Eagles WR DeVonta Smith, S Jaquiski Tartt return to practice

Philadelphia Eagles wide receiver DeVonta Smith and safety Jaquiski Tartt returned to practice on Sunday.

Smith has been nursing a groin injury, while Tartt was away from the team dealing with an undisclosed personal matter.

Smith, 23, had 64 catches for 916 yards and five touchdowns in 17 games during his rookie season. The Heisman Trophy recipient was selected by the Eagles with the 10th overall pick of the 2021 NFL Draft out of Alabama.

Tartt, 30, totaled 66 tackles — including five for loss — and had one pass deflection in 14 games (all starts) last season with the San Francisco 49ers.

He has 367 tackles, four interceptions, two forced fumbles and two fumble recoveries in 80 career games (64 starts) with the 49ers.

49ers safety Tartt (turf toe) done for season, coach says

The turf toe injury sustained by San Francisco starting safety Jaquiski Tartt on Nov. 5 is more serious than first thought, and he won’t return this season, according to coach Kyle Shanahan.

“They’ve been a little in and out, being able to get them back in there was helping,” Shanahan said Thursday in a radio interview with KNBR, referring to Tartt and the other injured starting safety, Jimmie Ward. “Then we had that bad injury to Tartt to where he got his turf toe and nothing he could do about it, and his season’s over.”

Tartt had gone on injured reserve on Wednesday, meaning he would have to miss at least three weeks.

A second-round draft choice by the 49ers out of Samford in 2015, Tartt has dealt with several injuries. He missed two games with a groin injury before San Francisco’s 34-17 loss to Green Bay on Nov. 5.

After playing in 15 games in each of his first two seasons, he hit double digits only once since, 12 games in 2019.

In six seasons, all with the 49ers, Tartt has played 66 games, 50 as a starter. He has four interceptions, 301 tackles including 16 tackles for loss and four sacks.

He is in the final year of his contract.
