Reports: Colorado QB Kaidon Salter to start vs. Wyoming

Colorado Buffaloes quarterback Kaidon Salter has regained his starting role for Saturday’s home game against the Wyoming Cowboys, according to multiple reports on Wednesday.

Salter, a senior transfer from Liberty, started the Buffaloes’ first two games but lost his job to third-string sophomore Ryan Staub for last Friday’s game at Houston, a 36-20 setback which dropped Colorado to 1-2.

Head coach Deion Sanders, who also inserted true freshman Julian Lewis in the mix, said Tuesday that he had made a decision for the game against Wyoming (2-1) but didn’t reveal it.

Sanders was asked what he needed from the quarterback position.

“Leadership and consistency,” Sanders said Tuesday. “That’s it. That ain’t much to ask for, is it?”

Salter is 30-of-44 passing (68.2 percent) for 261 yards and one touchdown. He has added 67 yards and two TDs on 21 carries.

Staub, who provided a spark in the second half of the 31-7 home victory over Delaware, is 26 of 45 (57.8 percent) for 362 yards, three touchdowns and two interceptions. He has rushed 13 times for 34 yards.

Lewis, who also played against Delaware, has completed two of four passes for 8 yards and rushed twice for minus-7 yards.

Blue-chip QB Julian Lewis commits to Colorado

Colorado coach Deion Sanders has filled his pending vacant roster spot at quarterback with Julian Lewis, a top-10 prospect in the Class of 2025.

Lewis is ranked No. 6 at the quarterback position by the 247Sports composite. Over the weekend, he decommitted from Southern California, to which he gave his verbal pledge in August 2023, and on Thursday announced his new destination on “The Pat McAfee Show.”

Lewis, from Carrollton (Ga.) High School, also considered offers from schools including Georgia, Indiana and Auburn before committing to the Buffaloes.

The 6-foot-1 quarterback earlier reclassified from the 2026 class. Last week, he went over 10,000 career passing yards in high school.

Colorado’s current starting quarterback, Shedeur Sanders, is expected to be the first quarterback selected in the 2025 NFL Draft. And Lewis said he welcomes the chance to compete to replace the coach’s son.

“Coach Prime always says that the best players are gonna play and I wanna come in and compete,” Lewis told McAfee. “I wouldn’t have much fun sitting on the bench and I wanted to come somewhere that I have a chance to play.”

Five-star QBs Julian Lewis, Husan Longstreet change college commitments

In an apparent ripple effect in the college football recruiting cycle, quarterback Julian Lewis decommitted from Southern California, according to multiple reports, and fellow five-star Husan Longstreet announced he has flipped from Texas A&M to the Trojans on Sunday afternoon.

Lewis, who had verbally committed to USC in August 2023, is a senior at Carrollton (Ga.) High School after reclassifying from the Class of 2026. Lewis is ranked second in the ESPN 300 for the Class of 2025, while the No. 31 player in the country, No. 5 quarterback and No. 6 player in Georgia, according to the 247Sports composite rankings.

He took an unofficial visit to Georgia on Saturday, watching the Bulldogs beat Tennessee, and Lewis also visited Colorado on Oct. 26. Indiana also has gotten his interest.

Longstreet, who had committed to Texas A&M in April, announced on social media Sunday that he will play for in-state USC. The senior at Centennial High in Corona, is the No. 34 player, No. 6 QB and second-ranked player in California, according to the 247Sports Composite.

The No. 47 player in the 2025 ESPN Top 300, Longstreet and his team won a state playoff game on Friday night with Trojans quarterbacks coach Luke Huard in attendance. Longstreet then attended USC’s home game in Los Angeles against Nebraska on Saturday.

The early signing period begins on Dec. 4.

USC flips 5-star Georgia commit Justus Terry, adds to 2025 class

Southern California landed commitments from two prized 2025 defensive line prospects on Sunday.

Five-star Justus Terry, who committed to his home-state Georgia on Jan. 16, 2023, flipped his allegiance to USC. Also selecting the Trojans on Sunday was four-star recruit Isaiah Gibson.

Terry is ranked as the nation’s No. 2 defensive lineman by the 247Sports composite. Gibson is slotted as the No. 8 edge rusher.

Coach Lincoln Riley’s 2025 class now has three commits, with Julian Lewis — the No. 4-ranked quarterback — the other. All three are from Georgia.

Terry, from Manchester, Ga., visited Los Angeles this weekend. He told 247Sports that his decision to decommit from Georgia was a “no-brainer,” citing both coaching and USC’s business school among his reasons.

“Coming from a small town, I wanted to expand my life as much as possible, and I felt like USC is the right place to do that,” he said.

Top football recruit to start USC early, reclassifying to Class of ’25

The top high school football player in the class of 2026 intends to start college a year early, according to ESPN on Tuesday.

Quarterback Julian Lewis out of Carrollton High School in Georgia told ESPN he plans to reclassify to enter college as part of the class of 2025.

“Since I was 7 years old, one of my goals has been to play Division I football,” Lewis told ESPN. “Through hard work and sacrifice that goal has become a reality. I have been blessed to have two good seasons under Coach Joey King and I have confidence that after this coming season I will be ready to compete at the next level.

“So, after much prayer and talking with my family, coaches and trainers I will be reclassifying to the class of 2025.”

Lewis committed to USC in August after many other top programs recruited him, including the likes of Alabama, Georgia, Texas and Oregon.

As part of the Class of 2025, Lewis ranks as the No. 14 overall prospect in the country with a 10.12 Y/A and 25 career wins, according to 247Sports.
