Eagles promote Kevin Patullo to OC

The Philadelphia Eagles promoted passing game coordinator Kevin Patullo to offensive coordinator on Wednesday.

Patullo, 43, joined the Eagles as passing game coordinator in 2021 and added the title of associate head coach in 2023.

He replaces Kellen Moore, who was named head coach of the New Orleans Saints last week after one season as the team’s OC and a Super Bowl title.

The Eagles generated 367.2 yards of offense in 2024 — eighth in the NFL — and were second in rushing (179.3 yards per game) behind Saquon Barkley and his 2,005 rushing yards.

Patullo is set to enter his 16th season coaching in the NFL, all on offense, and primarily working with wide receivers and quarterbacks.

“Very important to the success that we’ve had. He wears a lot of different hats. Helps me a lot with different head coaching things,” Eagles head coach Nick Sirianni said of Patullo during Super Bowl week. “I can’t tell you that I make a decision without saying to Kevin first, ‘What do you think?’ That’s in everything. That’s in-game, out of game, with scheduling, that’s with offensive stuff, that’s with game-management stuff, I lean on him a lot.”

The Eagles moved fast to replace Patullo, hiring Parks Frazier as their passing game coordinator, per multiple reports.

Frazier, 33, was on the Miami Dolphins staff in 2024 as an offensive assistant and was the passing game coordinator for the Carolina Panthers in 2023.

His NFL coaching career began in 2018 when he was hired as assistant to the head coach with the Indianapolis Colts.

Kellen Moore set to call plays, cites leadership with Saints

Kellen Moore was non-committal on several topics during his introductory press conference as the new head coach of the New Orleans Saints on Thursday — save for one.

Moore said that he would be responsible for calling the team’s plays on offense. Perhaps that should come as no surprise since he left Dallas in 2023 when then-head coach Mike McCarthy took over the play calling.

As for his starting quarterback, roster decisions or the timing of naming his offensive and defensive coordinators, those answers will come at another time.

Moore likely is catching his breath after a whirlwind start to his week.

The then-offensive coordinator of the Philadelphia Eagles helped his team to a decisive 40-22 victory over the Kansas City Chiefs in Super Bowl LIX on Sunday in New Orleans.

Two days later, the Saints hired the 36-year-old Moore as the youngest head coach in the NFL. He effectively replaced Dennis Allen, who was fired in November after a 2-7 start to the 2024 season.

On Thursday, Saints owner Gayle Benson informed Moore of just how committed she is to putting him in the best possible position toward getting him back on the league’s grandest stage.

“Kellen, you have my full commitment to doing whatever it takes to deliver another Lombardi Trophy to our city,” Benson said.

Benson also lauded Moore as “exceptionally bright, creative and a tremendous leader.” She added that Moore has “been a winner in every stage of his career.”

Moore addressed the elephant in the room on Thursday when asked about taking over a team with the worst salary cap situation in the NFL. The team is projected to be $54.1 million over the cap.

“Certainly, the opportunity to go through the interview process allows us to have those conversations,” Moore said. “The leadership here is tremendous. They’re the best in the business from the business side of this operation, and we feel very comfortable with where we’re going.”

Where Moore immediately is going is back to Philadelphia — well, for the championship parade on Friday. Moore said he’s all-in after that for the Saints.

Moore praised Derek Carr on multiple occasions but stopped short of naming the veteran as his starting quarterback for the upcoming season.

“Derek is a tremendous quarterback in this league,” Moore said. “I have had so much respect for him, the journey he’s been on. He’s a starter in this league. He’s a premier player in this league. He’s had a great journey.

“I’m really excited to team up with him and go through this process — just like any player on this roster. I just got here a few days ago, and I’m excited to go through this journey with all of them.”

Carr, 33, is scheduled to receive a $10 million roster bonus in March and $30 million for the upcoming season, per Spotrac. He reportedly is not willing to take a pay cut.

Moore also addressed the Saints’ need for offensive and defensive coordinators, saying that he wants to hire the right staff and do it the right way. He did not have a date by which he felt he needed to get that done.

