Reports: Commanders signing Jamison Crowder to active roster

The Washington Commanders are signing wide receiver/punt returner Jamison Crowder to the 53-man roster after elevating him from the practice squad for Sunday’s game.

NFL Network and Sports Illustrated reported Monday that Crowder earned a spot on the active roster after returning three punts in Sunday’s win over the Arizona Cardinals. Crowder played five snaps on special teams, returning the three punts for 10 yards. He did not line up at WR.

The Commanders signed Crowder to the practice squad Wednesday.

He was a fourth-round pick by Washington in 2015.

Crowder, 30, played in Washington from 2015-18 and had three seasons with 59 or more catches before spending three seasons with the New York Jets and last year with the Buffalo Bills. He was limited to four games by injuries in 2022 and had six receptions.

He has 415 career catches for 4,667 yards and 28 touchdowns, including 14 TDs with Washington.

Report: Bills WR Jamison Crowder suffered broken ankle

Buffalo wide receiver Jamison Crowder suffered a left broken ankle in the Bills’ win over the Baltimore Ravens, NFL Network reported Monday.

Crowder is having more tests done to determine what other damage he might have incurred, per the report. He will be out indefinitely.

Crowder was on crutches and in a walking boot after Sunday’s game. He was carted off the field and his foot placed in an aircast after a punt return early in the third quarter of Buffalo’s 23-20 win over the Ravens.

He had one catch for seven yards before exiting. Crowder has six receptions for 60 yards in four games this season. He also has nine punt returns for 100 yards.

The Bills also lost wide receiver Isaiah McKenzie in the third quarter. He was ruled out for the rest of the game with a concussion. McKenzie had four catches for 21 yards and a touchdown before leaving.

McKenzie has 15 catches for 153 yards and three TDs in four starts this season.

Bills WRs Jamison Crowder, Isaiah McKenzie injured vs. Ravens

Buffalo Bills wide receivers Jamison Crowder and Isaiah McKenzie were injured during the third quarter of Sunday’s game against the host Baltimore Ravens.

Crowder was ruled doubtful to return after sustaining an ankle injury. He was carted from the sideline to the locker room early in the third quarter.

The veteran had one catch for 7 yards.

McKenzie absorbed a hit and stayed on the ground after catching an 8-yard pass over the middle with 5:04 left in the quarter. He was able to leave the field on his own, but he was eventually ruled out with a concussion.

McKenzie had four catches for 21 yards and the Bills’ only touchdown of the game at the time.

Jets WRs Jamison Crowder, Keelan Cole marked for return

The New York Jets get back two of their top wide receivers as Jamison Crowder (COVID-19) and Keelan Cole (knee) will be ready to go in Week 2.

The Jets host division rival New England in their home opener Sunday.

Crowder, 28, tested positive despite being vaccinated and was unable to return for the Jets’ season opener vs. Carolina. Crowder led the Jets in receptions (59), receiving yards (699) and touchdown catches (six) last season.

Cole, who signed a one-year deal with the Jets last March, injured his knee ahead of Week 1 and was inactive. He’ll make his Jets debut Sunday.

“Those guys do things the right way,” Jets coach Robert Saleh said Wednesday. “They’re where they’re supposed to be. They’re all gas 100 percent of the time. They’re reliable. For a quarterback, you can’t ask for much more than that. To have two more options on the field for the quarterback is priceless.”

Crowder bumps Braxton Berrios from the starting lineup. Cole will see action outside and in the slot.

Cole has 159 career receptions for 2,242 yards and 12 TDs in 64 games (23 starts), all with the Jacksonville Jaguars.

Corey Davis caught five passes for 97 yards and two touchdowns from rookie quarterback Zach Wilson last week against the Panthers.

Jets WR Jamison Crowder day-to-day with COVID

Vaccinated New York Jets wide receiver Jamison Crowder is day-to-day after testing positive for COVID-19 last week, head coach Robert Saleh said Monday.

Crowder could play in the Jets’ season-opener on Sunday against Carolina.

Saleh also said left tackle Mekhi Becton will be cleared from the concussion protocol Tuesday.

Crowder, put on reserve/COVID-19 on Friday, can rejoin the team if he returns two negative tests at least 24 hours apart, and is asymptomatic.

Crowder, 28, led the Jets in receptions (59), receiving yards (699) and touchdown catches (six) last season.

Crowder had been considered day-to-day with a groin injury ahead of his positive test.

