Chiefs rule out WR Watkins vs. Bills; put G Osemele on IR

Kansas City Chiefs wide receiver Sammy Watkins and left guard Kelechi Osemele have been ruled out for Monday’s game against the host Buffalo Bills.

Watkins, 27, is nursing a hamstring injury while Osemele tore tendons in both knees during Sunday’s 40-32 loss against the Las Vegas Raiders. Osemele was placed on injured reserve, the team announced Saturday.

In five games this season, Watkins has 21 catches for 222 yards and two touchdowns. He has eight receiving scores in two-plus seasons with the Chiefs and 33 career receiving touchdowns in 81 games with the Chiefs, Los Angeles Rams and Bills.

Osemele, 31, started all five games this season and has made 101 career starts in nine seasons with the Baltimore Ravens, the then-Oakland Raiders, New York Jets and Kansas City.

Mike Remmers, a veteran who made 14 starts for the New York Giants last season, replaced Osemele in last week’s game versus the Raiders.

Offensive tackle Mitchell Schwartz (back) is questionable for Monday’s game for the Chiefs (4-1).

Buffalo ruled out tight end Dawson Knox, who is nursing a calf injury. Knox, 23, has six receptions for 93 yards in four games this season.

Cornerback Tre’Davious White (back), linebacker Matt Milano (pectoral), wide receiver John Brown (knee) and guard Quinton Spain (foot) are listed as questionable for the Bills (4-1).

Chiefs OL Osemele tears tendons in both knees

Kansas City Chiefs left guard Kelechi Osemele tore tendons in both knees during Sunday’s loss against the Las Vegas Raiders, coach Andy Reid said.

Osemele, 31, was carted off the field in the first half of the Chiefs’ 40-32 loss at home. He was replaced by Mike Remmers, a veteran who made 14 starts for the New York Giants last season.

The Chiefs signed Osemele to a 1-year deal during the offseason. He started all five games this season and has made 101 career starts in nine seasons with the Baltimore Ravens, the then-Oakland Raiders, New York Jets and Kansas City.

Osemele was the Ravens’ second-round pick (No. 60 overall) out of Iowa State in 2012.

Remmers, also 31, is a capable backup. He entered the weekend with 79 career starts during a career that has spanned seven teams.
