Report: Browns LB Carson Schwesinger has high ankle sprain

Testing confirmed a high ankle sprain for Cleveland Browns rookie linebacker Carson Schwesinger, ESPN reported Monday.

Schwesinger, who leads Cleveland with 64 tackles, was injured during Sunday’s setback at New England and could be sidelined for four or more weeks. He was wearing a boot on his right leg after the game.

Coach Kevin Stefanski said rookie running back Quinshon Judkins is day-to-day with a shoulder injury (AC joint sprain) that also forced him to leave the game early.

Judkins, who turns 22 on Wednesday, has rushed for 486 yards and five touchdowns and added 12 catches for 60 yards in seven games (all starts) this season. He had nine carries for 19 yards on Sunday.

Schwesinger, 22, recorded his first career interception and five tackles in the 32-13 loss to the Patriots. The injury occurred midway through the fourth quarter when teammate Isaiah McGuire appeared to roll into his leg.

Schwesinger has started all eight games for the Browns (2-6), adding one sack, three QB hits and four tackles for loss.

Schwesinger (33rd) and Judkins (36th) were both drafted in the second round this year.

The Browns have a bye this week.

Buffalo Bills wide receiver Joshua Palmer gets held by Baltimore Ravens cornerback Jaire Alexander while trying to catch the pass during the second half of their game against the Baltimore Ravens at Highmark Stadium in Orchard Park on Sept. 7, 2025. The Ravens received a penalty for the pass interference.

Ravens CB Jaire Alexander inactive vs. Browns

Baltimore Ravens cornerback Jaire Alexander was listed as inactive for Sunday’s game against the visiting Cleveland Browns.

Alexander, who was dealing with a knee injury during training camp, struggled in the Ravens’ 41-40 season-opening loss to the Buffalo Bills last Sunday. He was a limited participant in Wednesday’s practice due to a knee injury, however he did not carry an injury designation into this game.

“Practice is important, especially at that position, for just being exactly right,” Ravens coach John Harbaugh said Wednesday. “The main thing right now is just to get him right. He’s healthy enough, but we have to get him right so (he) can go out there and play like Jaire Alexander, which I fully expect him to do. We’ll just give him an opportunity to do that.”

Alexander, a two-time Pro Bowl selection, signed a one-year, $4 million contract, plus incentives, with Baltimore this summer after being released by the Green Bay Packers.

In addition to Alexander, the Ravens listed the following players as inactive: running back Keaton Mitchell, fullback Patrick Ricard, tight end Isaiah Likely, offensive tackle Carson Vinson and linebacker David Ojabo.

As for the Browns (0-1), rookie running back Quinshon Judkins is available to make his NFL debut.

An early second-round pick in this year’s draft, Judkins signed his four-year, $11.4 million rookie contract on Sept. 6 after an investigation into an alleged domestic violence incident in July in Fort Lauderdale, Fla.

Judkins was accused of punching a woman in the face, arm and thigh, but prosecutors announced in August that they would not be moving forward with the case.

He was listed as questionable to play against the Ravens after participating in practice on both Thursday and Friday.

Judkins, 21, rushed for 1,060 yards and 14 touchdowns and caught 22 passes for 161 yards and two TDs in 16 games last season as Ohio State won the College Football Playoff national championship.

Cleveland listed rookie quarterback Shedeur Sanders, offensive tackle Jack Conklin, running back Raheim Sanders, defensive tackle Mike Hall Jr. and guard Zak Zinter as inactive against the Ravens.

Browns GM: ‘Increasingly unlikely’ Nick Chubb returns to team

Cleveland Browns general manager Andrew Berry didn’t sound too optimistic about unsigned star running back Nick Chubb making an immediate return to the club.

The writing likely was on the wall when the Browns selected Ohio State running back Quinshon Judkins in the second round of the 2025 NFL Draft and Tennessee rusher Dylan Sampson in the fourth. They also recently renegotiated the contract of fellow running back Jerome Ford.

“I wouldn’t rule anything out, but I would say it’s probably increasingly unlikely,” Berry told 92.3 The Fan on Friday morning. “I’d say maybe a return is less likely, at least in the short term, with us right now.”

Berry added that “we haven’t necessarily been in strong communication after the draft.”

Chubb, 29, has played in only 10 games over the past two seasons due to knee and foot injuries. He rushed for 332 yards and three scores in eight starts in 2024.

A four-time Pro Bowl selection and four-time 1,000-yard rusher, Chubb ranks third in franchise history with 6,843 rushing yards behind Pro Football Hall of Fame members Jim Brown and Leroy Kelly.

Judkins led the national champion Buckeyes with 1,060 yards and 14 rushing touchdowns last season.

Sampson, the Southeastern Conference Offensive Player of the Year last year, set school single-season records for rushing yards (1,491) and touchdowns (22).

Ford, 25, rushed for 565 yards and three touchdowns in 14 games (six starts) last season, adding 37 catches for 225 yards.

He has 1,390 rushing yards, 544 receiving yards and 12 touchdowns in 44 games (18 starts) since the Browns picked him in the fifth round of the 2022 NFL Draft.

All-SEC RB Quinshon Judkins commits to Ohio State

Two-time All-SEC running back Quinshon Judkins committed to Ohio State.

A transfer from Ole Miss, Judkins rushed for 2,725 yards and scored 34 total touchdowns in two seasons with the Rebels.

He’ll bring significant punch to an overhauled Ohio State backfield that includes a new starting quarterback and incoming freshman All-American running back James Peoples, who enrolled this semester.

Judkins made the announcement as Michigan was wrapping up the national championship on Monday night, and the motive was clear.

“I’m extremely excited to join The Ohio State football program. I’m looking forward to being a part of a winning culture and helping do my part to beat the TUN and bring a Big 10 Championship and National Championship to Columbus,” he said.

Quarterback Will Howard transferred from Kansas State and gives the Buckeyes experience at the controls of the offense.

Kyle McCord started every game for Ohio State in 2023 but transferred to Syracuse at the end of the season.

All-SEC RB, Ole Miss TD machine Quinshon Judkins to transfer

All-SEC running back and Ole Miss touchdown machine Quinshon Judkins reportedly informed the coaching staff he plans to enter the transfer portal.

Judkins would be one of the most coveted players available, but he could still return to Ole Miss even after officially starting the transfer process.

He totaled more than 3,000 yards from scrimmage and scored 15-plus touchdowns in each of his first two seasons, posting 34 total scores in 2022 and 2023, a claim no player in the SEC could make since Hershel Walker at Georgia.

The Alabama native strongly considered Notre Dame before landing in Oxford and his departure was unexpected. Judkins was with the Rebels and rushed for 106 yards against Penn State’s No. 1-ranked run defense in the Peach Bowl.

Judkins led the SEC in rushing each of his two seasons at Ole Miss. He gained 1,567 yards as a freshman and 1,158 yards with 15 touchdowns yards in 13 games in 2023.

Momentum had been flowing in a positive direction for Ole Miss after signing a top-20 recruiting class and making major waves in the transfer portal.

Judkins was considered a centerpiece on the 2024 roster with most of the noteworthy contributors on offense committed to return to the Rebels. Quarterback Jaxson Dart, tight end Caden Prieskorn and wide receivers Tre Harris and Jordan Watkins all said during Peach Bowl preparations they’d be back in 2024.
