Report: Browns RB Kareem Hunt requests trade; team says no
Cleveland Browns running back Kareem Hunt has requested a trade but the team told him he won’t be dealt, Cleveland.com reported Sunday.
Hunt, who turned 27 on Saturday, sat out the past two days of team drills and wants his contract reworked. According to the report, he is taking part in individual drills only as part of his stand.
The Browns signed Hunt to a one-year deal in February 2019, giving him a second chance in the NFL. The Kansas City Chiefs cut him the previous November after a video surfaced of an incident that showed him shoving and kicking a woman in an altercation.
Hunt later apologized and called his conduct “wrong and inexcusable.”
The NFL suspended him for the first eight games of the 2019 season.
Hunt is playing this season on the second year of a two-year contract worth up to $13.25 million if incentives are met.
Last season, Hunt played in eight games (one start), losing time to injuries and COVID-19. He ran for 386 yards and five touchdowns on 78 carries and added 174 yards on 22 catches.
Hunt was a Pro Bowl selection in his rookie season for the Chiefs, when he carried the ball 272 times for a league-leading 1,327 yards and scored eight times. He added 455 receiving yards and three touchdowns.
In 32 games (nine starts) with the Browns, he has 2,169 yards from scrimmage and 19 touchdowns.
The Browns have strength at the running back position, with established starter Nick Chubb, D’Ernest Johnson and rookie Jerome Ford among the players in camp.

Browns RB Kareem Hunt, CB Troy Hill out for Week 15
The Cleveland Browns will likely be without running back Kareem Hunt and cornerback Troy Hill for their Week 15 game against the Las Vegas Raiders.
Browns coach Kevin Stefanski said Monday that both players are considered week to week.
Hunt suffered an ankle injury in the first half of Sunday’s 24-22 win over Baltimore. He played just 13 snaps. Hill played most of the game before leaving with a knee injury. He had seven tackles — three for loss — in 63 defensive snaps.
Hill has 49 tackles — seven for loss — in 12 games (four starts) this season, his first in Cleveland. Hunt had just returned in Week 12 after missing five games with a calf injury. Hunt has 386 yards rushing and five touchdowns on the season.
Stefanski also said kicker Chase McLaughlin would keep his job despite missing at least one field goal in four straight games in which he has attempted at least one. He’s 15 of 20 on the season and has missed just one extra point try.
The Browns improved to 7-6 with the win over the Ravens on Sunday. They sit in the eighth spot in the AFC playoff race and are just one game behind the Ravens in the AFC North.
The Browns host the Raiders (6-7) on Saturday.

Browns activate RB Kareem Hunt, RT Jack Conklin from IR
The Cleveland Browns activated running back Kareem Hunt and right tackle Jack Conklin from injured reserve on Saturday.
Coach Kevin Stefanski said Friday that he expects Hunt and Conklin will play Sunday night against the Baltimore Ravens.
Hunt has missed the past five games with a calf injury. Conklin has missed the past three games with a dislocated elbow.
“Getting the boys back together,” quarterback Baker Mayfield said earlier this week. “We’re obviously looking forward to it. … It’ll be great. Those are two extremely key pieces in our offense, and obviously Kareem is a great playmaker and Jack, his play speaks for itself.”
Hunt, 26, was carted off in the fourth quarter against the Arizona Cardinals on Oct. 17 with a non-contact injury. He has 361 yards rushing with five touchdowns on the season.
Conklin, 27, was injured Oct. 31 against the Pittsburgh Steelers. He has started all 78 games in his career with the Tennessee Titans (2016-19) and Browns. The 2016 first-round pick was an All-Pro first team selection in 2016 and 2020.

Offensive coordinator Alex Van Pelt said Friday morning that Mayfield had a strong practice on Thursday and that the quarterback is heading in the right direction.

