Reports: RB Joe Mixon reworks deal to stay with Bengals

Instead of getting released, Cincinnati Bengals running back Joe Mixon agreed to restructure his contract to remain with the team, multiple media outlets reported on Friday.

Mixon, who signed a four-year, $48 million extension in 2020, was due to make $10.1 million this season with a $12.8 million cap hit. The revised deal frees up cash and cap room for the Bengals.

“Joe just agreed to a restructuring of his deal,” Mixon’s agent, Peter Schaffer, told NFL Network. “His goal is to win a Super Bowl and play his career in Cincinnati, and this is the best way to accomplish these goals.”

Mixon, who turns 27 on July 24, is coming off a season in which he rushed for 814 yards and seven touchdowns. The previous season, he helped the Bengals make the Super Bowl, rushing for 1,205 yards and 13 touchdowns en route to his first Pro Bowl selection.

A second-round pick of the Bengals in 2017, Mixon has 5,378 career rushing yards, an average of 4.1 yards per carry and 40 rushing touchdowns in 80 games (71 starts). He also has 10 receiving TDs and 231 catches for 1,763 yards.

Mixon pleaded not guilty to one count of aggravated menacing in April. He was charged after allegedly pointing a gun at a woman while driving.

Bengals RB Joe Mixon recharged for aggravating menacing

Bengals running back Joe Mixon is being recharged with aggravating menacing, Cincinnati police announced Friday.

An affidavit from a woman who alleged Mixon threatened her with a gun during a road rage incident on Jan. 21 initially had been filed in Hamilton County Municipal Court.

Judge Curt Kissinger told The (Cincinnati) Enquirer on Feb. 2 that he signed off on the dismissal of the aggravated menacing charge but that prosecutors have the option of refiling the charge at a later date.

“This decision (to recharge Mixon) was reached following the discovery of new evidence during the investigative process,” Cincinnati police said on Friday in a statement to the Enquirer. “To preserve a fair and impartial judicial process for all parties involved, no investigatory details or evidence will be disclosed outside of official court proceedings.”

Mixon, 26, is due to appear in court on April 19.

He completed his sixth season with the Bengals, who lost to the Kansas City Chiefs 23-20 in the AFC Championship Game. This past season, Mixon had 210 carries for 814 yards and seven touchdowns and caught 60 passes for 441 yards and two TDs.

In his six seasons, Mixon has rushed for 5,378 yards on 1,314 carries and 40 TDs, along with 231 catches for 1,763 yards and 10 scores.

The Bengals selected Mixon in the second round with the 48th overall pick of the 2017 NFL Draft. A potential first-round pick, he dropped in the draft after concerns about his character. While at Oklahoma in 2014, Mixon pleaded guilty to a misdemeanor assault charge for punching a woman in the face.

Mixon signed a four-year, $48 million extension in 2020 and was named to the Pro Bowl that season.

Bengals RB Joe Mixon won’t face charges in shooting; 2 indicted

Cincinnati Bengals running back Joe Mixon will not be indicted in a shooting that occurred near his home in Ohio, according to local officials Thursday.

Prosecutors in Hamilton County (Ohio) allege that Lamonte Brewer fired 11 shots at a teenager playing a Nerf gun game with friends in a neighboring backyard.

Brewer is listed as the boyfriend of Shalonda Mixon, Joe Mixon’s sister. He is alleged to have fired bullets from a residence belonging to Mixon, with one shot striking the victim in the foot.

Brewer was indicted on one count of assault, one count of tampering with evidence and two counts of having weapons under disability — all felonies. Shalonda Mixon faces felony indictments of tampering with evidence and obstruction of justice.

Joe Mixon was seen on surveillance footage carrying a firearm. However, he did not fire any shots and is not a suspect in the case, according to officials.

“No charges are being filed against him,” Hamilton County prosecutor Melissa Powers said at a news conference in Cincinnati. “He did not commit a crime.”

Mixon’s agent Peter Schaffer said in a statement that Mixon and his physical therapist, Sean Pena, who was also present at the time, feared for the safety of those in the home.

But Powers pushed back, saying the adults should have been able to recognize the people in the neighboring yard had toy guns rather than real ones, even with minimal daylight at the time.

“When another individual discharged a firearm, Joe interceded to stop the person discharging a firearm,” Schaffer added in a statement. “Joe hates that a young adult was injured during this incident.”

The home in question, in the Anderson Township area of greater Cincinnati, was listed as Mixon’s residence last month when a warrant was issued for him on a charge of aggravated menacing. That case was dismissed one day after the warrant was filed and Mixon, 26, was not arrested.

Mixon just completed his sixth season with the Bengals, who lost to the Kansas City Chiefs 23-20 in the AFC Championship Game.

The Bengals selected Mixon in the second round with the 48th overall pick of the 2017 NFL Draft. Mixon signed a four-year, $48 million extension in 2020 and was named to the Pro Bowl in 2021.

Police say Bengals’ Joe Mixon not a suspect in shooting

Cincinnati Bengals running back Joe Mixon is not a suspect in this week’s shooting incident at his home, according to police records.

Authorities in Hamilton County (Ohio) released an incident report Thursday regarding the events of Monday night, when a child was shot in the foot.

According to the report obtained by ESPN, children were playing a game with toy guns that shoot foam bullets in the backyard of the victim’s home when shots were fired from a neighboring residence that is tied to Mixon.

The report says an unidentified suspect fired 11 shots, with one striking the child. No charges have yet been filed.

Merlyn Shiverdecker, an attorney representing Mixon, said he expects the entire matter to be resolved soon.

“It’s my belief that this thing is probably going to be resolved by this time next week,” Shiverdecker told ESPN on Thursday.

The home in question, in the Anderson Township area of greater Cincinnati, was listed as Mixon’s residence last month when a warrant was issued for him on a charge of aggravated menacing. That case was dismissed one day after the warrant was filed and Mixon, 26, was not arrested.

Menacing charge against Bengals’ Joe Mixon dismissed

An Ohio judge dismissed an arrest warrant for Cincinnati Bengals running back Joe Mixon on Friday — at least for now.

An affadavit from a woman who alleged Mixon threatened her with a gun during a road rage incident on Jan. 21 was filed Thursday in Hamilton County Municipal Court.

Packers’ Quay Walker fined for shoving trainer

The NFL fined Green Bay Packers rookie linebacker Quay Walker $13,261 for shoving a member of the Detroit Lions’ medical staff during the teams’ regular-season finale, multiple media outlets reported Saturday.

Walker was ejected for unsportsmanlike conduct with 7:24 left in the Packers’ 20-16 loss on Sunday after he shoved Dr. T. Sean Lynch, a Lions physician, who was attending to injured running back D’Andre Swift.

It’s the second time this season Walker has been ejected. His first came on Oct. 30 when he shoved a non-uniformed player on the Buffalo Bills sideline. Walker is the only player since 2000 to get kicked out of multiple games in a season, according to ESPN.
