Cincinnati Bengals wide receiver Tee Higgins (5) talks with his teammates as the Bengals face the Philadelphia Eagles during the NFL Week 8 matchup at Paycor Stadium Sunday October 27, 2024. Higgins missed the game due to an injury.

Bengals WR Tee Higgins, OT Orlando Brown Jr. doubtful vs. Raiders

Cincinnati wide receiver Tee Higgins could miss his second straight game and four-time Pro Bowl offensive tackle Orlando Brown also is doubtful for Sunday’s home game against the Las Vegas Raiders, Bengals coach Zac Taylor said Friday.

Both Higgins (quadricep) and Brown (knee/fibula) missed three consecutive days of this week. Wideout Charlie Jones sustained a groin injury on Thursday and missed practice on Friday, with Taylor listing him as questionable against the Raiders (2-6).

Higgins injured his quad at practice last week and was inactive for the game against the Philadelphia Eagles as the Bengals fell to 3-5.

The 25-year-old has played in five games (three starts) and has 29 receptions on 45 targets for 341 yards and three touchdowns.

Cincinnati selected Higgins in the second round of the 2020 NFL Draft out of Clemson. He has 286 receptions for 4,025 yards and 27 TDs in 63 games (56 starts).

Brown, 28, has started all eight games this season, his second with the Bengals. A third-round pick by Baltimore in 2018, he has started 100 of 106 games for the Ravens (2018-20), Kansas City Chiefs (2021-22) and Bengals.

Report: Bengals LT Jonah Williams requests trade

Cincinnati Bengals left tackle Jonah Williams has requested a trade after the team agreed to terms with Orlando Brown Jr., NFL Network reported Friday.

Williams, 25, has started 47 games (including the playoffs) since the Bengals drafted him with the 11th overall pick in 2019.

He requested a trade through his agent, Ryan Tollner, according to the report.

Based on his age and experience, the 6-foot-5, 312-pound Williams would almost certainly attract suitors if Cincinnati elects to let him go. He is due $12.6 million guaranteed on his fifth-year option.

The Bengals are reportedly finalizing a four-year, $64 million deal with Brown, a four-time Pro Bowl selection who spent the past two seasons with the Kansas City Chiefs.

Brown, 26, has started 75 of his 81 career games with the Baltimore Ravens (2018-20) and Chiefs.

Reports: Chiefs LT Orlando Brown to report, sign franchise tender

Chiefs left tackle Orlando Brown plans to be back on the field with his teammates this week, ESPN reported.

That means the Kansas City offensive line anchor will report to training camp and sign his franchise tender, guaranteeing his one-year salary of $16.662 million for the 2022 season.

Brown, 26, started 16 games for the Chiefs last season and was voted to his third straight Pro Bowl.

Both sides worked feverishly into July but missed the mid-month deadline to work out a long-term deal. According to multiple reports, the Chiefs put a contract worth $139 million on the table that included guarantees totaling $55 million and a $30.25 million signing bonus. But Brown, per ESPN, rejected that offer because no guaranteed money went beyond the second year of the deal.

Acquired before the 2021 NFL Draft from the Baltimore Ravens, Brown was drafted as a right tackle but jumped to the left side when Ronnie Stanley (ankle) suffered an injury. With Stanley due back and Brown established on the left side, he requested a trade that would allow him to stay on the blindside.

The Chiefs jumped at the chance, coming off of a Super Bowl blocking debacle in which the Tampa Bay Buccaneers annihilated Patrick Mahomes behind a largely second-string offensive line. Primary left tackle Eric Fisher missed the Super Bowl with a torn Achilles and didn’t re-sign.

Brown is eligible for unrestricted free agency but can be kept on the franchise tag again in March 2023, guaranteeing him a one-year salary equal to the average of the top-five base salaries at the position.

Franchise tag roundup: Chiefs OT Brown among 3 tagged Monday

Kansas City Chiefs left tackle Orlando Brown was the first of three NFL players to receive the franchise tag on Monday.

