Ravens TE Mark Andrews (ankle) returns to practice

Baltimore Ravens tight end Mark Andrews has been designated to return from injured reserve on Friday.

Andrews, who stepped back on the practice field Friday, had been sidelined since sustaining an ankle injury in Baltimore’s 34-20 victory over the Cincinnati Bengals on Nov. 16.

The Ravens have 21 days to activate Andrews to the active roster or shut him down for the rest of the playoffs. Baltimore earned the top seed in the AFC and has a bye into the divisional round.

Andrews, 28, has 45 receptions for 544 yards and six touchdowns in 10 games (nine starts) this season.

Andrews enjoyed his best season in 2021 when he had 107 receptions for 1,361 yards. The three-time Pro Bowl selection had nine touchdown catches that season, one off his career best from 2019.

Overall, Andrews has 381 career receptions for 4,857 yards and 40 touchdowns in 87 games (42 starts).

Ravens place star TE Mark Andrews (ankle) on IR

The Baltimore Ravens placed three-time Pro Bowl tight end Mark Andrews on injured reserve on Saturday due to his ankle injury.

The move means Andrews will miss at least four games.

Andrews was injured on Nov. 16 against the Cincinnati Bengals and underwent surgery on Tuesday.

Ravens coach John Harbaugh said earlier this week that it was possible Andrews could return this season.

Andrews has 45 receptions for 544 yards and six touchdowns in 10 games (nine starts) this season.

The 28-year-old Andrews enjoyed his best season in 2021 when he had 107 receptions for 1,361 yards. He had nine touchdown grabs that season, one off his career best from 2019.

Overall, Andrews has 381 career receptions for 4,857 yards and 40 touchdowns in 87 games (42 starts).

Baltimore also elevated inside linebacker Josh Ross and safety Andrew Adams from the practice squad for Sunday night’s road game against the Los Angeles Chargers.

Ravens TE Mark Andrews has ‘outside chance’ to return this season

Baltimore Ravens coach John Harbaugh has some optimism, but not a lot, that three-time Pro Bowl tight end Mark Andrews could return this season from a left leg injury.

The Ravens thought Andrews’ season was over after he sustained what was reported as a cracked fibula and ankle ligament damage during a victory over the Cincinnati Bengals last Thursday.

Andrews was injured on Baltimore’s opening drive when he was tackled awkwardly by Logan Wilson at the Cincinnati 4. The Ravens ruled him out for the night soon after and feared he was out for the season.

Harbough told reporters on Monday that tests on the ankle sparked optimism that Andrews has an “outside chance” to play again this season. The coach said that Andrews, 28, is being evaluated this week by foot specialist Dr. Robert Anderson in Charlotte, N.C.

“Nothing is completely definitive yet, but my understanding is in talking with our trainer and the doctors is that it wasn’t as bad as initially feared right after the game,” Harbaugh said.

“… It wasn’t as bad as it could have been. It’s a little cleaner than they thought, based on the MRI. He’s going to be involved with Dr. Anderson down there in Charlotte in the next few days. We’ll know more, but there might be an outside chance he could get back at some point in time. We’ll just have to see how that goes. I don’t want to say that’s definitive by any stretch, but there is some optimism.”

The Ravens (8-3) lead the AFC North and may need to make a deep postseason run to give Andrews more time to recover.

Isaiah Likely, a fourth-round pick in 2022, has just nine catches this season but is expected to see a larger workload in Andrews’ absence.

A sixth-year pro, Andrews leads Baltimore with six receiving touchdowns this season and has 45 catches for 544 yards in 10 games.

“Mark is such a competitor, such a talent. He’s a superstar player,” Harbaugh said. “We have to replace him together as a group. I really believe we can do it.”

His 40 career touchdown receptions are one shy of the franchise record set by fellow tight end Todd Heap from 2001-10.

A third-round pick out of Oklahoma in 2018, Andrews has 381 receptions for 4,857 yards in 87 games (42 starts). He made the Pro Bowl in 2019, 2021 and 2022 and was first-team All-Pro in 2021 with 107 catches for 1,361 yards and nine touchdowns.

