Bucs sign RB Patrick Laird

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers signed running back Patrick Laird on Monday.

Laird, 26, takes the roster spot of RB/returner Kenjon Barner, who was placed on injured reserve Monday. His 2022 season is over.

Laird participated in the Bucs’ practice on Monday.

Running back Giovani Bernard also went down with an ankle injury during Saturday’s preseason game. Bernard did not practice Monday.

Laird spent the past three seasons with the Miami Dolphins, rushing for 244 yards and a touchdown in 37 career games (four starts). He also caught 36 passes for 289 yards.

Barner, 33, appeared in nine games for the Bucs the past two seasons. He returned punts and kicks in 2020 and only appeared as a punt returner in 2021.

Dolphins activate RB Gaskin (knee) off injured reserve

The Miami Dolphins activated leading rusher Myles Gaskin off injured reserve, the team announced Saturday.

The return of Gaskin is a timely one, considering the Dolphins (7-4) are particularly thin at the position heading into Sunday’s game against the visiting Cincinnati Bengals (2-8-1).

Gaskin, 23, leads the team in carries (100) and rushing yards (387) and shares top honors with two rushing touchdowns while playing in seven games (five starts) this season. He also has 30 receptions for 198 yards.

The second-year running back has been sidelined since sustaining a sprained knee in Miami’s 28-17 win over the Los Angeles Rams on Nov. 1.

Patrick Laird, 25, is the lone remaining healthy running back on the roster heading into Sunday’s game. Laird has rushed four times for 27 yards this season.

Also on Saturday, the Dolphins elevated safety Nate Holley from the practice squad to the active roster.
