Browns’ Myles Garrett, Jadeveon Clowney questionable vs. Falcons

Cleveland Browns defensive ends Myles Garrett and Jadeveon Clowney are considered questionable to play in Sunday’s game against the Falcons in Atlanta, coach Kevin Stefanski said Friday.

Garrett, 26, sustained a shoulder injury among other bumps and bruises following a car accident on Monday.

“The latest is (he is) here today and continuing to rehab,” Stefanski said of Garrett’s availability for the game. “We’re going to list him as questionable. We’re going to use the next 24, 48 hours to see how he continues to respond to treatment and those types of things and make an appropriate decision on him and the rest of the guys.”

Garrett has three sacks, seven tackles and a forced fumble in three games this season for the Browns (2-1).

A two-time All-Pro, Garrett has recorded 210 tackles, 61.5 sacks and 12 forced fumbles in 71 games (69 starts) since being selected by the Browns with the top overall pick in the 2017 NFL Draft.

Clowney, 29, is nursing an ankle injury that forced him to miss Cleveland’s 29-17 victory over the Pittsburgh Steelers on Sept. 22.

He has totaled 297 tackles, 42.5 sacks and 13 forced fumbles in 99 career games (90 starts) with the Houston Texans, Seattle Seahawks, Tennessee Titans and Browns. Clowney was selected by the Texans with the top overall pick of the 2014 NFL Draft.

Myles Garrett issued citation in rollover crash

Cleveland Browns defensive end Myles Garrett was issued a citation Thursday for failure to control his vehicle in the rollover crash that injured the two-time All-Pro earlier this week.

The Ohio State Highway Patrol issued the citation in Wadsworth Municipal Court. Garrett was cited for traveling at an un unsafe speed for the type of roadway; he was driving 65 mph in a posted 45-mph zone.

Garrett’s 2021 Porsche went off the road Monday and flipped multiple times before coming to a rest in a ditch.

Garrett and a female passenger were taken by ambulance for medical attention with non-life-threatening injuries. Both were released Monday night.

Garrett wound up with a shoulder sprain, a biceps strain, minor lacerations as well as some bumps and bruises to various other body parts. The accident occurred after Garrett, 26, left the practice facility in Berea, Ohio.

WKYC reported Wednesday that Garrett has been stopped for speeding at least six times since joining the Browns in 2017. Citing court records, WKYC said he has been cited for driving in excess of 100 mph multiple times, with a high of 120 mph.

Garrett was the No. 1 overall pick in the 2017 NFL Draft and is in his sixth season with the Browns. He has recorded 61.5 sacks and 12 forced fumbles in 71 games (69 starts).

The Browns (2-1) are scheduled for a Sunday road game against the Atlanta Falcons (1-2) and there’s a chance that Garrett will be well enough to play.

Browns’ Myles Garrett could play Sunday, despite crash

Cleveland Browns star Myles Garrett has not been ruled out for Sunday’s game in Atlanta, despite sustaining injuries in a car crash on Monday.

The defensive end sprained a shoulder, strained his biceps and got other bumps and bruises in the one-car accident when his 2021 Porsche went off the road and flipped multiple times before coming to a rest.

Garrett missed practice Wednesday and stayed home to rest, but Browns coach Kevin Stefanski said that he expected him back with the team on Thursday.

“Very, very grateful that he’s OK,” Stefanski said of his pass rusher.

NFL Network reported Tuesday that Garrett swerved to avoid an animal on a wet road and over-corrected, causing the car to flip.

The Browns said Monday the accident occurred after Garrett, 26, left the practice facility.

Details of the crash are under investigation. The Ohio State Highway Patrol confirmed there was a female passenger in the vehicle and that both occupants were wearing seatbelts, and there was no suspicion that Garrett was under the influence of alcohol nor drugs. She sustained non-life-threatening injuries.

Garrett was the No. 1 overall pick in the 2017 NFL Draft and is in his sixth season with the Browns. He has recorded 61.5 sacks and 12 forced fumbles in 71 games (69 starts).

Browns DE Myles Garrett injured in auto crash

Cleveland Browns defensive end Myles Garrett and a passenger were taken to a hospital with non-life-threatening injuries Monday after a single-vehicle crash.

The team confirmed that the accident occurred after Garrett, 26, left the practice facility in Berea, Ohio.

Multiple reports said Garrett’s 2021 Porsche went off the road and flipped multiple times before coming to a rest.

Details of the crash that happened at about 3 p.m. local team near Wadsworth in Ohio’s Medina County were still being gathered. The Ohio State Highway Patrol confirmed there was a female passenger in the vehicle and that both occupants were wearing seatbelts.

Garrett was the No. 1 overall pick in the 2017 NFL Draft and is in his sixth season with the Browns. He has recorded 61 1/2 sacks and 12 forced fumbles in 71 games (69 starts).

The next game for Cleveland (2-1) is Sunday at the Atlanta Falcons (1-2).

Browns DE Myles Garrett (neck) expected to play vs. Steelers

The Cleveland Browns expect defensive end Myles Garrett and two other key contributors to play Thursday night against Pittsburgh.

Garrett (neck), right tackle Jack Conklin (knee) and guard Joel Bitonio (biceps) are all expected to play when the Browns and Steelers square off.

Garrett, an All-Pro, sat out of practice Tuesday with a neck injury and the Browns had already ruled out Jadeveon Clowney (ankle) for Week 3.

