Texans OT Trent Brown inactive vs. Patriots

Houston Texans offensive tackle Trent Brown is unable to play against his former team on Sunday afternoon.

Despite testing out his ailing ankle prior to kickoff, Brown was listed as inactive for the Texans in their AFC divisional round game against the New England Patriots in Foxborough, Mass.

Brown, who played for the Patriots from 2021-23, was listed as questionable to play while nursing the injury. He sat out practice on Wednesday and Thursday before turning in what amounted to a limited session during a walkthrough on Friday.

Tytus Howard is expected to slide over from left guard to replace Brown at right tackle for Houston, while Jarrett Patterson is expected to play left guard.

In addition to Brown, the Texans listed the following players as inactive: wide receivers Nico Collins and Justin Watson, running back Jawhar Jordan, cornerback Alijah Huzzie and quarterback Graham Mertz.

New England cornerback Christian Gonzalez (concussion) and linebacker Harold Landry III (knee) were good to go for Sunday’s game. Both players had been questionable.

Edge rusher Bradyn Swinson, tight end C.J. Dippre, offensive linemen Marcus Bryant and Caedan Wallace, defensive lineman Eric Gregory, cornerback Kobee Minor and quarterback Tommy DeVito are inactive for the Patriots.

Texans WR Nico Collins (concussion) out vs. Patriots

Nico Collins’ absence from practice Friday effectively ensured he will miss the Houston Texans’ divisional round playoff game against the host New England Patriots on Sunday afternoon.

The Pro Bowl wide receiver has not practiced since sustaining a concussion Monday in the third quarter of Houston’s 30-6 win over the Pittsburgh Steelers in the wild-card round.

The NFL concussion protocol requires players to complete two symptom-free practices, including a contact session, before returning to game action.

Houston’s top receiver this season, Collins had three catches for 21 yards in his abbreviated appearance in Pittsburgh. Christian Kirk stepped up with eight receptions for a career-best 144 yards and grabbed quarterback C.J. Stroud’s lone touchdown pass.

Wideout Justin Watson also remained out after being concussed against the Steelers.

Collins totaled 71 catches, 1,117 yards and six TDs in the regular season for Houston, the league’s No. 13 scoring offense. Defensively, the Texans allowed the fewest yards (277.2 per game) and second-fewest points (17.4), signaling they could potentially trouble the Patriots’ second-ranked offense (28.8 points).

Houston, the AFC’s fifth seed, is vying to reach its first conference championship game. Past Texans teams were defeated in six divisional rounds, including by the Kansas City Chiefs last season and the Tom Brady-led Patriots in 2012 and 2016.

Texans WR Nico Collins (concussion) misses another practice

Three days out from the Texans’ AFC divisional playoff game at New England, wide receiver Nico Collins was still not practicing on Thursday after sustaining a concussion in Monday’s 30-6 wild-card win at Pittsburgh.

Collins was not seen on the field by reporters during the open portion of the practice. He also missed Wednesday’s session while in concussion protocol, casting serious doubt on his status for Sunday’s game.

Collins, 26, led Houston in receiving yards (1,117) and tied for the team lead in touchdown catches (six) during the regular season. It was his third straight 1,000-yard season.

The two-time Pro Bowl selection has 289 catches for 4,347 yards and 24 TDs in 66 games over his first five seasons with the Texans, who drafted him in the third round in 2021.

Collins caught three passes for 21 yards before sustaining the concussion against the Steelers. Christian Kirk stepped up in his absence, finishing with eight catches for a season-high 144 yards and a touchdown in the win.

Houston would advance to its first AFC Championship Game in franchise history should it beat the second-seeded Patriots on Sunday in Foxborough, Mass.

Texans WR Nico Collins to sit out vs. Colts

Houston Texans star wide receiver Nico Collins is a healthy scratch for Sunday’s game against the visiting Indianapolis Colts.

The Texans (11-5) apparently are resting up ahead of the playoffs, even though they are not slotted into a specific seed. Houston can capture the AFC South title with a win over Indianapolis (8-8) and a loss by the Jacksonville Jaguars (12-4) to the visiting Tennessee Titans (3-13).

Collins has been on the injury report throughout the week due to rest. He did not have an injury designation for the game, however.

Collins, 26, has 71 receptions for 1,117 yards and six touchdowns in 15 games (all starts) this season. The fifth-year pro topped 1,000 yards in each of the previous two seasons and was a Pro Bowl selection in 2024 and 2025.

His best season came in 2023, when he caught 80 passes for 1,297 yards with eight touchdowns.

In addition to Collins, the Texans also listed the following players as inactive for Sunday’s game: running back Nick Chubb, cornerback Kamari Lassiter, wide receiver Braxton Berrios, linebacker Jamal Hill, tackle Trent Brown and quarterback Graham Mertz.

As for the Colts, quarterback Philip Rivers, cornerback Sauce Gardner, defensive tackle Eric Johnson II, tight end Will Mallory, and defensive backs Reuben Lowery III and George Odum are listed as inactive.

Texans WR Nico Collins says he was fined for tossing TD ball to kid

Houston Texans wide receiver Nico Collins scored a touchdown against the Tennessee Titans in his most recent home game and tossed the ball to a child in the stands pleading for it.

