Reports: Bears to acquire G Jonah Jackson from Rams

The Chicago Bears are acquiring offensive lineman Jonah Jackson from the Los Angeles Rams in exchange for a sixth-round pick in the 2025 NFL Draft, according to multiple reports.

The deal cannot become official until March 12, the start of the new league year.

ESPN reported that the Bears are taking on all of Jackson’s $17.5 million salary in 2025 despite his performance in Los Angeles. Jackson dealt with a shoulder injury and was replaced in the lineup after starting four games.

He has two seasons remaining on a three-year, $51 million deal with $34 million guaranteed he signed in free agency last March. His base salary for 2026 is scheduled to be $17 million.

When Jackson arrives to Chicago, he will see a familiar face in Ben Johnson, the new head coach of the Bears. He played under Johnson in Detroit.

Jackson, 28, started all 57 games in which he played for the Lions from 2020-23, including 16 games during his Pro Bowl season in 2021.

The Rams recently re-signed left tackle Alaric Jackson, 26, to a three-year contract. Alaric Jackson entered the NFL as an undrafted free agent in 2021.

Adding a sixth-round pick from the Bears would boost the Rams’ supply of draft picks in April to seven. This would be the third 2025 sixth-round pick added via trade.

They have been mining rookie talent at a tremendous clip the past two seasons, leading the NFL in snaps played by rookie and first-year players since the start of the 2023 season. They also utilized 24 draft selections — 14 in 2023, 10 last year — during that timeframe.

Rams open practice window for Steve Avila, Jonah Jackson

The Los Angeles Rams’ revolving door on the offensive line had more movement Thursday as the team opened the practice window for starters Steve Avila and Jonah Jackson.

There is a possibility that both will be activated from injured reserve and available for Monday night’s home game against the Miami Dolphins. The news comes just as tackle Rob Havenstein was ruled out for Monday with an ankle injury.

The Rams also activated offensive lineman Joe Noteboom (ankle) from injured reserve Tuesday.

Avila, 25, played in the season-opening loss to the Detroit Lions and has been out ever since with a knee injury. Jackson, 27, agreed to a three-year, $51 million deal with Los Angeles in the offseason, but has been out since Week 3 with a shoulder injury.

Despite the upheaval on the line, the Rams’ offense has continued to improve with the team currently on a three-game winning streak after a 26-20 overtime victory over the Seattle Seahawks on Sunday. Center Beaux Limmer, a rookie out of Arkansas, has blossomed over the first half of the season.

Los Angeles opened the season 1-4 while dealing with a number of injuries, including games missed by wide receivers Puka Nacua (knee) and Cooper Kupp (ankle).

The Rams have averaged 25.3 points over its last three games after averaging 18.8 points in the first five contests.

Rams put two more on IR, but not WR Cooper Kupp

The Los Angeles Rams placed offensive lineman Jonah Jackson and safety John Johnson II on injured reserve Wednesday, but standout wide receiver Cooper Kupp remains on the active roster.

Rams head coach Sean McVay told reporters this week that Kupp will miss an extended period. Either the Rams think that’s less than four games or they’re concerned about running out of future designations; teams are allowed to designate eight players for return from IR during a season.

With the additions of Jackson and Johnson, the Rams now have nine players on IR who could return during the season.

Johnson is out 4 to 6 weeks with a fracture in his shoulder. Jackson also has a shoulder injury sustained in Week 1.

Kupp sprained his left ankle during the second quarter of the Rams’ 41-10 road loss to the Arizona Cardinals on Sunday. He has a league-high 18 receptions for 147 yards and a touchdown in two games.

In corresponding moves, the Rams signed OL Justin Dedich to the active roster from the practice squad and DB Quindell Johnson as a practice squad exemption.

The Rams have also placed guard Steve Avila, backup tackle Joe Noteboom and cornerback Darious Williams on injured reserve since the season began. Jackson had slid over from center to left guard to fill in for Avila, who sprained an MCL in Week 1.

Rams ‘running out of spots’ on IR; Cooper Kupp could be next

The injuries are piling up for the Los Angeles Rams, with star wide receiver Cooper Kupp the latest player facing a long-term absence.

Kupp sprained his left ankle during the second quarter of the Rams’ 41-10 road loss to the Arizona Cardinals on Sunday, and coach Sean McVay said Monday that Kupp would miss an “extended period of time.”

The same goes for offensive lineman Jonah Jackson and safety John Johnson III, both of whom have shoulder injuries. All three of those players are candidates for injured reserve, according to McVay, but there’s math to consider because of the NFL rule that only eight players placed on IR during the season can be designated for return.

“We’re kind of running out of spots, and we’re only into Week 3 in terms of the return to play,” McVay told reporters. “But that is a possibility for all of those guys.”

Players placed on injured reserve must miss a minimum of four games before being eligible to return.

The Rams were already without their other top receiver, Puka Nacua, who hurt a knee in Week 1 and went on injured reserve.

Kupp took over in that game — a 26-20 overtime loss to the Detroit Lions — and caught 14 passes on a whopping 21 targets for 110 yards and a touchdown. He had four catches for 37 yards early in the Arizona game before he came up limping.

The 2021 NFL Offensive Player of the Year, when he notched the receiving triple crown (145 receptions, 1,947 yards and 16 touchdowns), Kupp has been one of the most productive receivers in the NFL in recent years — when healthy. He only played in nine games in 2022 due to a high ankle sprain and missed five games last season with a hamstring issue.

The Rams have also placed guard Steve Avila, backup tackle Joe Noteboom and cornerback Darious Williams on injured reserve since the season began. Jackson had slid over from center to left guard to fill in for Avila, who sprained an MCL in Week 1.

McVay added that kicker Joshua Karty has a “mild” groin injury that will lead the Rams to keep him out of practice during this week, but he should be ready to face the San Francisco 49ers in Week 3.

Reports: Rams land G Jonah Jackson, TE Colby Parkinson

The Los Angeles Rams reached agreement on three-year deals for interior offensive lineman Jonah Jackson and tight end Colby Parkinson, ESPN and NFL Network reported Monday.

The Rams lured Jackson away from Detroit on a deal worth $51 million, including $34 million guaranteed, according to NFL Network.

Parkinson comes over from Seattle on a deal worth $22.5 million, including $15.5 million guaranteed, per ESPN.

Jackson, 27, started all 57 games he played in with the Lions since they selected him in the third round of the 2020 draft.

The Rams also re-signed guard Kevin Dotson last week on a reported three-year deal worth $48 million.

Parkinson, 25, caught 25 passes for 247 yards and two touchdowns in 17 games (one start) for Seattle last season, playing behind Noah Fant and Will Dissly.

The Rams add Parkinson less than two months after Tyler Higbee tore multiple ligaments in his right knee in the divisional playoff loss at Detroit.

Higbee signed a two-year extension worth $27 million — $17 million guaranteed — last September but head coach Sean McVay said he is likely a candidate for the physically unable to perform list to start next season.

Parkinson has 57 career catches and four TDs in 54 games (four starts).

Report: Lions G Jonah Jackson has knee surgery

Detroit Lions left guard Jonah Jackson underwent surgery to repair a “slight” meniscus tear,” ESPN reported Monday.

The four-year starter is expected to miss Sunday’s NFC title game but could return for the Super Bowl if the Lions get past the host San Francisco 49ers.

Jackson, 26, injured his knee during Sunday’s 31-23 divisional playoff win against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and was replaced by Kayode Awosika.

Jackson started 12 games during the 2023 regular season and has started all 57 of his appearances since Detroit drafted him in the third round in 2020.