Saints general manager Mickey Loomis said he’s happy that Moore is in the fold after the comprehensive process.

“It took longer than we anticipated — simply because the Eagles kept winning,” Loomis said.

Saints make it official, hire Kellen Moore as head coach

The New Orleans Saints officially hired Kellen Moore on Tuesday as the 19th head coach in franchise history.

Moore is two days removed from helping the Philadelphia Eagles record a 40-22 victory over the Kansas City Chiefs in Super Bowl LIX in New Orleans. He was the Eagles’ offensive coordinator.

At 35, Moore becomes the youngest head coach in the NFL. He effectively replaced Dennis Allen, who was fired in November after a 2-7 start to the 2024 season.

The hiring of Moore also filled the NFL’s last available head-coaching position. There were seven openings shortly following the conclusion of the regular season.

“At the start of the interview process, it was important to find a head coach who was the right fit for the New Orleans Saints organization,” Saints owner Gayle Benson said. “Through the search process, it became clear that Kellen is the right person to help us re-establish a winning program and culture that our fans are accustomed to and have come to expect. I would also like to thank Darren Rizzi for his service as interim coach and leading our team this past season. I am truly grateful to him.”

Said Moore: “I am excited to join the New Orleans Saints and deeply appreciate the faith that Mrs. Benson and the entire Saints organization have placed in me. I look forward to embracing the challenges ahead and am eager to get started. I would also like to thank the Philadelphia Eagles for an incredible 2024 season. I’m excited to begin this new chapter.”

ESPN reported that new chapter may begin with Moore bringing in former Los Angeles Chargers head coach Brandon Staley as his defensive coordinator. Staley is considered a leading candidate to join Moore, who was the Chargers’ offensive coordinator under Staley in 2023.

A record-setting quarterback at Boise State, Moore was a backup quarterback with the Detroit Lions (2012-14) and Dallas Cowboys (2015-17). After six seasons in the NFL, Moore transitioned to coaching, first as the quarterbacks coach of the Cowboys (2018) and then as offensive coordinator (2019-22).

When then-head coach Mike McCarthy took over the play calling in 2023, Moore exited Dallas and became offensive coordinator with the Los Angeles Chargers before joining the Eagles in 2024.

The Eagles generated 367.2 yards of offense in 2024 — eighth in the NFL — and were second in rushing (179.3 yards per game) behind Saquon Barkley and his 2,005 rushing yards.

Moore won’t have the luxury of an impact player like Barkley in New Orleans, which is $54.1 million over the salary cap, per Over The Cap, and faces roster questions and decisions on both sides of the ball.

“I would like to welcome Kellen Moore and his family to New Orleans,” Saints general manager Mickey Loomis said. “He is an outstanding communicator with the ability to lead people and has a clear vision for this football team. Through this head coaching search, we had the opportunity to meet with several impressive candidates and I thank them for their hard work and preparation in this process.”

Reports: Saints to name Eagles OC Kellen Moore head coach

The New Orleans Saints will name Kellen Moore as their next head coach, multiple outlets reported Sunday.

Moore has one piece of unfinished business before he’s free to take the job: the Super Bowl. Moore is the offensive coordinator of the Philadelphia Eagles, who will meet the Kansas City Chiefs in Super Bowl LIX on Sunday night in New Orleans.

The Saints are replacing Dennis Allen, who was fired in November after a 2-7 start to the 2024 season. They are one of seven teams that had a vacancy at head coach; the other six jobs have been filled.

At 35, Moore will become the youngest head coach in the NFL, once the deal is official. It will be his first head-coaching role.

Report: Saints set to hire Eagles OC Kellen Moore as head coach

The last head coaching vacancy in the NFL will be filled after the Super Bowl, as the New Orleans Saints plan to hire Philadelphia Eagles offensive coordinator Kellen Moore, per an ESPN report on Saturday night.

Moore, 36, has never been a head coach, but in his lone season guiding Philadelphia’s offense, the Eagles ranked eighth in total offense (367.2 yards per game) and second in rushing (179.3).

