Raiders fire OC Luke Getsy, two other coaches

The Las Vegas Raiders fired offensive coordinator Luke Getsy late Sunday night after only nine games with the team.

The Raiders also parted ways with offensive line coach James Cregg and quarterbacks coach Rich Scangarello during their respective first seasons with the team.

Las Vegas (2-7) saw its losing streak extend to five games with a 41-24 defeat to the Cincinnati Bengals on Sunday afternoon.

The Raiders, who are entering their bye week, will visit the Miami Dolphins on Nov. 17.

Sunday’s move marks the fourth time in the past five years in which the Raiders either switched coordinators or head coaches in the middle of the season.

Getsy, 40, joined Las Vegas during the offseason after spending two seasons as the offensive coordinator of the Chicago Bears.

Under Getsy, the Raiders have mustered NFL-worst totals in average rushing yards per game (76.9) and giveaways (19). Las Vegas is averaging just 280.2 total yards per game, which is fourth worst in the league.

Getsy was hired after the Raiders’ offense averaged 19.5 points per game in 2023. Las Vegas was 27th in the NFL last season in overall offense, averaging 289.5 yards a game.

Raiders GM shuts down trade rumors involving Davante Adams

Three-time All-Pro wide receiver Davante Adams is remaining with the Las Vegas Raiders, new general manager Tom Telesco told reporters on Tuesday at the 2024 NFL Scouting Combine in Indianapolis.

“He’s a Raider,” Telesco said.

Adams, 31, reportedly had been linked to a reunion with former Green Bay Packers teammate Aaron Rodgers with the New York Jets.

Adams, however, told ESPN earlier this month that it was “definitely exciting” to work with new Raiders offensive coordinator Luke Getsy. The two got to know each other when Adams entered the NFL in 2014 and Getsy was the Packers’ offensive quality control coach.

“He’s the type of coach that’s open-minded … he’s going to be open to hearing things from the veteran players that know how this thing works and the best way to do things,” Adams said at the time.

Adams had 103 catches for 1,144 yards and eight touchdowns in 17 games last season.

A six-time Pro Bowl selection, Adams has 872 catches for 10,781 yards and 95 touchdowns in 150 career games (143 starts) with the Packers (2014-21) and Raiders.

Telesco, 51, led the San Diego/Los Angeles Chargers’ front office from 2013-23 before the franchise dismissed both him and coach Brandon Staley after a disastrous 63-21 loss in Week 15 — to the rival Raiders.

During Telesco’s tenure as GM, the Chargers made the playoffs just three times in 11 seasons and never got past the divisional round, despite working with quarterbacks Philip Rivers and Justin Herbert. The Chargers went 84-92 during his tenure.

Reports: Raiders expected to name Luke Getsy as OC

The Las Vegas Raiders are expected to hire former Chicago Bears offensive coordinator Luke Getsy to that same role, multiple outlets reported.

The Bears fired Getsy, 39, last month.

ESPN reported Sunday that Getsy was one of at least five coaches interviewed, including UCLA head coach Chip Kelly and former Arizona Cardinals coach Kliff Kingbury, who withdrew his candidacy and could wind up on the staff of the Washington Commanders.

Antonio Pierce, named the permanent head coach of the Raiders after an interim stint, said he is looking to upgrade the offense from the 19.5 points the Raiders averaged in 2023. The Raiders were 27th in the NFL last season in overall offense, averaging 289.5 yards per game.

The Bears offense averaged 21.2 points per game under Getsy.

Report: Raiders interviewing Luke Getsy for OC post

The Las Vegas Raiders are interviewing former Chicago Bears offensive coordinator Luke Getsy for the same position, NFL Network reported Tuesday.

The Bears fired Getsy on Jan. 10 after a 7-10 season. Chicago finished 28th in total offense in 2022 and 20th in 2023 with Getsy directing the offense for head coach Matt Eberflus.

Chicago finished No. 2 in the league in rushing in 2023 and No. 1 in 2022 but struggled to move the ball through the air with quarterback Justin Fields.

New Raiders head coach Antonio Pierce also is considering Los Angeles Rams quarterbacks coach/passing game coordinator Zac Robinson for the OC role, per reports.

Las Vegas did not retain interim offensive coordinator Bo Hardegree, who took over when OC Mick Lombardi and head coach Josh McDaniels were fired midseason.

The Raiders (8-9) finished 23rd in scoring offense and 27th in total offense in 2023.

Bears tab Green Bay’s Luke Getsy as offensive coordinator

The Chicago Bears hired Luke Getsy as their offensive coordinator on Sunday.

Getsy, 37, comes from the Green Bay Packers, where he spent the past three seasons as quarterbacks coach, adding the title of passing game coordinator in 2020-21.

He is the latest in a flurry of hires for the Bears, who brought in new head coach Matt Eberflus, general manager Ryan Poles and assistant general manager Ian Cunningham in the past four days.

Getsy began his coaching career at his alma mater, Akron, in 2007 and transitioned to the NFL in 2014 as Green Bay’s offensive quality-control coach and then receivers coach (2016-17). He spent a season as offensive coordinator and receivers coach at Mississippi State in 2018 before returning to the Packers in 2019.

In Getsy’s seven seasons in Green Bay, the Packers won five NFC North titles.