He has 358 career catches for 4,160 yards and 26 touchdowns in 84 games (47 starts) with New York (2019-20) and Washington (2015-18), which selected him in the fourth round of the 2015 NFL Draft.

Becton left a joint practice with the Philadelphia Eagles on Aug. 24 after a head-to-head collision and was placed in the protocol. Becton, 22, was the Jets’ first-round draft pick (11th overall) in 2020 and started 13 of his 14 games as a rookie.

Report: Jets renegotiate deal with WR Jamison Crowder

The New York Jets have finalized a renegotiated deal with Jamison Crowder amid reports the team was asking the wide receiver to take a 50 percent pay cut, NFL Network reported Monday.

Terms were not reported.

Crowder was scheduled to make $10 million this season but it non-guaranteed. Crowder signed a three-year, $28 million deal with the Jets in March 2019.

Crowder did not report to organized team activities because of contract negotiations.

Crowder caught a team-leading 59 passes for 699 yards and six touchdowns in 2020, playing in 12 games (seven starts). In 2019, he played all 16 games (12 starts), putting up 833 receiving yards and six touchdowns, again leading the team in receptions with 78.

However, the Jets beefed up the receivers’ room during the offseason, signing Corey Davis (three years, $37.5 million) and Keelan Cole (one year, $5 million) and drafting Elijah Moore with the 34th overall selection.

Crowder, a fourth-round pick by Washington in 2015, turns 28 on June 17.

Jets’ Jamison Crowder missing workouts amid contract talks

New York Jets wide receiver Jamison Crowder could be an integral part of the team’s offense — if he is with the team in Week 1.

For now, Crowder is not reporting to organized team activities because of contract negotiations.

In 2020, Crowder caught a team-leading 59 passes for 699 yards and six touchdowns, playing in 12 games (seven starts). In 2019, he played all 16 games (12 starts), putting up 833 receiving yards and six touchdowns, again leading the team in receptions with 78.

He has one year left on his current deal, which would bring a $10 million base salary, but the 2021 season is not guaranteed.

Crowder, a fourth-round pick by Washington in 2015, turns 28 on June 17.

First-year Jets coach Robert Saleh said Crowder would be on the roster this fall.

“[We’re] really confident to get Jamison here quickly,” Saleh told reporters on Friday. “When we do, he definitely has a role on this team.”

The Jets beefed up the receivers’ room during the offseason, signing Corey Davis (three years, $37.5 million) and Keelan Cole (one year, $5 million) and drafting Elijah Moore with the 34th overall selection.

First-round pick Zach Wilson (No. 2 overall) is expected to win the starting quarterback job during training camp.

Jets WRs Crowder, Perriman ruled out vs. Colts

New York Jets wide receivers Jamison Crowder and Breshad Perriman have been ruled out for this weekend’s road game against the Indianapolis Colts.

Joining Crowder (hamstring) and Perriman (ankle) as inactive for the Week 3 game is right tackle George Fant, who is in concussion protocol after a collision in Wednesday’s practice.

Wideouts Chris Hogan, Braxton Berrios and Josh Malone are expected to see the majority of work against the Colts (1-1).

The Jets (0-2) enter Week 3 by averaging an NFL third-worst 187.5 passing yards per game and a league-worst 265.5 yards of total offense.

Jets’ top WR duo likely out Sunday vs. Colts

New York Jets coach Adam Gase is looking to “whoever’s got a pulse” to play wide receiver in Sunday’s game against the Indianapolis Colts.

Top wideout Jamison Crowder (hamstring) is expected to miss his second consecutive game, Breshad Perriman (ankle) didn’t practice Thursday and likely will miss at least two games, and Chris Hogan (ribs) was limited in practice, but is expected to play Sunday. Perriman was injured last week against the San Francisco 49ers.

Rookie wide receiver Denzel Mims is already on injured reserve with a hamstring injury.

“Whoever’s got a pulse right now, we’re ready to go,” Gase said Thursday.

Hogan, Braxton Berrios and Josh Malone are expected to be the starting WRs Sunday. Lawrence Cager could get a call-up from the practice squad.

Le’Veon Bell is on injured reserve, with veteran Frank Gore getting elevated at running back.

Further, right tackle George Fant is in the concussion protocol after a collision in Wednesday’s practice and center Connor McGovern (hamstring) has not practiced. Tackle Mekhi Becton (shoulder) has been limited. All three starters are questionable for the game.

As it is, the Jets enter Week 3 with the second-worst passing offense in the NFL at 394 total passing yards after two games.