Moore interviewed twice with the Saints in January, emerging as the leading candidate for the job. On Sunday, he will be in New Orleans on the Eagles’ sideline when they face the Kansas City Chiefs in Super Bowl LIX at Caesars Superdome.

“There’s certainly a great opportunity. I think the big thing is really getting to know people,” Moore said earlier this week, referring to the New Orleans opening. “Certainly there’s philosophies and things that there’s going to be questions about, but I think it’s an excellent opportunity just to get face-to-face and get to know the people. And get to know the interactions and see the fit that it may be.”

To avoid breaking any rules, the Saints won’t try to finalize any deal until after the Super Bowl but expect it will go smoothly, per ESPN’s report.

Philadelphia is Moore’s third stop as an NFL offensive coordinator, following stints with the Dallas Cowboys (2019-22) and Los Angeles Chargers (2023). The former six-year NFL quarterback would have his hands full turning around a New Orleans team that finished tied for last in the NFC South at 5-12 in 2024.

New Orleans fired head coach Dennis Allen nine games in, and interim coach Darren Rizzi went 3-5 the rest of the season.

Marching in: Eagles’ Kellen Moore set for long-term residency in New Orleans

NEW ORLEANS — One final victory is up for grabs before this NFL season comes to a close on Sunday night.

The New Orleans Saints are the lone team without a head coach, and Philadelphia Eagles offensive coordinator Kellen Moore is set to fill a role he’s never held at any level of football.

“I’m going to lead by example. I believe (I will) lead the way I’ve always led,” Moore said. “Certainly in different roles, it dictates certain things you have to do. You understand that as you go through this journey and so I’ve been fortunate enough to be around some of the best in the business to learn and grow from.

“Lead your way. I think as long as you’re authentic and you’re real and you’re consistent with who you are, guys will respect that.”

Moore, 35, relocated every offseason for the past three years, bouncing from offensive coordinator of the Dallas Cowboys to the Los Angeles Chargers before Eagles coach Nick Sirianni hired him and forfeited play-calling duties in Philadelphia.

“Hopefully I’ve done my job to teach him like other coaches have helped me,” Sirianni said. “He’s very detail-oriented. He’s a good communicator. He’s great person to work with. I think we hit home runs with both (coordinator) hires.”

Players said Moore’s unique perspective as a former NFL quarterback — a backup with the Detroit Lions and Cowboys from 2012-17 — is evident in his approach. He’s quick to listen and cedes control to players. Eagles running back Saquon Barkley said the offensive thinktank of Sirianni, Moore, quarterback Jalen Hurts and other position coaches is a collaboration that invites buy-in from everyone who wants a voice.

“I think when the players feel like they have some ownership, they’re a part of the process, I think it’s excellent,” Moore said. “Hopefully those guys are out there making plays, and when they have conviction about something, usually they’re going to find a way to make it work.”

The next opportunity in New Orleans is the Super Bowl. The bigger opportunity arrives Monday, but Moore isn’t ready to discuss becoming head coach of the Saints.

“There’s certainly a great opportunity. I think the big thing is really getting to know people,” Moore said of the New Orleans opening. “Certainly there’s philosophies and things that there’s going to be questions about, but I think it’s an excellent opportunity just to get face-to-face and get to know the people. And get to know the interactions and see the fit that it may be.”

Report: Saints to interview Kellen Moore again post-Super Bowl

Saints general manager Mickey Loomis informed other coaching candidates Friday that the team plans to continue discussions with Philadelphia Eagles offensive coordinator Kellen Moore after Super Bowl LIX in New Orleans, NFL Network reported.

Per league rules, Moore cannot meet with the Saints again or officially be hired until after the game against the Kansas City Chiefs on Feb. 9.

The Saints are currently the only NFL team without a head coach after firing Dennis Allen in November following a 2-7 start. New Orleans went 3-5 under interim coach Darren Rizzi.

Per reports, New York Giants offensive coordinator Mike Kafka and Miami Dolphins defensive coordinator Anthony Weaver both have interviewed with the Saints on two occasions.

