Jets sign UFL K Harrison Mevis, release K Anders Carlson

The New York Jets signed UFL standout Harrison Mevis and released fellow kicker Anders Carlson on Wednesday.

Mevis, 23, played for the Birmingham Stallions in 2025 and made 20 of 21 field goals, with a long of 56 yards.

Dubbed the “Thiccer Kicker” for his burly frame, Mevis set the school record at Missouri with 405 career points.

The 5-foot-11, 243-pound All-American made 84.0 percent (89 of 106) of his field goals and 148 of 149 PATs for the Tigers from 2020-23.

His career-long 61-yard field goal as time expired gave Mizzou a 30-27 upset of No. 15 Kansas State in 2023.

Mevis signed with the Carolina Panthers as an undrafted free agent in May 2024 but was waived in August.

Carlson, 27, kicked in five games for the Jets in 2024 and made 8 of 10 field goals and 9 of 11 extra points.

A sixth-round pick by Green Bay in 2023, Carlson has converted 40 of 48 field goals and 46 of 54 PATs in 24 career games with the Packers, San Francisco 49ers (2024) and Jets.

Commanders sign K Austin Seibert

The Washington Commanders signed kicker Austin Seibert to a contract on Tuesday.

The move comes one day after fellow kicker Cade York was released. York missed two field goals and saw a kickoff sail out of bounds during Washington’s 37-20 loss at the Tampa Bay Buccaneers on Sunday.

York’s release came three weeks after the Commanders traded a conditional seventh-round pick to the Cleveland Browns for the second-year kicker.

“I think it just really goes to show we have really high standards,” Commanders coach Dan Quinn said at his Monday press conference.

Seibert, 27, has made 45 of 56 field-goal attempts in 31 career games with the Browns (2019-20), Cincinnati Bengals (2020), Detroit Lions (2021-22) and New York Jets (2023).

Also on Tuesday, Washington signed rookie offensive tackle Anim Dankwah to its practice squad.

The Commanders host the New York Giants (0-1) on Sunday.

Eagles, K Jake Elliott agree to 4-year extension

The Philadelphia Eagles and All-Pro kicker Jake Elliott agreed to a four-year contract extension through the 2028 season.

While the team announced the extension on Wednesday, no financial details were disclosed. ESPN valued the deal at $24 million, which at $6 million per year would tie Elliott with Ravens kicker Justin Tucker for the highest-paid kicker in NFL history.

On Tuesday, the Eagles agreed to contract extensions with long snapper Rick Lovato and punter Braden Mann.

Elliott, 29, set the franchise record in 2023 for single-season field goal percentage at 93.8 (30 of 32), field goals of more than 50 yards (seven), and points (135).

He enters the 2024 season riding a streak of 15 consecutive made field goals, including the playoffs.

The Cincinnati Bengals picked Elliott in the fifth round of the 2017 NFL Draft and released him that September. He was promptly picked up by the Eagles and has appeared in 113 games with Philadelphia.

He has a career-long field goal of 61 yards and has connected on 86.2 percent (168 of 195) of field goal attempts and 95.8 percent (271 of 283) of his point-after tries.

Report: K Mason Crosby works out with Rams

Longtime Green Bay Packers kicker Mason Crosby was part of a group working out for the Los Angeles Rams on Wednesday, NFL Network reported.

The Rams released Brett Maher on Tuesday, two days after he missed two field goals and an extra-point attempt in a 24-17 loss to the Pittsburgh Steelers.

Los Angeles signed kicker Lucas Havrisik off the Cleveland Browns’ practice squad Tuesday, but the 24-year-old has never appeared in a regular-season game.

Crosby, 39, kicked for the Packers from 2007-22. He is the venerable franchise’s all-time leading scorer (1,918 points) and ranks 13th in NFL history with 395 made field goals.

Last season, Crosby converted 25 of 29 field goals and 37 of 39 PATs in 17 games. He made at least one field goal of 50-plus yards in each of his 16 seasons with Green Bay.

