Report: Eagles OL Lane Johnson having surgery this week

Philadelphia Eagles offensive tackle Lane Johnson will undergo surgery later this week to repair the torn adductor he’s been playing with for more than a month, ESPN reported Monday.

He put off the procedure so that he could play in the postseason.

Johnson, who first suffered the injury in Week 16, played every offensive snap in Sunday’s Super Bowl loss to the Kansas City Chiefs. He played 96 percent and 81 percent of the snaps in Philly’s first two postseason games as well.

Johnson, 32, missed the final two games of the regular season.

Johnson earned his second All-Pro nod and fourth Pro Bowl selection this season.

Johnson has not allowed a sack since Week 11 of the 2020 season.

Including 15 starts this season, he has started 127 regular-season games since Philadelphia drafted him with the No. 4 overall pick in 2013.

Eagles notebook: Jordan Mailata pays homage to Jason Kelce

Three years after being drafted in the seventh round, former Australian rugby player Jordan Mailata is starting at left tackle for the Philadelphia Eagles in the Super Bowl.

Mailata, 25, credits center Jason Kelce for helping him become so successful so quickly. He started 16 games for the NFC East champions in 2022.

And Mailata used more than his words to prove his point. He held up his cellphone during an interview on Monday at Super Bowl LVII Opening Night in Phoenix, displaying a photo of Kelce as his background screen.

“That’s Fat Batman,” Mailata said. “That’s how much of an inspiration he is to me. It’s an honor playing with Jason Kelce and the player and the person that he is. You couldn’t ask for a better teammate and leader.”

–There’s no questioning the toughness of Eagles All-Pro right tackle Lane Johnson, who put off surgery to repair a torn core muscle until after the season.

The 10-year Eagles veteran thrives on challenges and is ready for a big one on the other side of the line Sunday when he opposes Chiefs All-Pro defensive tackle Chris Jones.

“I think Chris Jones is the premier guy in the league,” Johnson said. “His ability to rush the passer and play the run at his size, and what he can do with his size — 6-6 and 310, 315 — he just dominated really every game he’s been a part of.”

Jones matched his career high with 15.5 sacks during the regular season and recorded two against the Cincinnati Bengals in the AFC Championship Game.

“There’s times he will line up on the right tackle, left tackle,” Johnson said. “I feel like what they do is they just try to go down the line and see what mismatches they have.”

–The Philadelphia defense allowed a combined 14 points and 391 total yards in playoff wins against the New York Giants and San Francisco 49ers.

“Really we just hold each other accountable and complement each other,” Eagles defensive tackle Fletcher Cox said. “It doesn’t matter what it is. We complement each other in everything that we’re doing. For me, when you’re doing stuff like that, it’s just so special.”

Philadelphia led the NFL with 70 sacks during the regular season and became the first team in NFL history with four players collecting double-digit sacks: Haason Reddick with 16 and Javon Hargrave, Josh Sweat and Brandon Graham with 11 each.

Cox, 32, who had seven sacks in his 11th season with the Eagles, said it will be business as usual Sunday against the Chiefs and quarterback Patrick Mahomes.

“We’ve just got to continue doing what we’re doing,” Cox said. “I don’t think anybody in our room is going to try to do anything special. We’ve just got to stick to what we’ve been doing all year and when we get an opportunity to get him on the ground, we’ve gotta get him on the ground.”

Reports: Eagles RT Lane Johnson to put off surgery

Philadelphia Eagles right tackle Lane Johnson plans to put off abdominal surgery until after the playoffs, according to multiple reports.

The four-time Pro Bowl selection will instead rehab his torn adductor muscle for the next two to three weeks as the Eagles (13-2) try to lock up the No. 1 playoff seed in the NFC.

According to reports, Johnson would miss 10-12 weeks if he undergoes surgery.

Johnson, 32, was injured in the fourth quarter of Saturday’s 40-34 road loss to the Dallas Cowboys.

Including 15 starts this season, he has started 127 games since Philadelphia drafted him with the No. 4 overall pick in 2013. He is a four-time Pro Bowl selection.

The Eagles finish the regular season with home games against the New Orleans Saints on Sunday and the New York Giants on Jan. 8. They need one win to clinch the top seed and a first-round playoff bye.

Eagles’ Lane Johnson, Dallas Goedert to play vs. Raiders

Philadelphia Eagles right tackle Lane Johnson and tight end Dallas Goedert will return to play in Sunday’s road game versus the Las Vegas Raiders.

“He had a good week of practice and we’ll be expecting him to play and start at right tackle,” coach Nick Sirianni said Friday of Johnson, who has been sidelined while addressing his mental health.

Johnson, 31, last took the field in the Eagles’ 41-21 loss to the Dallas Cowboys on Sept. 27.

A three-time Pro Bowl selection, Johnson has started all 102 games in which he has played since joining the Eagles in 2013.

Also on Friday, Sirianni said he looks “forward to Dallas playing a big role this weekend.”

Goedert was activated from the reserve/COVID list on Thursday morning.

