He has 548 career tackles and 19 sacks in 104 games (91 starts) with the Philadelphia Eagles (2012-17), Seattle Seahawks (2018-19) and Washington.

Report: Niners sign free agent LB Mychal Kendricks

The San Francisco 49ers are signing free agent linebacker Mychal Kendricks, ESPN is reporting.

Kendricks, 30, is three weeks removed from serving a one-day jail sentence for insider trading in 2018. He is currently serving three years of probation and must also fulfill 300 hours of community service.

He was under contract with the Cleveland Browns when the charges were announced three years ago.

Kendricks was suspended eight games by the NFL and was released by the Browns when charges were announced in 2018 before ever playing a game with the franchise.

He signed with Seattle and played a total of 18 games with the Seahawks and finished his two seasons with the team on injured reserve.

Kendricks began last season on the Seahawks’ practice squad before being signed by the Washington Football Team and appearing in just one game.

A second-round pick (46th overall) by Philadelphia in 2012, Kendricks spent his first six seasons with the Eagles, starting 74 of 85 games and accumulating 458 tackles, 14 sacks and six forced fumbles. He was a starter in the Super Bowl LII win against New England.

Free agent LB Mychal Kendricks gets 1-day sentence

Free agent linebacker Mychal Kendricks was sentenced to one day in jail and three years of probation for insider trading in 2018.

Kendricks must also serve 300 hours community service, Judge Gene Pratter ruled Thursday in the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Pennsylvania.

The sentence was expected to be closer to three years (30 to 37 months) based on court precedent.

Kendricks began serving his one-day sentence on Thursday.

The 30-year-old Kendricks is unsigned as training camps begin and played for the Cleveland Browns when the charges were announced three years ago.

An investment analyst for Goldman Sachs, Damilare Sonoiki, entered a guilty plea in 2018 for illegally informing Kendricks about corporate acquisitions that his bank was advising prior to public announcements in conversations that took place in 2014.

In the complaint, the district attorney claimed Kendricks benefited to the tune of $1.2 million in illegal profits by purchasing securities in the four companies that were about to be acquired based on Sonoiki’s advice.

Kendricks was suspended eight games by the NFL and was released by the Browns when charges were announced in 2018 before ever playing a game with the franchise.

He signed with Seattle and played a total of 18 games with the Seahawks and finished his two seasons with the team on injured reserve. Last season, Kendricks agreed to join the Seahawks’ practice squad before being signed by the Washington Football Team.

Seahawks re-sign veteran LB Kendricks to practice squad

The Seattle Seahawks signed one of their former linebackers, veteran Mychal Kendricks, to their practice squad on Wednesday, the team announced.

Kendricks spent the previous two seasons with Seattle, but was not re-signed while he has rehabilitated from an ACL tear suffered during the team’s 2019 season finale, causing the eight-year veteran to miss last year’s postseason.

“We were fortunate to get him on our practice squad right now,” coach Pete Carroll said. “He’s still a free agent and all that but he’s on his road to recovery right now, coming back in and proving he can do it.”

Last season Kendricks, 30, posted 71 tackles, three sacks and one interception in 14 games (all starts). He started 17 of 18 games he appeared in with the Seahawks over 2018-19.

Originally a second-round pick in 2012, Kendricks spent his first six seasons with the Philadelphia Eagles and earned a Super Bowl ring in the 2017 season.

In 103 career games (91 starts), Kendricks has 548 tackles, 19 sacks, seven forced fumbles and four interceptions.

Kendricks was suspended for eight games in 2018 by the NFL as a result of his guilty plea to federal insider trading changes, which violated the NFL’s personal conduct policy.
