Report: Saints RB Mark Ingram (knee) likely out rest of season

New Orleans Saints running back Mark Ingram sustained a slight tear of his right MCL and likely will miss the rest of the season, NFL Network reported Wednesday.

The injury doesn’t require surgery but Ingram is expected to miss 4-6 weeks, per the report. Five weeks remain in the regular season.

The injury occurred on a play with 6:11 remaining in the fourth quarter of Monday night’s final-second loss to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. Coach Dennis Allen said Ingram stepped out of bounds on the key play, instead of trying to run for a first down, due to his knee.

Ingram, 32, sustained a sprain of the same MCL on Oct. 30 in a 24-0 win over the Las Vegas Raiders and missed the next three games.

In his 12th season, Ingram was selected by the Saints with the No. 28 overall pick in the 2011 NFL Draft. He played in 33 games with the Baltimore Ravens and Houston Texans before returning to New Orleans in a trade in October 2021.

This season, Ingram has carried the ball 62 times for 233 yards and a touchdown. He’s also caught 16 passes for 68 yards.

In his career, the former Heisman Trophy winner has gained 10,236 total yards with 75 touchdowns in 156 games (100 starts).

The Saints (4-9) have a bye this weekend.

Colts RB Deon Jackson (knee) injured vs. Patriots

Indianapolis Colts running back Deon Jackson exited Sunday’s game against the host New England Patriots in the third quarter with an apparent knee injury.

Jackson caught an 8-yard pass and was pushed out of bounds, where he remained on the ground and was seen grabbing at his left knee. He came out of the game, but was doing sprints along the sideline shortly after.

With Jonathan Taylor sidelined due to an ankle injury, Jackson drew the start against New England. He rushed 10 times for 23 yards prior to exiting while adding a pair of catches for 13 yards.

Phillip Lindsay and Jordan Wilkins are the only two other active running backs on Indianapolis’ roster.

Patriots WR Jakobi Meyers (knee) ruled out vs. Packers

New England Patriots wide receiver Jakobi Meyers will miss Sunday’s game at Green Bay with a knee injury.

The Patriots (1-2) downgraded Meyers from questionable to out on Saturday for the Week 4 showdown with the Packers (2-1).

Meyers, 25, also sat out last weekend’s 37-26 loss to the Baltimore Ravens.

He has 13 catches for 150 yards with no touchdowns in two games this season, and 181 receptions for 2,104 yards and two scores in 48 games (28 starts) over four seasons with New England.

The Patriots previously ruled out quarterback Mac Jones (ankle), offensive lineman Yodny Cajuste (thumb) and defensive lineman Lawrence Guy (shoulder).

Bengals QB Joe Burrow won’t need surgery for MCL sprain

Cincinnati Bengals quarterback Joe Burrow will not require surgery for the MCL sprain sustained in Sunday’s Super Bowl LVI defeat, coach Zac Taylor said Wednesday.

Burrow was limping noticeably after being sacked for the seventh time with 11:38 left in the fourth quarter of the 23-20 loss to the Los Angeles Rams in Inglewood, Calif.

“Joe had the sprained MCL, and that’s really a re-aggravation of something he did back in December,” Taylor said. “But he’s a tough guy, he played through it. Rest is going to be the best thing for him. So that part’s encouraging. So, again, he’s going to get some much-needed rest here these next couple of weeks and expect him to come back fully healthy.”

Taylor also said Burrow won’t need surgery for the pinky finger he dislocated late in the season.

Burrow, 25, completed 22 of 33 passes for 263 yards with one touchdown and no interceptions against the Rams.

The 2021 NFL Comeback Player of the Year completed a league-best 70.4 percent of his passes for 4,611 yards, 34 touchdowns and 14 interceptions during the regular season.

49ers shut down LT Trent Williams with knee issue

Trent Williams is being shut down for the rest of the week by the San Francisco 49ers after the highest-paid offensive tackle in the NFL needed fluid drained from around his ailing knee.

Williams, 33, is set to be evaluated early next week, head coach Kyle Shanahan said Thursday.

