Seahawks GM: Pro Bowl OL Jason Peters to retire

Nine-time Pro Bowl offensive tackle Jason Peters is expected to retire after 19 NFL seasons, Seattle Seahawks general manager John Schneider told reporters at the NFL Scouting Combine in Indianapolis on Tuesday.

Schneider said Peters will take a job in the team’s player engagement department. Per the Seattle Times, Peters’ job title will be as a veteran mentor, working closely with the offensive linemen.

Peters, 43, signed with the Seahawks’ practice squad on Oct. 1 but did not play in a game last season.

He has played in 19 seasons since entering the NFL in 2004 after being undrafted out of Arkansas.

The two-time All-Pro previously suited up for the Buffalo Bills (2004-08), Philadelphia Eagles (2009-20), Chicago Bears (2021), Dallas Cowboys (2022) and Seahawks.

A Super Bowl champion with the Eagles during the 2017 season, Peters has started 221 of the 248 career games in which he has appeared. He was named to the Pro Football Hall of Fame’s All-Decade Team for the 2010s.

Report: Cowboys T Terence Steele tears ACL, out for season

Dallas Cowboys right tackle Terence Steele sustained a torn ACL and will miss the rest of the season, NFL Network reported Monday.

He is expected to return in time for training camp next season, per the report.

Steele was taken to the locker room just before halftime of the Cowboys’ win on Sunday over the Houston Texans. He appeared to be injured when another lineman rolled on his knee.

An MRI exam was scheduled to take place Monday.

Steele, 25, started all 13 games for the Cowboys this season and 40 of 45 since signing with the Cowboys in 2020. He was replaced by backup tackle Josh Ball, who struggled and replaced by veteran Jason Peters.

Peters, a September free agent signee, hadn’t played from the right side since 2005. The 40-year-old is in his 18th season and has spent the bulk of his career at left tackle.

“Man, I had no idea that I was gonna do that,” Peters said following the 27-23 victory. “The O-line started going down and they dressed me for a reason, so I just went in and tried to help the team out and get the win.”

Left tackle Tyron Smith, a two-time All-Pro, is getting closer to returning to the offensive line. Smith, 32, has yet to play this season following leg surgery to repair a preseason injury. He could debut Sunday when the Cowboys (10-3) visit the Jacksonville Jaguars (5-8).

Cowboys OT Jason Peters (chest) doubtful vs. Rams

Veteran offensive tackle Jason Peters is listed as doubtful and likely won’t play for the Dallas Cowboys when they visit the Los Angeles Rams on Sunday.

The Cowboys said Friday that Peters sustained a chest injury in practice and will undergo an MRI to determine the exact injury. The Cowboys signed the 40-year-old in early September to provide depth along the offensive line.

Since he missed training camp, the Cowboys have been bringing Peters along slowly. In his first game in Dallas, he played 14 snaps in Week 3 and 21 in Week 4. With the Rams up next, he would have been called on to try to keep Rams star Aaron Donald in check.

Peters, a nine-time Pro Bowl selection and two-time All-Pro, is in his 18th season. He previously played for the Buffalo Bills (2004-08), Philadelphia Eagles (2009-20) and Chicago Bears.

The Cowboys (3-1) visit the Eagles next week in an NFC East clash.

Cowboys signing OL Jason Peters to practice squad

The Dallas Cowboys plan to sign veteran offensive lineman Jason Peters to their practice squad Monday.

The widely reported move allows Peters, 40, to get into football shape.

Peters visited the Cowboys on Friday and was cleared medically.

The move is insurance should 21-year-old Tyler Smith struggle at left tackle, the position he moved to when Tyron Smith suffered a hamstring injury that will keep him out at least until December. Tyler Smith spent all of training camp competing for the job at left guard.

Peters, with 218 career NFL starts and 228 total games under his belt, could also serve as a mentor for the 2022 first-round pick at a critical position.

Peters started 15 games for the Chicago Bears in 2021 after earning nine Pro Bowl selections in 16 seasons with the Buffalo Bills (2004-08) and Philadelphia Eagles (2009-20).

Undrafted out of Arkansas in 2004, Peters won a ring with the Eagles in Super Bowl LII and was named to the NFL’s All-Decade Team for the 2010s.

The Cowboys open the season at home Sept. 11 against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

Free agent LT Jason Peters, 40, meets with Cowboys

Free agent left tackle Jason Peters met with the Dallas Cowboys on Friday.

Owner Jerry Jones said he planned to meet with the 40-year-old veteran following Peters’ physical exams.

Earlier this week, Jones insisted he was comfortable entering the season with untested 21-year-old rookie Tyler Smith at left tackle.

Peters, with 218 career NFL starts under his belt, could serve as a mentor for the 2022 first-round pick at a critical position.