Report: MRI shows cracked fibula for Ravens TE Mark Andrews

An MRI on Ravens tight end Mark Andrews’ lower left leg revealed a cracked fibula and ankle ligament damage, NFL Network reported Friday.

Baltimore coach John Harbaugh said he expects the veteran All-Pro to miss the rest of the season with the injuries sustained early in Thursday night’s 34-20 victory against the Cincinnati Bengals.

Andrews, 28, will consult with Dr. Robert Anderson next week in Charlotte, N.C., to gain more information, per the report.

Andrews was injured on Baltimore’s opening drive when he was tackled awkwardly by Logan Wilson at the Cincinnati 4. He was tended to for several minutes on the field before slowly making his way to the medical tent.

The Ravens ruled him out for the night soon after.

Andrews had two catches for 23 yards before his exit. The sixth-year pro, a three-time Pro Bowl selection, leads Baltimore with six receiving touchdowns this season and has 45 catches for 544 yards in 10 games.

Isaiah Likely, a fourth-round pick in 2022, has just nine catches this season but is expected to see a larger workload in Andrews’ absence.

“It means every game from this point on is for Mark in my eyes,” Likely said, per ESPN. “Every snap I’m going to take for the rest of the season is going to be for No. 89.”

The Ravens (8-3) visit the Los Angeles Chargers in Week 12 and have a bye in Week 13.

“It’s going to take everybody,” Harbaugh said of replacing Andrews. “It’s going to take a team to do it and our guys will be up for the challenge and up for the task, but those receivers are obviously going to be a big part of that.”

Andrews, who turns 28 on Wednesday, caught 73 passes for 847 yards and five touchdowns in 15 starts in 2022.

Wednesday is also when the injury report will come out for Sunday’s opener against the visiting Houston Texans.

Ravens TE Mark Andrews ruled out for Monday vs. Saints

The Baltimore Ravens downgraded tight end Mark Andrews from doubtful to out for Monday night’s game against the host New Orleans Saints.

Andrews is dealing with injuries to both his knee and his shoulder.

The 2021 All-Pro selection and two-time Pro Bowler has not missed a game since 2020. In eight games (all starts) this season, he has hauled in 42 receptions for 488 yards and five touchdowns — all team highs.

Baltimore (5-3) is coping with several other injuries, primarily on offense. Wide receiver Rashod Bateman (foot) is out for the year. Running back Gus Edwards (hamstring) is doubtful. Receiver Demarcus Robinson (groin), cornerback Marcus Peters (quad, knee) and linebacker Malik Harison (foot) are among those questionable.

Ravens WR Rashod Bateman (foot) to miss ‘few weeks’

Baltimore Ravens wide receiver Rashod Bateman will be sidelined “a few weeks” with a foot injury he re-aggravated in last week’s game.

Ravens coach John Harbaugh said Monday that Bateman’s injury is more serious than the team thought coming out of Thursday night’s win against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

It was first thought Bateman had tweaked his foot. He missed two games earlier this season with the injury. Bateman was targeted just once in 13 snaps against the Bucs. He was ruled out after halftime.

“Bateman’s a little bit more disappointing in the sense that after the game, they thought it was kind of a tweak, but there was a little more there from a strain standpoint,” Harbaugh said Monday. “… It looks like it’s going to be a few weeks for him. We’ll have more to report on that later in the week.”

Bateman, 22, has 15 catches for 285 yards and two touchdowns in six games (five starts) this season.

All-Pro tight end Mark Andrews is dealing with shoulder and knee issues, but Harbaugh said both are minor. He, too, was ruled out of the rest of the Bucs’ game after playing just 10 snaps.

“Mark Andrews looks like it’s not a major, major thing,” Harbaugh said. “It’s something he’s dealing with … think he’ll be OK.”

Harbaugh said running back Gus Edwards will likely be questionable with a minor hamstring injury for the Week 9 game against New Orleans. The Ravens and Saints play next Monday night.

Finally, Harbaugh said the team would designate linebackers Tyus Bowser and David Ojabo for return from injured reserve this week. Harbaugh expects Bowser to play against the Saints while Ojabo will need more time to recover from his pre-draft Achilles tear.