Moore, 35, was the offensive coordinator for the Dallas Cowboys (2019-22) and Los Angeles Chargers (2023) before moving to the Eagles this season.

In his first season with Philadelphia, Moore helped the Eagles to a No. 2 seed in the NFC playoffs behind a rushing attack that ranked second in the league with 179.3 yards per game.

Report: Saints latest team to interview Eagles OC Kellen Moore

Philadelphia Eagles offensive coordinator Kellen Moore was set to interview with the New Orleans Saints on Saturday for their head coaching job, NFL Network reported.

It would be Moore’s third interview in two days, as well as the Saints’ third interview in the same time period.

Moore, 35, met with the Dallas Cowboys and Jacksonville Jaguars on Friday, per reports.

Moore was the offensive coordinator for the Cowboys (2019-22) and Los Angeles Chargers (2023) before moving to the Eagles this season.

In his first season with Philadelphia, Moore helped the Eagles to a No. 2 seed in the NFC playoffs behind a rushing attack that ranked second in the league with 179.3 yards per game.

Moore was a former star quarterback at Boise State.

He isn’t the only candidate in New Orleans.

On Friday, the Saints interviewed Darren Rizzi in person. Rizzi, 54, took over as interim coach of the Saints following the firing of Dennis Allen and was 3-5 in eight games.

Before his promotion, he was assistant head coach and special teams coordinator for the Saints, whom he joined in 2018 following 10 seasons with the Miami Dolphins.

New Orleans also interviewed Buffalo Bills offensive coordinator Joe Brady virtually on Friday. Brady, 35, began his NFL coaching career in New Orleans as an offensive assistant from 2017-18, moved on to a season at LSU and then became the offensive coordinator of the Carolina Panthers (2020-21) before being hired by Buffalo.

Report: Saints request interview with Eagles OC Kellen Moore

The New Orleans Saints have requested an interview with Philadelphia Eagles offensive coordinator Kellen Moore for their vacant head coaching position, NFL Network reported Monday.

In his first season with the Eagles, Moore helped the Eagles to a No. 2 seed in the NFC playoffs as Philadelphia finished second in the NFL with 179.3 rushing yards per game.

Moore, 36, was the offensive coordinator for the Dallas Cowboys (2019-22) and Los Angeles Chargers (2023) before moving to the Eagles this season.

A former star quarterback at Boise State, he played three games (two starts) with the Cowboys in 2015.

New Orleans fired Dennis Allen after Week 9 and promoted Darren Rizzi to interim head coach. The team went 3-5 the rest of the way to finish 5-12.

Because the Eagles are active in the playoffs, Moore could be available for a virtual interview as early as next week, according to the report.

Reports: Eagles expected to tab Kellen Moore as OC

Kellen Moore reportedly will be working with an NFC East team once again.

The Philadelphia Eagles are hiring Moore as their offensive coordinator, multiple media outlets reported Saturday night. Moore spent last season with the Los Angeles Chargers after working the previous five with the Dallas Cowboys, including four seasons as their offensive coordinator (2019-22).

The Chargers struggled last season en route to seeing head coach Brandon Staley fired on Dec. 15. Under the 34-year-old Moore, the team finished 18th in total offense (329.4 yards per game) and 21st in scoring offense (20.4 points per game) in 2023.

The Eagles confirmed offensive coordinator Brian Johnson and defensive coordinator Sean Desai were fired at a season-ending news conference. The reigning NFC champions ended the season on a 1-6 skid, capped by a 32-9 defeat at the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in an NFC wild-card round game on Jan. 15.

Philadelphia started the season 10-1 and was in position to fight the San Francisco 49ers for the top seed in the conference. Until the wheels fell off.

Johnson came under fire as star quarterback Jalen Hurts’ performance dipped in the second half of the season. Hurts finished with a career-high 15 interceptions for the Eagles, who ranked seventh in the NFL in points per game (25.5) and 16th in passing offense (225.5).

The Eagles hired Vic Fangio as their defensive coordinator.