Garrett and Bitonio were hurt Sunday in the Browns’ loss to the New York Jets but finished the game.

Bitonio also missed practice on Tuesday. Conklin, another All-Pro, has yet to make his season debut as he continued to recover from a season-ending knee injury.

The Browns will be at full strength at both tackle positions for the first time this season.

Browns DE Myles Garrett (groin) questionable vs. Packers

Cleveland Browns star defensive end Myles Garrett was listed as questionable to face the host Green Bay Packers on Saturday despite failing to practice this week.

Garrett is nursing a groin injury sustained in Cleveland’s 16-14 loss to the Las Vegas Raiders on Monday.

“He wants to play very badly but we’ll see how it goes over the next couple days,” Browns coach Kevin Stefanski said of Garrett, whose 15 sacks trail only Pittsburgh’s T.J. Watt (17.5) and Chicago’s Robert Quinn (16) for the NFL lead.

Cleveland defensive tackle Malik Jackson (knee) also was listed as questionable despite being limited in practice on Thursday.

Safety John Johnson III (hamstring) has been ruled out for the Browns (7-7), while center JC Tretter was placed on the reserve/COVID-19 list on Thursday.

Green Bay wide receiver Equanimeous St. Brown (concussion) was a full participant in Thursday’s practice and is expected to be available to play against Cleveland.

Star quarterback Aaron Rodgers (toe) and running back Aaron Jones (knee) did not receive an injury designation by the Packers (11-3).

Green Bay ruled out offensive tackles Billy Turner (knee) and David Bakhtiari (knee), linebacker Ty Summers (hamstring) and wide receiver Malik Taylor (shoulder) for Saturday’s game.

Browns DEs Myles Garrett, Jadeveon Clowney return to practice

Cleveland’s extensive injury report improved a bit Thursday as Myles Garrett and Jadeveon Clowney returned to practice, but the Browns were still without their backfield.

Garrett (knee, ankle) and Clowney (elbow, knee) were listed as limited in practice. Defensive end Takk McKinley (ankle, knee) also returned in limited fashion. Clowney missed the team’s Week 5 game.

Tight end David Njoku (knee) was also able to participate.

However, running backs Nick Chubb (calf) and Kareem Hunt (wrist, knee) both missed their second consecutive practice. Offensive linemen JC Tretter (knee), Jack Conklin (knee) and Jedrick Wills Jr. (ankle) also missed. Chubb is second in the NFL in rushing with 523 yards while Hunt has 295, good for 16th in the league.

Wills did practice Wednesday.

Browns offensive coordinator Alex Van Pelt said Thursday he’s “not really sure” if Wills and Conklin, the starting tackles, would be able to play.

“Hopefully we can get them out (to practice) later in the week, but if not, it’s next-man-up mentality for us,” Van Pelt said.

Cornerbacks Denzel Ward (neck), Greg Newsome II (calf) and Greedy Williams (shoulder) all practiced Thursday but were limited.

The Browns (3-2) host the unbeaten Arizona Cardinals (5-0) on Sunday.

Nick Chubb, Kareem Hunt among battered Browns to miss practice

The Browns opened the week black and blue as their primary backfield and edge rushers were among a host of Cleveland players who missed practice Wednesday with injuries.

Both Nick Chubb (calf) and backup Kareem Hunt (wrist, knee) missed practice, as did defensive ends Myles Garrett (knee, ankle) and Jadeveon Clowney (elbow, knee). Clowney did not play in Week 5.

Also missing Wednesday were center J.C. Tretter (knee) and right tackle Jack Conklin (knee), defensive end Takk McKinley (ankle, knee), tight end David Njoku (knee) and linebacker Malcolm Smith (abdomen).

Garrett (NFL-high seven sacks) missed two practices last week but played against the Los Angeles Chargers.

Chubb is second in the NFL in rushing with 523 yards while Hunt has 295, good for 16th in the league.

The Browns (3-2) are preparing to play the undefeated Arizona Cardinals on Sunday in Cleveland.

Returning to practice Wednesday were cornerbacks Denzel Ward and Greg Newsome II, and left tackle Jedrick Wills. Ward (neck) was injured last Sunday while Newsome has missed the past two games with a calf injury. Wills (ankle) also missed Sunday’s game.

Wide receiver Jarvis Landry is eligible to return from injured reserve this week but did not practice.

Browns activate DE Garrett, place S Harrison on IR

The Cleveland Browns activated defensive end Myles Garrett off the reserve/COVID-19 list and placed safety Ronnie Harrison on injured reserve, the team announced Tuesday.

Garrett, 24, was tied for the league lead in sacks (9.5) before sitting out the team’s past two games. Cleveland (8-3) won both contests, however, including registering five sacks in its 22-17 win over Philadelphia on Nov. 22.

The No. 1 overall pick in the 2017 NFL Draft, Garrett has 40 sacks, 79 quarterback hits, 135 tackles and 10 forced fumbles in 46 career games (44 starts) for Cleveland.

Harrison sustained a shoulder injury during the first quarter of the Browns’ 27-25 victory over Jacksonville on Sunday. Multiple media outlets reported that the 23-year-old could miss four-to-six weeks due to the injury.

Harrison has recorded 32 tackles and one interception in 10 games in 2020 since being acquired in a trade with the Jaguars prior to the season.