Peters could also provide needed depth with veteran starter Tyron Smith on injured reserve with a knee injury.

Peters started 15 games for the Chicago Bears in 2021 after earning nine Pro Bowl selections in 16 seasons with the Buffalo Bills (2004-08) and Philadelphia Eagles (2009-20).

Undrafted out of Arkansas in 2004, Peters has started 218 of his 228 career NFL games. He won a ring with the Eagles in Super Bowl LII and was named to the NFL’s All-Decade Team for the 2010s.

The Cowboys open the season at home Sept. 11 against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

At 40, LT Jason Peters wants another chance to play

Veteran left tackle Jason Peters turned 40 in January, but he isn’t ready to turn in his retirement papers.

He started 15 games for the Chicago Bears in 2021 after earning nine Pro Bowl selections in 16 seasons with the Buffalo Bills (2004-08) and Philadelphia Eagles (2009-20).

Peters said during an interview with SiriusXM NFL Radio that he is staying in shape and waiting for a call.

“I just let my agent talk to those teams and he’ll hit me and let me know who’s interested and who’s not,” Peters said. “Looking for an upcoming offensive line, good team — or a playoff team. Either/or is good for me, because I can pass my torch on to some guys who are trying to get better, the younger guys, the new generation. Or if I get on a team with some vets, they already know how I rock, and we can just go into the playoffs and make a run and try to win another ring.

“But right now, either way is good for me because I can teach or I can sit back and listen and learn from other veterans who have played this game, too. So either way is good.”

Undrafted out of Arkansas in 2004, Peters has started 218 of his 228 career NFL games. He won a ring with the Eagles in Super Bowl LII and was named to the NFL’s All-Decade Team for the 2010s.

“Whenever the opportunity comes, I’m going to give it one more run at it and try to get me another ring, or pass on some knowledge to these young kids, up and coming,” Peters said. “But I don’t have a time frame on when I’m going to get signed. You know, last year, it was two-and-a-half weeks into training camp. So whenever the time comes, I’ll be ready.”

Bears reach deal with veteran OT Jason Peters

The Chicago Bears have agreed to terms on a contract with offensive tackle Jason Peters, his representation announced Saturday.

Elite Loyalty Sports announced the move over social media. ESPN reported Peters will sign a one-year contract.

Peters, 39, is expected to battle rookie second-round pick Teven Jenkins for the starting left tackle job. Jenkins, however, has been nursing a back injury since the start of training camp.

“It’s about familiarity with a guy that’s played in this league for a long time and has been very good,” Bears coach Matt Nagy said Saturday, per ESPN. “We understand that he’s older. There is a history with (Bears offensive line coach Juan Castillo). Juan worked with him several years ago in Philadelphia. I was also there in Philadelphia.

“For us to bring him in, he knows there is a great competition. We are trying to do everything we can to provide protection and have a great run game. I think he’s coming in here to compete to be the starting left tackle. It’s open, man. It’s a competition.”

Peters has spent the past 12 seasons with the Philadelphia Eagles. He rejoined the team prior to the start of the 2020 regular season after it appeared the Eagles were headed another direction.

Peters, a nine-time Pro Bowl selection at left tackle, signed to play guard following Brandon Brooks’ season-ending injury. He wound up back at tackle due to a series of injuries.

Eagles place LT Peters (toe) on injured reserve

The Philadelphia Eagles placed left tackle Jason Peters on injured reserve Saturday.

Coach Doug Pederson said Friday that Peters will undergo surgery on his injured toe and miss the remainder of the season.

The Eagles (3-8-1) also elevated cornerbacks Kevon Seymour and Jameson Houston and linebacker Rashad Smith from the practice squad to the active roster for Sunday’s game against the visiting New Orleans Saints (10-2).

Seymour last played in an NFL game with the Carolina Panthers in 2017. Houston and Smith are undrafted rookies from Baylor and Florida Atlantic, respectively.

Peters originally landed on IR on Oct. 3 because of the injury, then returned in the Eagles’ win over Dallas on Nov. 1. He left last Sunday’s loss to Green Bay in the third quarter.

The nine-time Pro Bowl selection signed a one-year, $3 million contract in July to play right guard after starter Brandon Brooks suffered an Achilles tendon injury. He may have played his last game in an Eagles uniform.

When the Eagles lost starting left tackle Andre Dillard to a torn biceps in September, it was reported that Peters was seeking more money to return to his old position protecting then-starter Carson Wentz’s blind side. The team restructured his deal last month.

Peters, 38, is in his 16th season in the NFL and has started 203 of his 213 career games with the Buffalo Bills (2004-08) and Eagles, earning first-team All-Pro honors in 2011 and 2013.
