Browns sign free agent CB Nik Needham

The Cleveland Browns signed veteran free agent cornerback Nik Needham on Monday.

Terms were not disclosed by the team.

Needham, 28, has six interceptions and 25 passes defensed in 63 career games (27 starts) with the Miami Dolphins, who signed 6-foot-1 defensive back as an undrafted free agent in 2019. He also has 200 tackles and three sacks.

Needham played the 2024 season on a one-year deal worth $1.292 million.

Dolphins place OL Isaiah Wynn on IR, activate CB Nik Needham

The Miami Dolphins placed starting left guard Isaiah Wynn on injured reserve Tuesday due to a quad injury sustained early in the loss Sunday night to the Philadelphia Eagles.

In a corresponding move, the Dolphins activated cornerback Nik Needham from the physically unable to perform list.

Wynn, 27, started all seven games at left guard in his first season with the Dolphins (5-2) after playing primarily left tackle for the New England Patriots (2018-22). He has started 47 of 50 games in his career since missing the entire 2018 campaign on IR (torn Achilles tendon in preseason) after the Patriots selected him 23rd overall in the 2018 NFL Draft out of Georgia.

He will miss a minimum of four weeks on IR.

“We are getting more information, but it does look like it will be weeks, as it wasn’t a bump or a bruise,” Dolphins coach Mike McDaniel told reporters Monday. “We’ll gather more for specificity, but it doesn’t look like we’ll be seeing him for weeks.”

Needham, 26, missed most of last season and all of this season to this point with a torn Achilles sustained in October 2022. He was designated to return to practice on Oct. 4, and the Dolphins had 21 days to activate him.

He joined the Dolphins as an undrafted free agent out of UTEP in May 2019 and has played in 51 games, starting 27. He has 192 career tackles, 25 passes defended, three sacks and six interceptions, returning one for a touchdown.

Dolphins S Brandon Jones (torn ACL) out for season

Miami Dolphins starting safety Brandon Jones will miss the remainder of the season with a torn left ACL, coach Mike McDaniel announced Wednesday.

Jones, 24, sustained the knee injury during the third quarter of the Dolphins’ 16-10 win over the Pittsburgh Steelers on Sunday. The third-year player was placed on injured reserve two days later.

“In situations like this, I feel absolutely terrible for a guy that was playing at a high level,” McDaniel said Wednesday. “The good news about him in particular is when things like this happen to people like him, they tend to come out finding a way to be better — somehow, some way.”

Jones had 49 tackles, two sacks, three passes defensed and a forced fumble in seven starts this season. He has eight career sacks in 38 games (24 starts), all with the Dolphins. He was selected in the third round of the 2020 draft.

The Dolphins (4-3) already are without starter Nik Needham, who is lost for the season with an Achilles injury. Fellow cornerback Byron Jones has yet to return after undergoing surgery on his Achilles in March.

Cornerbacks Keion Crossen and Kader Kohou could return to action following one-game injury absences against the host Detroit Lions (1-5) on Sunday, McDaniel said.

Dolphins put Nik Needham, Trey Flowers on IR

Miami Dolphins starting cornerback Nik Needham is out for the rest of the season with a torn Achilles and pass rusher Trey Flowers (foot) joined him on injured reserve Wednesday.

Flowers will have to miss at least four games.

The Dolphins didn’t immediately announce corresponding moves.

Needham had 21 tackles and two passes defensed in six games (five starts) this season. He has six career interceptions in 51 games (27 starts), all with the Dolphins.

Flowers, who just signed with the Dolphins in August, had four tackles and no sacks in four games this season. The 29-year-old has 31.5 career sacks with New England (2015-18) and Detroit (2019-21).

The Dolphins listed four players who missed practice Wednesday with injuries: offensive tackle Terron Armstead (toe), cornerback Keion Crossen (knee), defensive end Emmanuel Ogbah (back) and defensive tackle Christian Wilkins (hand).

However, starting quarterback Tua Tagovailoa cleared concussion protocol last week and is in line to start Sunday night’s game against the visiting Pittsburgh Steelers (2-4). The Dolphins are 3-3.