Report: 49ers signing K Matthew Wright

The San Francisco 49ers are signing veteran kicker Matthew Wright to the practice squad, ESPN reported Thursday.

Injuries to rookie third-round pick Jake Moody (quad) and Zane Gonzalez (calf) prompted the move.

The 49ers aren’t sure if Moody will be ready for the Sept. 10 season opener at Pittsburgh, and Wright provides insurance.

Wright, who was in camp with the Carolina Panthers this summer, has kicked in 23 NFL games.

He began his career with the Steelers in 2020 and rejoined them for four games last season.

Wright, 27, has connected on 40 of 46 field goals and 35 of 37 extra points with the Steelers, Jacksonville Jaguars (2021) and Kansas City Chiefs (2022).

The 49ers placed Gonzalez on injured reserve on Tuesday, meaning he will miss at least the first four games.

Report: 49ers K Robbie Gould to test free agency

San Francisco 49ers kicker Robbie Gould will test free agency and sign with another team for the upcoming season, ESPN reported.

Gould, 40, is scheduled to become an unrestricted free agent on March 15.

He joined the 49ers prior to the 2017 season after one campaign with the New York Giants.

Gould made 27 of 32 field-goal attempts last season and 50 of 51 extra-point tries in 17 games last season.

He has converted 447 of 517 field-goal attempts and 620 of 636 extra-point tries during his 18-season career with the Chicago Bears (2005-15), Giants and 49ers. He was named a first-team All-Pro and selected to the Pro Bowl in 2006.

Lions cut K Austin Seibert

The Detroit Lions on Friday waived kicker Austin Seibert, who has been dealing with a groin injury.

While the Lions didn’t announce another move at the position, Michael Badgely is expected to kick for the Lions (1-3) on Sunday at the New England Patriots (1-3).

After trying out kickers on Tuesday, the Lions signed Badgely and placed him on the practice squad.

Badgely kicked for the Bears on Sunday and was released on Monday. He was 4-for-4 on field goal attempts and accounted for all of Chicago’s points in a 20-12 loss to the New York Giants.

Badgely was a short-term answer for the Bears with Chicago kicker Cairo Santos out to tend to a personal matter.

With Seibert sidelined last Sunday, kicker Dominik Eberle made his Lions debut. Eberle missed two of his four extra-point attempts and sent a kickoff out of bounds in a 48-45 loss to the Seattle Seahawks.

Seibert, a fifth-round pick of the Cleveland Browns in 2019, has made 44 of 53 field goal attempts and converted 55 of 61 extra point tries in 30 games with the Browns, Lions and Cincinnati Bengals.

Vanderbilt women’s soccer player ‘an option’ at kicker

Vanderbilt women’s soccer player Sarah Fuller could be lending a hand, or more appropriately a foot, to the school’s football team.

Commodores football coach Derek Mason said Fuller is an option when discussing the team’s need for a kicker on 102.5 The Game in Nashville on Wednesday. Vanderbilt currently finds itself in need of a kicker due to COVID-19 quarantines.

“For us, talking to Sarah, she’s a champ, and no pun intended — just coming off an SEC championship in soccer,” Mason said. “… She’s a complete competitor. She’s an option for us. Right now, that’s where we sit.”

The Vanderbilt Hustler, the school’s student newspaper, first reported that Fuller was in full pads when she participated in Tuesday’s practice with the football team.

Should she play for Vanderbilt (0-7 overall, 0-7 Southeastern Conference) in Saturday’s game at Missouri (3-3, 3-3), it is believed that Fuller will be the first woman to record a snap in a Power 5 game. New Mexico’s Katie Hnida was the first woman to play in a Division I college football game in 2003.

Fuller, a goalkeeper, posted a 7-2-0 record and allowed nine goals in nine matches this season for the Vanderbilt women’s soccer team.