“Conditioning-wise, whatever it is, I can be out there the whole game,” Goedert said Friday. “Running out there and practicing today, I felt really good.”

Goedert has 15 catches for 216 yards and two touchdowns in five games this season, raising his four-year career totals with Philadelphia to 152 receptions for 1,681 yards and 14 scores in 47 games.

Philadelphia drafted Goedert in the second round (49th overall) in 2018 out of South Dakota State.

Goedert is expected to receive the majority of the team’s snaps among tight ends after the Eagles traded veteran Zach Ertz to the Arizona Cardinals last Friday.

Eagles OT Lane Johnson set to return, addressed mental health during absence

Philadelphia Eagles offensive tackle Lane Johnson is back with the team after missing three games to address his mental health.

Johnson thanked “everyone for their understanding and support” in a social media post.

“I appreciate the positive notes and messages as I’ve worked hard to restore my personal life. Depression and anxiety are things I’ve dealt with for a long time and have kept hidden from my friends and family,” Johnson said. “If you’re reading this and struggling, please know that you are not alone. I am excited to re-join my teammates and coaches. I’m grateful for the entire Eagles community and look forward to continuing to play in front of the best fans in the world!”

Johnson, 31, last took the field for the Eagles in Week 3. He was inactive Week 4 without being on the injury report in advance of Philadelphia playing the Kansas City Chiefs.

The Eagles’ offensive line has been inconsistent without Johnson and while facing other injuries.

Eagles’ OT Lane Johnson returns, not expected to play Sunday

Philadelphia Eagles offensive tackle Lane Johnson returned to the team but is not expected to play in Sunday’s road game against the Carolina Panthers.

Johnson, 31, hasn’t practiced this week and missed the Eagles’ 42-30 loss to the Kansas City Chiefs on Sunday due to an undisclosed personal matter.

The three-time Pro Bowl selection returned to the team facility on Thursday and “met with some Eagles,” NBC Sports Philadelphia reported.

NBC Sports Philadelphia also reported Eagles security chief Dom DiSandro went to Oklahoma on Wednesday and returned Johnson to Philadelphia.

Johnson has started all 102 games in which he has played since joining the Eagles in 2013.

Eagles RT Lane Johnson inactive vs. Chiefs

Philadelphia Eagles star right tackle Lane Johnson has been listed as inactive for Sunday’s game against the visiting Kansas City Chiefs.

Multiple media outlets reported Johnson’s absence is tied to an undisclosed “personal matter.”

Johnson, a three-time Pro Bowl selection, participated in practice this week and did not have an injury designation on the final report.

Johnson, 31, has started all 102 games in which he has played since joining the Eagles in 2013.

Philadelphia’s offensive line has been in a state of flux this season. Tackle Jordan Mailata also has been ruled out for Sunday’s game, while guards Isaac Seumalo and Brandon Brooks are both on injured reserve.

The Eagles (1-2) also listed quarterback Gardner Minshew II, cornerback Mac McCain and defensive tackle Marlon Tuipulotu as inactive for Sunday’s game against the Chiefs (1-2).

Eagles Pro Bowl RT Lane Johnson says he’s a ‘full go’

Philadelphia Eagles three-time Pro Bowl right tackle Lane Johnson said Thursday he’s a “full go” for offseason workouts after missing nine games last season.

Johnson underwent ankle surgery in December after saying in November that his ankle had “collapsed.” He also missed time in 2020 with a knee injury.

“Full go in practice. I got cleared a couple weeks ago,” Johnson told reporters. “Now that I have two legs, I’ll be a different animal this year.”

The Eagles were injury-ravaged on their offensive line last season, a big reason for the team’s 4-11-1 record. The Eagles expect to have right guard Brandon Brooks (Achilles) and left tackle Andre Dillard (torn biceps) back as well.

“Last year was an embarrassment for everyone involved and that’s been sitting and marinating with us,” Johnson, 31, said.

Johnson, a 2017 first-team All-Pro, played in just 19 games the past two seasons. He has started all 99 games in which he has played since being selected by Philadelphia with the fourth overall pick of the 2013 NFL Draft.

Eagles activate TE Ertz from IR, put OL Johnson on it

The Philadelphia Eagles on Wednesday activated tight end Zach Ertz from injured reserve and put offensive lineman Lane Johnson on it.

The team also activated wideout J.J. Arcega-Whiteside from the reserve/COVID-19 list.

Ertz has missed the past five games with an ankle injury sustained against Baltimore on Oct. 18. He returned to practice last week.

Ertz has 24 catches for 178 yards and a touchdown this season after being the team’s leading receiver in each of the past four seasons.

Johnson has battled an ankle injury all season and missed Monday night’s loss to the Seattle Seahawks. Johnson has played seven games – starting each of them — this season but has played 100 percent of the offensive snaps just twice. Johnson said last week his injured ankle “collapsed.”

Arcega-Whiteside has been on the COVID list the past two weeks and was a healthy scratch the game before that. He hasn’t played since Nov. 1 against the Dallas Cowboys.
