Trade denied, Raiders WR Jakobi Meyers to play ‘for teammates’

Raiders wide receiver Jakobi Meyers ran a comeback route, focusing on producing in the regular season after his trade request was denied.

Meyers said Wednesday he met with decision-makers and decided dropping his trade request for taking the field was in the best interest of everyone involved.

“I asked, they said no,” Meyers said, chuckling at the reality of the situation. “That’s where that stopped. I mean, I’m just going to keep doing my job until something shakes out either way, honestly. I don’t know which way it’s going to go, but I’ll be ready for whatever.”

Meyers said, “I ain’t tripping,” and admitted he didn’t know if the Raiders would extend a new contract offer.

Unsettled and lacking clarity, Meyers said he’s only back in the fold because of his teammates. There is no guaranteed money remaining on his deal beyond the $10.5 million base salary in 2025.

“But you’ve got to find a way to separate yourself from all the business,” he said, adding he was hopeful the Raiders would agree that he proved his worth last season. “I thought they would see it that way — they don’t.”

Meyers, 28, became the No. 1 wide receiver for the Raiders following the October 2024 trade of Davante Adams to the New York Jets. He caught 87 passes for 1,027 yards and four touchdowns.

He plans to be in the lineup when the Raiders and new head coach Pete Carroll march into the regular season against the New England Patriots on Sunday.

“It’s a job,” Meyers said. “At the end of the day, I’m happy to be doing my job with my boys, but I can be happy anywhere.”

Reports: Raiders WR Jakobi Meyers requests trade

Las Vegas wide receiver Jakobi Meyers requested to be traded but the Raiders have no plans to do so, NFL Network and ESPN reported Monday.

Meyers, who is entering the final season of a three-year, $33 million deal, reportedly initially attempted to renegotiate his contract but the two sides could not come to an agreement on new terms.

Meyers is owed $10.5 million in guaranteed salary in 2025.

Meyers met with team brass recently to request a trade, but the Raiders cited his value as a reason they have no plans to trade the 28-year-old, according to ESPN.

One of the team’s top pass catchers, Meyers had 87 receptions for 1,027 yards — both career-high marks — and four touchdowns in 15 games (all starts) last season.

Meyers, who is entering his seventh NFL season, has 393 catches for 4,592 yards and 20 touchdowns in 91 games (70 starts) with the New England Patriots (2019-2022) and Raiders.

Raiders WR Jakobi Meyers downgraded to doubtful

Already playing without star wide receiver Davante Adams, the Las Vegas Raiders aren’t likely to have counterpart Jakobi Meyers either.

Meyers, whose 25 catches and 273 yards in five games lead the team among wideouts, injured an ankle in last Sunday’s loss to the host Denver Broncos. He was limited in practice on Friday but listed as questionable, before he was downgraded to doubtful on Saturday.

Meyers, who is in his sixth NFL season, has 331 catches for 3,838 yards and 17 touchdowns in his career.

With second-year quarterback Aidan O’Connell expected to make his first start of the season on Sunday when the Raiders play host to the Pittsburgh Steelers, the most prolific wide receiver on the roster will be Tre Tucker, who has 18 receptions for 190 yards. Tucker, Adams and Meyers each has one touchdown reception.

The team added receivers Alex Bachman and Kristian Wilkerson from the practice squad on Saturday.

The Raiders (2-3) are in last place in the AFC West.

Raiders’ Davante Adams ‘good’ after hit, Jakobi Meyers improving

Las Vegas Raiders coach Josh McDaniels deemed star wide receiver Davante Adams “good” after he was on the receiving end of a helmet-to-helmet hit late in Sunday’s game.

After their 38-10 loss to the Buffalo Bills, the Raiders said Adams was being evaluated for a concussion after being drilled by Bills safety Taylor Rapp.

The Raiders were already playing without their No. 2 wide receiver, Jakobi Meyers, who entered concussion protocol after a hit to the head from the Denver Broncos’ Kareem Jackson in Week 1. McDaniels said Meyers remains in the protocol but is improving.

“Tae’s (Adams) good, Jakobi’s headed in the right direction,” McDaniels told reporters Monday.

