traded the seven-year veteran at the start of the league year.

However, there were two problems with the trade. First, the Packers were asking too much in return. Second, Alexander wasn’t willing to take a cut in salary.

Alexander has two years left on the four-year extension he signed in 2022. His base salary for 2025 is $16.15 million, and in 2026 it’s $18.15 million.

Report: Packers open to trading star CB Jaire Alexander

The Green Bay Packers have held trade talks involving star cornerback Jaire Alexander, NFL Network reported Wednesday.

The report comes one day after Packers general manager Brian Gutekunst’s lukewarm response when asked about the team’s plans for Alexander in 2025.

“We’ll see, we’re working through that,” Gutekunst said Tuesday. “We’ll work through that as we go along.”

Alexander, who has two years remaining on his current contract, has been limited to just seven games over each of the last two seasons. He underwent knee surgery after this past campaign.

Alexander, 28, had 16 tackles and two interceptions — one returned for a touchdown — and one forced fumble in seven games in 2024.

A two-time Pro Bowler, Alexander totaled 287 tackles and 12 interceptions in 78 career games (76 starts) since being selected by the Packers with the 18th overall pick of the 2018 NFL Draft.

Reports: Packers CB Jaire Alexander undergoes knee surgery

Green Bay Packers cornerback Jaire Alexander underwent knee surgery this week to alleviate pain and swelling, multiple outlets reported Wednesday.

Alexander, 27, first tore the PCL in his right knee on Oct. 27 and had played just 10 snaps of one game since. He could return for the Super Bowl, should the playoff-bound Packers advance, per an ESPN report. Alexander had the surgery on Tuesday.

The two-time Pro Bowler had 16 tackles, two interceptions and seven passes defensed in seven starts this season.

He has 12 career interceptions in 78 games (76 starts) since being selected No. 18 overall by the Packers in the 2018 draft.

The Packers (11-5) end their regular season at home against the Chicago Bears on Sunday. The Packers need a win and a Washington loss to move up to the No. 6 seed.