On Thursday, Collins told reporters the NFL did not approve and assessed him a fine of about $5,000.

“It’s for the kids,” Collins said. “I seen he was screaming and was thinking, ‘Here you go, big dog. Here’s the ball.’”

Collins said he was not penalized last season on the handful of occasions he threw a ball into the stands, so he wasn’t expecting a fine. But making a child’s day was “definitely worth it.”

The 25-year-old said he plans to appeal the fine, but if it isn’t overturned, he’ll pay up.

“The only thing that matters was making that kid happy,” he said. “He ain’t never going to forget that moment. So that’s all that matters to me.”

Collins followed up a 92-yard, one-touchdown performance that day against Tennessee with eight receptions for 119 yards last week at Jacksonville.

The fourth-year wideout is Houston’s leading receiver despite missing five games due to a hamstring injury. He has caught 49 passes for 832 yards and four touchdowns in just eight appearances.

Texans open 21-day practice window for WR Nico Collins

The Houston Texans designated Nico Collins to return from injured reserve on Friday, opening the wide receiver’s 21-day practice window.

Collins was placed on IR on Oct. 9, three days after he hurt his hamstring making a 67-yard touchdown reception in the first quarter of the Texans’ 23-20 victory over the Buffalo Bills.

Collins, 25, was the NFL’s leading receiver at the time of the injury. He recorded 32 catches for 567 yards and three touchdowns in five games.

Collins appears unlikely to play for the Texans (6-3) in Sunday night’s game against the visiting Detroit Lions (7-1). Houston’s next game is Nov. 18 against the host Dallas Cowboys.

Also on Friday, Houston placed guard Kenyon Green on injured reserve with a dislocated left shoulder.

Green, 23, had started all nine games this season and 23 of 24 in which he has played since being selected by the Texans with the 15th overall pick of the 2022 NFL Draft.

Texans WR Stefon Diggs (ACL) out for the season

Houston Texans wide receiver Stefon Diggs sustained a torn ACL and will miss the remainder of the season, head coach DeMeco Ryans announced Tuesday.

Diggs, who was named to the Pro Bowl in each of the last four seasons, was injured on a non-contact play during Houston’s 23-20 victory over the Indianapolis Colts on Sunday.

“It really hurts our team to hear that news,” Ryans said. “He’s been such an important part to our team. Everything that he brought, not only on the field but off the field. The energy, the leader, like the way he worked every single day. He brought a lot to our team. … It’s definitely a blow to us.”

The previously receiver-deep Texans find themselves thinner at the position following injuries to both Diggs and Nico Collins. The latter, who leads the team in receiving yards (567), remains on injured reserve with an ailing right hamstring.

Diggs, 30, has totaled a team-leading 47 catches for 496 yards to go along with three touchdowns in eight games this season. He joined the Texans in an April trade with the Buffalo Bills.

The season-ending injury will snap a couple of streaks for Diggs, who caught at least 100 passes in each of the past four seasons and eclipsed 1,000 receiving yards in each of the past six campaigns with the Bills (2020-23) and the Minnesota Vikings.

Tank Dell, Xavier Hutchinson, Robert Woods, John Metchie and Steven Sims will look to pick up the slack for the Texans (6-2), who visit the New York Jets (2-6) on Thursday night in East Rutherford, N.J.

Texans place NFL’s leading receiver Nico Collins on IR

Houston Texans wide receiver Nico Collins is out at least four games with a hamstring injury after being placed on injured reserve on Wednesday.

Collins, the NFL’s leading receiver with 567 yards in 2024, also is tied for third in the league with 32 catches through five games.

He left the Week 5 win over the Buffalo Bills immediately after hauling in a 67-yard touchdown pass from C.J. Stroud in the first quarter. Collins had 78 receiving yards in the game, his seventh consecutive regular-season game with at least 75 yards.

The Texans (4-1) will turn to Stefon Diggs and Tank Dell to fill the void starting Sunday at New England (1-4). Diggs has 31 receptions this season, his first in Houston after starring for the Bills.

Dell had four catches for 38 yards last week. He totaled 47 catches for 709 yards and seven touchdowns last season as a rookie.

The Texans signed tight end Teagan Quitoriano to the active roster and added former Pitt wide receiver Jared Wayne to the practice squad.

Texans WR Nico Collins (hamstring) day-to-day

Houston Texans wide receiver Nico Collins is considered day-to-day with the hamstring injury he suffered in Sunday’s win over the visiting Buffalo Bills.

Texans coach DeMeco Ryans said Collins will be evaluated as the week goes on. KPRC reported Sunday that the Texans (4-1) are optimistic that Collins could return for their Week 6 game at New England (1-4).

Collins injured his hamstring while making a 67-yard touchdown reception in the first quarter and was ruled out for the rest of the 23-20 victory. He had two receptions for 78 yards before exiting.

Collins, 25, has 32 catches for a league-leading 567 yards and three TDs on the season.

The Texans also lost safety Jimmie Ward (groin) and running back British Brooks (knee) during the course of the game.
