Bills placing S Damar Hamlin (pectoral) on injured reserve

The Buffalo Bills are placing safety Damar Hamlin and rookie defensive tackle T.J Sanders on injured reserve, coach Sean McDermott said Saturday.

The Bills (4-1) also ruled out linebacker Matt Milano for Monday night’s road game against the Atlanta Falcons (2-2).

Hamlin (pectoral), Milano (pectoral) and Sanders (knee) were all absent from Friday’s practice.

The IR designation means Hamlin and Sanders will miss a minimum of four games. Their earliest return would be the Bills’ Week 11 home game against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

Hamlin, 27, has recorded one tackle in five games this season, playing 49 of his 61 total snaps on special teams.

Sanders, 22, did not play in last Sunday’s 23-20 loss to the New England Patriots. He has two tackles in four games.

Milano, 31, has collected 15 tackles and one sack in three games (all starts) this season, his ninth with Buffalo.

Bills defenders Ed Oliver, Matt Milano out vs. Saints

Buffalo Bills defensive tackle Ed Oliver and linebacker Matt Milano will not play Sunday against the visiting New Orleans Saints, head coach Sean McDermott said Friday.

Oliver has an ankle injury and Milano will miss the game with a pectoral issue.

McDermott said right tackle Spencer Brown (calf) and defensive end AJ Epenesa (pectoral) are questionable. Both were expected to be limited participants in practice on Friday.

Oliver hasn’t played since Week 1 and Milano has been out since leaving the Week 2 game against the New York Jets.

The Bills (3-0) have scored more than 30 points in each game this season, and the Saints (0-3) have put only 47 points on the board in their combined three losses.

Injured Bills DT Ed Oliver, LB Matt Milano out against Dolphins

Buffalo Bills linebacker Matt Milano and defensive tackle Ed Oliver will not play Thursday night against the Miami Dolphins, head coach Sean McDermott confirmed Thursday.

Milano is dealing with a pectoral injury, while Oliver is nursing an ankle injury. Neither took part in practice Monday or Tuesday ahead of the home game.

Speaking on WGR550 on Wednesday, McDermott also said it isn’t clear when Milano will be able to return.

“What I’ve been told is it’s too early until they really see how this thing settles in, if you will, or plays itself out in terms of the days following the injury,” McDermott said. “I think that’ll have a direct impact on how long he’s out.”

Defensive backs Taron Johnson (quad) and Cam Lewis (shoulder), as well as linebacker Shaq Thompson (hamstring/hand), all are questionable for the game. They have been limited in practice this week.

Oliver, 27, is in his eighth season since the Bills selected him with the No. 9 overall pick in the 2019 NFL Draft. In 93 career games (84 starts), he has 237 tackles (52 for loss), 73 QB hits, 28 sacks, nine forced fumbles and a fumble recovery.

Milano, 31, played in just nine games over the past two seasons, suffering a broken leg in 2023 and torn biceps in 2024.

A fifth-round draft pick by Buffalo in 2017, he has 96 career appearances (80 starts), 513 tackles (60 for loss), 42 QB hits, 10 interceptions, 39 pass breakups, three forced fumbles and 11 fumble recoveries.

The Bills are off to a 2-0 start to the season. The Dolphins are 0-2.

Bills S Taylor Rapp (back) misses practice, day-to-day

Buffalo Bills safety Taylor Rapp and offensive tackle Dion Dawkins (illness) were both non-participants in the team’s walkthrough on Wednesday while linebacker Matt Milano (biceps/hamstring) was limited.

Bills head coach Sean McDermott said Rapp is listed as day-to-day with back and hip injuries.

Cornerback Christian Benford (concussion) was also listed as limited on the estimated practice report.

The Bills play at the Kansas City Chiefs in the AFC Championship Game on Sunday.

Rapp was injured in the second quarter of Sunday’s divisional playoff win over the Baltimore Ravens and initially termed questionable to return. He was ruled out midway through the third quarter.

Rapp was hurt during a play in which he was on the ground when hit by teammate Damar Hamlin. He was carted off the field with 6:13 left in the second quarter. Rapp, 27, intercepted Baltimore’s Lamar Jackson in the first quarter. He had two tackles. In the regular season, Rapp had 82 tackles and two interceptions.

Milano exited the final defensive series on Sunday and did not return.

“There was some soreness afterwards but I don’t know if it’s an injury or not, it’s just what I’m being told is a hamstring soreness and so he’ll be limited today with that,” McDermott said.

Safety Damar Hamlin (rib), cornerback Taron Johnson (neck/shoulder), tight end Dalton Kincaid (knee), defensive back Cam Lewis (shoulder), center Connor McGovern (shoulder), defensive end Greg Rousseau (finger) and linebacker Dorian Williams (elbow) were full participants.

Bills LB Matt Milano, DT DaQuan Jones need surgery

Buffalo Bills coach Sean McDermott said Monday that two defensive starters, linebacker Matt Milano (leg) and defensive tackle DaQuan Jones (torn pec), will require surgery.

McDermott was not ready to rule either player out for the rest of the season at this point.

Both players were hurt Sunday in the Bills’ 25-20 loss to the Jacksonville Jaguars in London.

Milano appeared to have his right leg caught in a pile of players early in the game. He had to be helped off the field and was ruled out with what the team called a knee injury.

Milano, 29, was a Pro Bowl and first-team All-Pro selection in 2022. He had 30 tackles, two interceptions and one forced fumble over five starts this year before his injury.

Jones, 31, had 2.5 sacks in five games to start the season.

McDermott also revealed that tight end Dawson Knox has a wrist injury and rookie tight end Dalton Kincaid entered concussion protocol after Sunday’s game.

The Bills will sign former All-Pro cornerback Josh Norman to their practice squad, according to the NFL Network.

Norman, 35, played in two games (one start) in 2022 with the Carolina Panthers, for whom he began his NFL career in 2012 as a fifth-round pick. He also has played for Washington (2016-19), Buffalo (2020) and San Francisco (2021).

He played in nine games (three starts) for the Bills and collected 24 tackles, one interception returned for a touchdown, one forced fumble and two fumble returns.

Linebacker Matt Milano is bypassing free agency to sign a four-year, $44 million deal with $24 million in guarantees, according to multiple reports.

Milano was scheduled to become an unrestricted free agent. He was regarded as one of the top linebackers available.

Retaining Milano helps head coach Sean McDermott keep his potent defense intact.

General manager Brandon Beane said last month he understood Milano earned the right to find out “what the market bears.”

The 26-year-old joined the team as a fifth-round pick in 2017.

Bills CB White (back) misses game vs. Titans

Buffalo standout cornerback Tre’Davious White was inactive for the Bills’ Tuesday night contest against the Tennessee Titans due to a back injury.

White, a Pro Bowl selection and All-Pro last season, has 12 interceptions in 51 career NFL games. He tied for the NFL lead last season with six but has yet to pick off a pass this season.

The Bills also were without two other starters, as receiver John Brown (knee) and linebacker Matt Milano (pectoral) were ruled out.

Brown has 14 receptions for 194 yards and two touchdowns this year. Milano has 18 tackles, one interception and one sack.
