Jets rule out CB Michael Carter II, LB C.J. Mosley could return

The New York Jets will be without cornerback Michael Carter II when they host the Buffalo Bills on Monday night.

Carter injured his back in pregame warmups prior to New York’s 23-17 loss to the Minnesota Vikings last week and was on the field for just one play. He missed practice this entire week before being ruled out Saturday.

The Jets listed five-time Pro Bowl linebacker C.J. Mosley (toe) as questionable and he could return after a three-game absence. He was limited in practice all week.

“We steadily have just progressed him as far as the reps that he takes at practice,” New York interim coach Jeff Ulbrich said. “He’s felt the best he’s felt in a while this week, so we’re hopeful.”

Tight end Tyler Conklin (hip) also was listed as questionable.

Right tackle Morgan Moses (knee) is slated to return after a two-game absence. Quarterback Aaron Rodgers (ankle) practiced in full Saturday and is good to go.

Jets LB C.J. Mosley (toe) out vs. Patriots

New York Jets standout linebacker C.J. Mosley is sitting out Thursday’s night game against the New England Patriots due to a toe injury.

Mosley was listed on New York’s group of inactive players. He injured his right big toe in Sunday’s victory over the Tennessee Titans.

Mosley is a five-time Pro Bowl selection. He is in his fifth season with the Jets after spending his first five campaigns with the Baltimore Ravens.

Also inactive for the Jets are offensive linemen Max Mitchell and Carter Warren, defensive lineman Eric Watts, cornerback Jarrick Bernard-Converse and running back Israel Abanikanda.

New England’s inactives are guard Sidy Sow, offensive tackle Vederian Lowe, linebacker Ja’Whaun Bentley, cornerback Marco Wilson and defensive end Jamree Kromah.

New York Jets linebacker Jermaine Johnson (11) exits the field after an injury during the third quarter against the Tennessee Titans at Nissan Stadium in Nashville, Tenn., Sunday, Sept. 15, 2024.

Jets DE Jermaine Johnson confirms torn Achilles, done for year

New York Jets defensive end Jermaine Johnson confirmed reports that he tore his right Achilles tendon in a social media post Monday.

The Jets’ third-year pass rusher, a Pro Bowl selection as an injury replacement in 2023, is expected to miss the rest of the season with the injury suffered in Week 2 against the Tennessee Titans.

The post was accompanied by a video that showed Johnson using a leg scooter in the Jets’ facility. He said MRI results came back Monday, making his diagnosis official.

“Thank everyone for all the prayers and support! This is not a dark time for me, although there will be dark days ahead, this is Gods way for me to not only grow as a man, person and player but to also inspire others to as well,” Johnson wrote, vowing that he will “be back and better.”

Johnson, 25, was injured on a non-contact play while rushing Tennessee quarterback Will Levis in the third quarter of Sunday’s 24-17 road win. He immediately grabbed his right leg and was eventually carted off the field.

The Jets traded into the bottom of the first round of the 2022 NFL Draft to select Johnson No. 26 overall. In 33 career games (19 starts), he has amassed 88 tackles, 10 sacks, seven pass breakups, one interception and one forced fumble.

Johnson’s injury will likely make the absence of Haason Reddick even more apparent. The Jets traded for Reddick from the Philadelphia Eagles in the offseason, but Reddick has held out for essentially his entire stint with the Jets as he seeks a long-term contract. He has already forfeited two game checks on top of racking up more than $5 million in fines.

Jets coach Robert Saleh told reporters that starting linebacker C.J. Mosley injured his big toe during the Titans game. He didn’t reveal whether it was a turf toe injury, but didn’t rule Mosley out for the Week 3 home opener against the New England Patriots on Thursday despite the short week.

Jets may have lost Jermaine Johnson II (Achilles) for season

New York Jets standout edge rusher Jermaine Johnson II likely tore his right Achilles tendon during Sunday’s 24-17 road win over the Tennessee Titans.

“It’s unfortunately looking like that,” Jets coach Robert Saleh told reporters. “We’ll confirm it tomorrow, but it doesn’t look good.”

Johnson will undergo an MRI exam to determine the severity.

Johnson was injured during the third quarter on a non-contact play while rushing Tennessee quarterback Will Levis. He immediately grabbed his right leg and was eventually carted off the field.

Johnson said he cried in the locker room and called his mom and other family members after being told he had a serious injury.

“I’m hoping for the best. We still have to clarify and make sure,” Johnson told reporters. “It wasn’t fun.”

Johnson, 25, is in his third season after being a first-round choice (No. 26 overall) in the 2022 NFL Draft.

He recorded 7.5 sacks and made 55 tackles last season while making his first Pro Bowl.

Johnson had two tackles — one for loss — before being hurt.

Jets inside linebacker C.J. Mosley (right big toe) was carted off in the second quarter. He had three tackles before departing.

Saleh said he was hopeful Mosley will be available for Thursday night’s home game against the New England Patriots.