Adams’ injury occurred on Las Vegas’ final drive of the game against the Bills. Rapp was flagged for unnecessary roughness on the play, and Adams was slow to get up before heading to the medical tent for evaluation.

Through his first two games of the season, Adams has 12 catches for 150 yards and a TD. He is in his second season with the Raiders after spending the first eight years of his NFL career with the Green Bay Packers.

Meyers signed with the Raiders this year after spending his first four NFL campaigns with the New England Patriots. He had nine receptions for 81 yards and two touchdowns in his team debut before exiting the Broncos game with his concussion.

Raiders WR Jakobi Meyers (concussion) likely to miss Week 2

Raiders wide receiver Jakobi Meyers remains in concussion protocol as Las Vegas made final preparations Friday for the Week 2 game at Buffalo.

Meyers caught two touchdowns in his first game with the team, a 17-16 victory at Denver, but hasn’t practiced this week due to the head injury suffered making a fourth-quarter catch over the middle before taking a big hit from Broncos defensive back Kareem Jackson.

Raiders coach Josh McDaniels said Friday he would consider Meyers “unlikely” to play against the Bills. He’ll officially be listed as doubtful.

Without Meyers, quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo is likely to look Davante Adams’ way more often. Meyers caught nine of Garoppolo’s 20 completions at Denver. Adams had six receptions for 66 yards.

Meyers, 26, signed with the Raiders as a free agent after playing the previous four seasons with the New England Patriots.

Raiders WR Jakobi Meyers being tested for concussion after big hit

Los Angeles Raiders receiver Jakobi Meyers departed Sunday’s 17-16 victory over the host Denver Broncos due to a probable concussion.

Meyers took a hit to the head from Denver’s Kareem Jackson after a 6-yard gain with 2:54 remaining in the contest. He was down on the turf for a few minutes and was woozy when he was eventually helped off the field by two trainers. He immediately was ruled out due to concussion protocol and went to the locker room.

Jackson drew an unnecessary roughness flag and gave the Raiders a crucial first down.

The Raiders said after the game that he was still being evaluated for a concussion. Meyers was sitting upright in the locker room, ESPN reported.

Meyers caught nine passes for 81 yards and two touchdowns in his first game for the Raiders. He was signed as a free agent in March.

Meyers spent his first four NFL seasons with the New England Patriots and caught 235 passes for 2,758 yards and eight touchdowns.

Reports: Raiders, WR Jakobi Meyers reach 3-year deal

Free agent wide receiver Jakobi Meyers has agreed a three-year, $33 million contract with $21 million guaranteed with the Las Vegas Raiders, multiple media outlets reported on Tuesday.

The reported move reunites Meyers with Raiders coach Josh McDaniels, who was his offensive coordinator with the New England Patriots from 2019-21.

Meyers would be the latest Patriots tie-in with the Raiders under McDaniels. Quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo, who spent his first three seasons in New England, reportedly agreed to a three-year, $67.5 million contract on Monday.

“It’s hard to turn down Las Vegas,” Meyers told CBS Sports. “When you look at their offense, when you look at their coaches. They wanted me, I wanted them. Unfortunately, it didn’t work out with the Patriots. I put a lot of effort in my time there.”

Meyers, 26, had 67 catches for 804 yards and a career-best six touchdowns in 14 games last season.

The undrafted Meyers has 235 receptions for 2,758 yards and eight touchdowns in 60 career games with the Patriots.

Meyers was New England’s leading wide receiver in 2021, with 83 catches and 866 yards. He signed his one-year tender worth $3.986 million, which ESPN originally reported Monday.

Meyers will become an unrestricted free agent after the 2022 season unless he reaches a long-term agreement with the Patriots. Meyers, who signed as an undrafted free agent in April 2019, has 168 catches for 1,954 yards and the two TDs in 46 games (26 starts) for the Pats.

The Patriots made two other signings Thursday: free agent wideout Lil’Jordan Humphrey and fourth-round draft pick running back Pierre Strong Jr.

Humphrey spent his first three NFL seasons with the New Orleans Saints. In 18 career games (six starts), he has hauled in 16 receptions for 295 yards and three touchdowns. Strong was selected out of FCS South Dakota State.