Browns RB Kareem Hunt (calf) out several weeks
Cleveland Browns running back Kareem Hunt and linebacker Jeremiah Owusu-Koramoah are out several weeks after sustaining injuries in Sunday’s game.
Hunt is expected to land on injured reserve and miss 4-6 weeks, per NFL Network. The same could be in store for Owusu-Koramoah.
Browns coach Kevin Stefanski said Monday the team is still determining the outlook for quarterback Baker Mayfield and wide receiver Odell Beckham Jr.
Hunt, 26, was carted off in the fourth quarter against the Arizona Cardinals with a non-contact injury. Hunt started in place of Pro Bowl running back Nick Chubb, who missed the game with a calf injury. Hunt was listed on the injury report last week with a calf injury and missed a practice.
Hunt had 14 carries for 66 yards and three catches for 12 yards before leaving. He has 361 yards rushing with five touchdowns on the season.
Owusu-Koramoah left Sunday’s loss with an ankle injury. Owusu-Koramoah was diagnosed with a high ankle sprain, per NFL Network, an injury that generally takes 4-6 weeks. He was credited with eight tackles and a pass defensed before leaving.
Mayfield landed on his left (non-throwing) shoulder on a strip-sack in the third quarter. He was already playing with a partially torn labrum in that shoulder.
After two brief visits to the medical tent, Mayfield returned to the field, but with the game out of reach, he was pulled for the final five minutes and backup Case Keenum finished the game.
Beckham (shoulder) was screaming in pain on the sideline after being driven into the turf by two Cardinal defenders following a 17-yard reception. He finished the first half with two catches for 42 yards.
The Browns (3-3) have a quick turnaround with a game against the Denver Broncos (3-3) on Thursday in Cleveland.

Browns DEs Myles Garrett, Jadeveon Clowney return to practice
Cleveland’s extensive injury report improved a bit Thursday as Myles Garrett and Jadeveon Clowney returned to practice, but the Browns were still without their backfield.
Garrett (knee, ankle) and Clowney (elbow, knee) were listed as limited in practice. Defensive end Takk McKinley (ankle, knee) also returned in limited fashion. Clowney missed the team’s Week 5 game.
Tight end David Njoku (knee) was also able to participate.
However, running backs Nick Chubb (calf) and Kareem Hunt (wrist, knee) both missed their second consecutive practice. Offensive linemen JC Tretter (knee), Jack Conklin (knee) and Jedrick Wills Jr. (ankle) also missed. Chubb is second in the NFL in rushing with 523 yards while Hunt has 295, good for 16th in the league.
Wills did practice Wednesday.
Browns offensive coordinator Alex Van Pelt said Thursday he’s “not really sure” if Wills and Conklin, the starting tackles, would be able to play.
“Hopefully we can get them out (to practice) later in the week, but if not, it’s next-man-up mentality for us,” Van Pelt said.
Cornerbacks Denzel Ward (neck), Greg Newsome II (calf) and Greedy Williams (shoulder) all practiced Thursday but were limited.
The Browns (3-2) host the unbeaten Arizona Cardinals (5-0) on Sunday.

Nick Chubb, Kareem Hunt among battered Browns to miss practice
The Browns opened the week black and blue as their primary backfield and edge rushers were among a host of Cleveland players who missed practice Wednesday with injuries.
Both Nick Chubb (calf) and backup Kareem Hunt (wrist, knee) missed practice, as did defensive ends Myles Garrett (knee, ankle) and Jadeveon Clowney (elbow, knee). Clowney did not play in Week 5.
Also missing Wednesday were center J.C. Tretter (knee) and right tackle Jack Conklin (knee), defensive end Takk McKinley (ankle, knee), tight end David Njoku (knee) and linebacker Malcolm Smith (abdomen).
Garrett (NFL-high seven sacks) missed two practices last week but played against the Los Angeles Chargers.
Chubb is second in the NFL in rushing with 523 yards while Hunt has 295, good for 16th in the league.