Brown would make approximately $16.5 million on the franchise tag in 2022 if the two sides are unable to work out a long-term deal.

Acquired from the Baltimore Ravens for a first-round pick in the 2021 draft, Brown stabilized the left side of the Kansas City offensive line in a focused overhaul of the Chiefs’ front wall last offseason.

A third-round pick of the Ravens who began his career at right tackle, Brown is a three-time Pro Bowl selection who hiked his value by moving to the left side for the Ravens when Ronnie Stanley (ankle) was lost for the 2020 season.

Tagging Brown shifts the attention of general manager Brett Veach to safety Tyrann Mathieu, who is scheduled to become an unrestricted free agent next week. Mathieu turns 30 in May and said he would love to be back in Kansas City. But he’s also expected to draw significant interest in free agency.

The deadline for teams to designate franchise tag players is Tuesday at 4 p.m. ET.

–The AFC champion Cincinnati Bengals used the franchise tag on starting safety Jessie Bates III.

Bates and the Bengals have not reached a long-term contract extension after negotiating the past two offseasons. By placing the tag on Bates Monday, Cincinnati has until July 15 to sign him to a new long-term deal. Otherwise, the 25-year-old safety will play 2022 under the tag, expected to be roughly $13 million.

Bates has started all but two games for the Bengals since entering the league as a 2018 second-round draft pick. A second-team All-Pro in 2020, Bates has compiled 408 tackles, 35 pass breakups, 10 interceptions, two forced fumbles and two fumble recoveries over four seasons.

Bates added two interceptions in the 2021 playoffs, including one on Matthew Stafford during Super Bowl LVI, along with six pass breakups.

–The Cleveland Browns placed the franchise tag on tight end David Njoku.

Njoku, 25, will earn around $10.9 million in 2022 unless the two sides are able to reach a long-term deal.

Njoku caught 36 passes for 475 yards with a team-high four receiving touchdowns in 16 games (11 starts) last season. He has 15 career TDs in 65 games (36 starts) for the Browns since being taken No. 29 overall in the 2017 draft.

The Browns have a decision to make on fellow TE Austin Hooper, who carries a $13.2 million cap hit in 2022.

Chiefs LT Orlando Brown injures calf before game

Kansas City Chiefs left tackle Orlando Brown sustained a calf injury while warming up for Sunday’s game in Cincinnati.

The team announced that Brown was questionable to play against the Bengals.

Right tackle Lucas Niang started in Brown’s place on the left side but was carted off the field in the first quarter. He was ruled out with a knee injury.

The Chiefs then shifted the versatile Joe Thuney from left guard to left tackle.

Brown, 25, had started the first 15 games in his first season with the Chiefs.

Niang, 23, has played in 12 games (nine starts) this season.

Reports: Chiefs acquire Pro Bowl LT Orlando Brown from Ravens

The Kansas City Chiefs took a significant step forward in protecting star quarterback Patrick Mahomes’ blindside by acquiring Pro Bowl left tackle Orlando Brown from the Baltimore Ravens, multiple media outlets reported Friday.

Per reports, the Chiefs traded their 2021 picks in the first round (No. 31 overall), third round (94) and fourth round (136) as well as a 2022 fifth-round selection in exchange for Brown and a 2021 second-round pick (No. 58) and a 2022 sixth-round selection.

Brown, 24, will fill a major void along the offensive line for the Chiefs, who parted ways with offensive tackles Mitchell Schwartz and Eric Fisher in the offseason.

Brown reportedly requested a trade from Baltimore this offseason after expressing his desire to remain as a left tackle.

In late January, Brown tweeted, “I’m a LEFT Tackle.”

Brown has started 42 games at both left and right tackle and has yet to miss a game since being selected out of Oklahoma by the Ravens in the third round of the 2018 NFL Draft.

He filled in for Ronnie Stanley at left tackle after the latter sustained a season-ending ankle injury in Week 8 in 2020. Brown had been the team’s right tackle since coming into the NFL.

Brown was a Pro Bowl selection in 2019 and 2020.