Williams was an unrestricted free agent in the offseason but re-signed with the 49ers. The six-year deal worth up to $138.1 million reportedly included a $30.1 million signing bonus and $55.1 million guaranteed.

The eight-time Pro Bowl selection was acquired by the 49ers from the Washington Football Team after sitting out the entire 2019 season in what Williams said was a health-related contract situation.

He played 14 games for the 49ers last season and has played in 134 games (133 starts) in his career.

Shanahan also said wide receiver Jalen Hurd will join Williams on the sideline for the week because he’s fighting knee tendinitis related to recovery from his torn ACL.

Reports: Panthers QB Bridgewater avoids major knee injury

Carolina Panthers quarterback Teddy Bridgewater is day-to-day with a sprained right MCL, NFL Network reported Monday.

Bridgewater sustained the knee injury in the fourth quarter of Sunday’s 46-23 loss to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. He avoided major structural damage and will be limited in practice this week, per multiple reports.

He completed 18 of 24 passes for 136 yards and two touchdowns and rushed three times for 16 yards and a score against the Bucs.

This is Bridgewater’s first season as a full-time starter since he suffered a major knee injury in the 2016 preseason as a member of the Minnesota Vikings.

Bridgewater, 28, has passed for 2,552 yards with 13 touchdowns and seven interceptions for the 3-7 Panthers this season.

If Bridgewater can’t go, Carolina’s backups are P.J. Walker and Will Grier.

The team will also be without All-Pro running back Christian McCaffrey (shoulder) this week when the Panthers host the Detroit Lions.

Browns’ Garrett (knee) not expected to miss games

Cleveland defensive end Myles Garrett, who played most of the Browns’ Sunday game hampered by a sore knee, does not have any structural damage to the joint, coach Kevin Stefanski announced Monday.

Garrett should be ready for the Browns’ home game against the Houston Texans on Nov. 15. The Browns, who fell to 5-3 with a 16-6 home loss to the Las Vegas Raiders on Sunday, have a bye this week.

An MRI on Monday showed no damage to Garrett’s knee, according to Stefanski.

“It’s obvious how much of an impact he makes in these games … we dodged a bullet,” Stefanski said. “We just need him to come back Wednesday and see if he’s ready to practice. If he’s not, we’ll have a few days to rest and get ready to roll next week.”

Garrett, whose nine sacks leave him tied with the Los Angeles Rams’ Aaron Donald for the league lead, said he hurt the knee in the second quarter. He left the game briefly, then returned but was not on field for all of the Browns’ defensive snaps.

The top pick in the 2017 draft, Garrett has four forced fumbles this season, also tied for first in the NFL.

Chargers S James out for 2020 after knee surgery

Los Angeles Chargers safety Derwin James underwent successful surgery to repair a meniscus tear in his right knee and will be placed on the injured reserve list.

“James is expected to make a full recovery and be ready for the start of the 2021 season,” the team announced on social media Tuesday.

James, 24, sustained the injury in practice on Sunday and surgery was performed Monday.

A first-round pick (17th overall) in 2018, James was a first-team All-Pro and a Pro Bowl selection as a rookie after registering 105 tackles, 13 passes defensed, 3.5 sacks and three interceptions in 16 starts.

He missed most of last season due to a broken right foot, returning for the final five games but registering no sacks and no interceptions.

Georgia WR Blaylock to miss season with knee injury

Georgia wide receiver Dominick Blaylock will miss the upcoming season with a knee injury that requires surgery, the school announced.

Multiple outlets reported that the 6-foot-1 sophomore tore his left ACL in practice Wednesday, the same knee he injured in the SEC Championship game against LSU last December.

Blaylock appeared in 12 of the Bulldogs’ 14 games as a freshman in 2019. He caught 18 passes for 310 yards and five touchdowns.

Blaylock, the son of former NBA All-Star Mookie Blaylock, was a four-star recruit in the Class of 2019 out of Walton High School in Marietta, Ga. He was ranked as the No. 5 receiver and the No. 36 overall prospect by the 247 Sports Composite.

Ranked No. 4 in the Associated Press Top 25 preseason poll, Georgia is scheduled to open the season on Sept. 26 at Arkansas.
