Report: Browns WR Jakeem Grant (knee) out for season

Cleveland Browns wide receiver/returner Jakeem Grant will miss the 2023 season with a ruptured patellar tendon, NFL Network reported Sunday.

In more encouraging news in Cleveland, wide receiver Marquise Goodwin was activated from the non-football illness list, coach Kevin Stefanski said.

Grant was carted off the field with a knee injury following the opening kickoff of Saturday’s preseason game against the host Kansas City Chiefs. His right leg was placed in an air cast before he was taken off the field.

Grant, 30, had worked his way back to action after sustaining a ruptured Achilles last summer.

He has 100 catches for 1,140 yards and seven touchdowns in 81 career games with the Miami Dolphins and Chicago Bears. He also averages 24.5 yards per kick return and 10.3 yards per punt return in his career.

Goodwin was placed on the non-football illness list July 21 due to blood clots discovered in both his lungs and legs. He is now approved to begin practicing.

He had been dealing with slight shortness of breath and leg discomfort before the diagnosis.

Goodwin, 32, spent last season with the Seattle Seahawks and caught 27 passes for 387 yards and four touchdowns in 13 games (two starts).

In nine NFL seasons spent with the Buffalo Bills (2013-16), San Francisco 49ers (2017-19), Bears (2021) and Seahawks, he has 187 career receptions for 3,023 yards and 18 touchdowns.

The Cleveland Browns are signing wide receiver Marquise Goodwin to a one-year contract, multiple media outlets reported on Friday.

Goodwin, 32, had 27 catches for 387 yards to go along with a career high-tying four touchdowns in 13 games (two starts) last season with the Seattle Seahawks.

He has 187 receptions for 3,023 yards and 18 touchdowns in 102 career games (44 starts) with the Buffalo Bills (2013-16), San Francisco 49ers (2017-19), Chicago Bears (2021) and Seahawks (2022).

Seahawks place Marquise Goodwin (shoulder, wrist) on IR

The Seattle Seahawks put wide receiver Marquise Goodwin on injured reserve, one of several roster moves the team made Saturday.

Goodwin, who has battled shoulder and wrist injuries and was held out of practice this week, will be replaced on the roster by linebacker Vi Jones, signed off the practice squad.

Seattle also elevated tight end Tyler Mabry and wide receiver Cade Johnson off the practice squad in advance of the Seahawks’ Sunday home game against the New York Jets.

Goodwin, 32, has 27 receptions for 387 yards and four touchdowns this season. For his career, he has 187 receptions for 3,023 yards and 18 touchdowns in 102 games (44 starts) over nine seasons with Buffalo (2013-16), San Francisco (2017-19), Chicago (2021) and Seattle.

Jones has appeared in three NFL games this year, the first game action of his career.

Mabry has appeared in six games, while Johnson has one appearance to date.

Kenneth Walker III, Marquise Goodwin both injured in Seahawks’ game with Rams

Seattle rookie running back Kenneth Walker III and wide receiver Marquise Goodwin both left Sunday’s game against the Los Angeles Rams in the second quarter and are questionable to return.

Both were hurt on the same drive. Walker suffered a right ankle injury while being pushed out of bounds for no gain after taking a pitch at the Rams’ 4-yard line. Goodwin hurt his right hand while trying to make a catch in the end zone as he was clobbered by a pair of defensive backs.

Bears sign WR Marquise Goodwin

Marquise Goodwin is changing NFL teams for the third time since he last played a game.

The 30-year-old free agent wide receiver signed a one-year contract with the Chicago Bears on Friday. Terms of the deal were not announced.

Goodwin was traded by the San Francisco 49ers to the Philadelphia Eagles in April 2020, but he later opted out of the 2020 season amid the coronavirus pandemic.

His rights reverted to the 49ers because he didn’t play for Philadelphia, and the 49ers cut him last month.

Goodwin spent three seasons in San Francisco after playing his first four NFL seasons with the Buffalo Bills, who selected him in the third round of the 2013 draft.

In 75 career games, Goodwin has 140 receptions for 2,323 yards and 13 touchdowns. His best season came in 2017, when he had 56 catches for 962 yards and two TDs for the 49ers.
