Seahawks S Jamal Adams stands by potshot at reporter: ‘I went lower’

Seattle Seahawks safety Jamal Adams defended himself Thursday amid criticism of his decision to post an insult about a reporter’s wife on social media.

Even as Seahawks coach Pete Carroll expressed disapproval, Adams took umbrage with the idea that he had crossed a line with the now-deleted post on X, formerly Twitter.

“Oh, it’s always the athlete crossed the line when he responds,” Adams said Wednesday. “But at the end of the day, disrespect is disrespect. However you want to take it. So I responded. I knew when I did hit that tweet, I wasn’t in it to win it. At the end of the day, it was to get him to understand to leave me the hell alone.”

Adams allowed the game-winning touchdown pass in Seattle’s loss to the Dallas Cowboys last Thursday. A New York-based reporter who had covered Adams’ tenure with the Jets quoted a video of the play and wrote, “Yikes.”

Adams responded by posting a picture of the reporter with his wife, writing, “Yikes.”

The seventh-year pro drew blowback for the move before he deleted the post. Adams’ boss was among those who objected.

“I don’t know if it was a great decision at the time,” Carroll said. “I’m not sure about the details of it, but I know that he realized that he needed to take it down — what he had put up. We don’t want to be a part of that.”

Adams, 28, was the sixth overall draft pick by the Jets in 2017. He was a Pro Bowl selection in 2018 and 2019 before being traded to Seattle in the summer of 2020.

“It’s been personal with him and I ever since I’ve been with the Jets,” Adams said. “… I just got fed up with it, bro. It was just the end of it, and I knew this only thing right here that I was going to tweet was going to hurt him. Anything else I would have said wouldn’t have hurt him, but he got my point and he knows not to continue to mess with me.”

“I hate that I had to bring her into the situation, but at the end of the day, the ultimate goal was to get at him.”

Adams has played in just nine games the past two seasons due to a torn quad that prematurely ended his 2022 season in Week 1. He has 490 tackles, 21.5 sacks and four interceptions in 79 career games (all starts).

Adams also pushed back at a second Jets reporter who called him a “bad guy” on X in response to Adams’ initial post.

“He’s another one,” Adams said. “Do not like. … At the end of the day, hey, you responded to something that was not a part of y’all’s team and you obviously had something personal versus me. So, hey, when others go low, I went lower.”

Reports: Seahawks’ Jamal Adams fined $50K for actions toward concussion doctor

The NFL fined Seattle Seahawks safety Jamal Adams $50,000 this week for “verbal remarks” and “inappropriate physical contact” with an independent concussion doctor during Sunday’s game against the Cincinnati Bengals, CBS Sports and the Seattle Times reported.

The league sent Adams a letter saying he “interfered with orderly administration of the game when the unaffiliated neurotrauma consultant (UNC) was walking with Seahawks wide receiver Jake Bobo to the blue medical tent for evaluation of a concussion,” according to CBS Sports.

Bobo had caught a 20-yard pass in the third quarter and was hit hard by Bengals safety Dax Hill, resulting in a penalty. Bobo was evaluated and returned to the game.

The media reports said league sources indicated that Adams’ previous incident with a concussion doctor during an Oct. 2 game against the New York Giants was not a factor in the fine.

Adams sustained a concussion in that contest, his first game back since Sept. 12, 2022, when he tore his quad and was lost for that season. Appearing frustrated about being removed, he shouted at the red hat, whose sole job is to identify possible concussion injuries and get those players out of the game. Final decisions are made by the team doctors and trainers.

But after looking at video of Adams’ interaction with the doctor, as well as hearing his apology, the NFL declined to fine or otherwise punish Adams.

Adams, 28, appeared wobbly when getting up after the tackle of Giants quarterback Daniel Jones and was taken to the medical tent on the Seahawks’ sideline. Adams was taken back to the locker room for tests and subsequently ruled out for the rest of the game by the team.

Adams later apologized to the unnamed doctor via social media.

“You did everything right when you realized I was concussed, I apologize for any negative energy I brought your way,” Adams wrote on Twitter.

“Watching the replay, I am thankful for your patience knowing I wasn’t myself in that moment. You’re a real one and you serve a great purpose that benefits the NFL and so many players. Prioritizing player’s health is essential. Much respect to you.”

Report: Jamal Adams won’t be disciplined over outburst

The NFL will not discipline Seattle Seahawks safety Jamal Adams after shouting at the independent concussion doctor on the sidelines Monday night in a game against the New York Giants, ESPN reported Friday.

Adams was removed from the game for evaluation by the league’s concussion adviser after taking a knee to the helmet while tackling Giants quarterback Daniel Jones just nine defensive plays into the game.

It was Adams’ first game back since Week 1 of 2022, when he tore his quad and was lost for that season. Appearing frustrated about being removed, he voiced his displeasure with the red hat, whose sole job is to identify possible concussion injuries and get those players out of the game.

Adams was removed from the game for evaluation by the league’s concussion adviser after taking an accidental knee to the helmet from Giants quarterback Daniel Jones just nine defensive plays into the game.

It was Adams’ first game back since Week 1 of 2022, when he tore his quad and was lost for that season. He was not happy about being removed and voiced his displeasure with the red hat, whose sole job is to identify possible concussion injuries and get those players out of the game.

Seahawks S Jamal Adams ‘so ready’ for Week 4 debut

Seattle safety Jamal Adams is set to return from injury this week and make his 2023 debut against the New York Giants, Seahawks coach Pete Carroll announced Monday, adding that the three-time Pro Bowler is “jacked up and excited.”

Adams tore his quad tendon in Week 1 of the 2022 season and was just able to start practicing again, in earnest, ahead of Week 2 this season.

“He is so ready,” Carroll said Monday on his weekly radio show. “As jacked up and excited of a player as he is, we’ve just got to keep him calmed down. I’ve already started talking to him about that so he doesn’t lose his brains because he’s so fired up to play.”

The game will also mark Adams’ return to MetLife Stadium, where he played three seasons with the New York Jets until Seattle acquired him in a July 2020 trade.

Adams, 27, has 21.5 sacks and 446 tackles to go with four interceptions in 71 games (all starts) with the Jets and Seahawks. The Jets selected him No. 6 overall in the 2017 draft.

The Seahawks improved to 2-1 with a 37-27 win over the visiting Carolina Panthers on Sunday.

A three-time Pro Bowl selection, Adams has recorded 446 tackles, 21.5 sacks, four interceptions and seven forced fumbles in 71 career games with the New York Jets (2017-19) and Seahawks.

Report: Seahawks S Jamal Adams to have season-ending surgery

Seattle Seahawks safety Jamal Adams will undergo season-ending surgery to repair his torn left quad tendon, NFL Network reported on Thursday.

Per the report, Adams is debating about the timing of the surgery as well as the identity of the surgeon.

Adams limped off the field in the second quarter of Seattle’s 17-16 win over the Denver Broncos on Monday night and spent time in the medical tent before being carted to the locker room. The three-time Pro Bowl selection made three tackles and broke up a pass prior to his departure.

Josh Jones took over at safety for the Seahawks (1-0), who visit the San Francisco 49ers (0-1) on Sunday.
